:00:52. > :00:55.First, it is Children in Need on Friday, and many of you will be

:00:55. > :00:58.getting ready to help raise money for the big event. But today

:00:58. > :01:08.charities have revealed there has been a huge fall in donations

:01:08. > :01:08.

:01:08. > :01:13.across the UK in the last year. The UK has been suffering from big-

:01:13. > :01:16.money problems, so people have less cash to give. Charities say it is

:01:16. > :01:26.worrying and are launching a campaign to encourage people to

:01:26. > :01:30.

:01:30. > :01:33.Last year Children in Need raised more than 26 million on the night,

:01:33. > :01:39.but since June 2011 and the charities in the UK have not been

:01:39. > :01:44.doing so well. According to a new report, donations have fallen by

:01:44. > :01:48.20%, a loss of around 1.7 billion. It is the smaller charities that

:01:48. > :01:53.have been hit the hardest, and they rely on the money to do important

:01:53. > :01:57.work. I have come to a charity in Manchester, a mentoring charity

:01:58. > :02:02.with hundreds of volunteers, looking after underprivileged kids.

:02:02. > :02:06.At the moment we have 500 mentors every week going out to schools in

:02:07. > :02:11.disadvantaged areas. We will have to have fewer mentors because it is

:02:11. > :02:18.very expensive. Driving then there is a logistical nightmare and it is

:02:18. > :02:22.expensive, but we have to do it. The study found that not only are

:02:22. > :02:26.fewer people giving money but the amount they get a smaller, too. On

:02:26. > :02:31.average, people are donating 1 less per month compared to the

:02:31. > :02:37.before. It all adds up. The group behind the report has launched a

:02:37. > :02:40.campaign to help charities survive the tough times. They want to

:02:40. > :02:45.encourage the public, businesses and the government to give more to

:02:45. > :02:49.places like this charity. Do you think these new campaigns to

:02:49. > :02:54.support two more will make a difference to your charity?

:02:54. > :02:58.Undoubtedly, because it is like the Olympics, it creates well beyond

:02:58. > :03:03.what it was intended to create. It makes people aware they can do

:03:03. > :03:06.something. It might be small, but if millions of people do that, at

:03:07. > :03:10.the impact is bigger. A lot of people are having money problems,

:03:10. > :03:15.and it is the smaller charities that are feeling the pinch. They

:03:15. > :03:17.hope that things will start to improve.

:03:17. > :03:24.And while we're talking about raising money, anyone out there in

:03:25. > :03:27.their PJs already? I wish I was! Our Joe had a bit of a shock over

:03:27. > :03:37.on the CBBC Channel this morning. Halfway through a live Newsround

:03:37. > :03:42.

:03:42. > :03:47.Sorry to interrupt! You know that this is live? We are bringing you

:03:47. > :03:51.the news. Why are you wearing pyjamas? We are here to tell you

:03:51. > :03:56.about our appeal, we are asking everybody to get into their pyjamas

:03:56. > :04:00.and do things for Children in Need, organised a sponsored walk, a

:04:00. > :04:05.sponsored silence. We have got the ball was riding in their pyjamas.

:04:05. > :04:12.We have seen where the money goes and how it helps. We thought we

:04:12. > :04:22.would bring this along for you. What is this about a world record?

:04:22. > :04:26.Yes, we did a world record attempt, 300 children in a line, that was

:04:26. > :04:33.his own! So we can help by wearing pyjamas?

:04:33. > :04:36.That is quite fetching! If you want to get involved, go to the Blue

:04:36. > :04:40.Peter and Children in Need websites for sponsorship forms and tell them

:04:40. > :04:42.how you're going to go Pajama crazy. Next, it was supposed to be top-

:04:42. > :04:45.secret information, but a Royal Navy submariner has admitted

:04:45. > :04:51.collecting highly confidential codewords and passwords that, if he

:04:51. > :04:54.had passed them on, could have been useful to an enemy of the UK. Petty

:04:54. > :04:57.Officer Edward Devenney breached the Official Secrets Act, which is

:04:57. > :05:07.part of the law that protects top- secret security of the country. He

:05:07. > :05:08.

:05:08. > :05:12.Next up, it sounds like the plot of an adventure movie. It has come out

:05:12. > :05:15.that a thief has managed to break in and steal a set of keys to the

:05:15. > :05:20.Tower of London. The burglary happened early in the morning with

:05:20. > :05:27.the thief stealing keys to the tower restaurant and a drawbridge.

:05:27. > :05:31.But he was stopped before he got close to the inside of the palace.

:05:31. > :05:40.This place is supposed to be so safe that the Queen keeps the crown

:05:40. > :05:44.jewels there, but bosses say the locks have now been changed.

:05:44. > :05:49.Millions of people around the world are preparing for the Bali, the

:05:49. > :05:56.festival of light. It lasts for five days, and you can expects lots

:05:56. > :05:59.of lights, fireworks and plenty of sweets. It is a time to spring-

:05:59. > :06:07.clean your home, where new clothes and decorate buildings with fancy

:06:07. > :06:11.lights. Everyone loves it. I never knew it was this big, how many

:06:11. > :06:16.events. We heard about it back in the States, but we never dreamed it

:06:16. > :06:26.would be this big and beautiful. You guys have been on to the

:07:19. > :07:22.Now to a very lucky little fella. This koala bear has been rescued

:07:22. > :07:25.from a major bushfire in South Australia. About 100 firefighters

:07:25. > :07:30.have been battling the blaze which has destroyed some homes and land.

:07:30. > :07:33.It is not clear how it started. The injured koala was found in a burnt

:07:33. > :07:43.tree by a local resident, who gave it some water before it was taken

:07:43. > :07:56.
