:00:00. > :00:10.Hi, I'm Ricky with your evening Newsround.

:00:11. > :00:14.First, if you've ever wondered what life was like as a soldier during

:00:15. > :00:17.World War I, from today you can read it in their own words. Thousands of

:00:18. > :00:20.pages of soldiers' diaries describing life in the trenches are

:00:21. > :00:31.being made available online. Ayshah has got this one.

:00:32. > :00:35.We are sitting outside our headquarters. All should be nice and

:00:36. > :00:46.peaceful except it is beyond description. Trenches, ammunition,

:00:47. > :00:51.weapons everywhere. The Germans got their artillery into position and a

:00:52. > :00:58.considerable amount of shelling was experienced. Our casualties were

:00:59. > :01:04.slight. One captain in World War I served with the first Battalion

:01:05. > :01:08.South Wales has had his diary published online along with

:01:09. > :01:17.thousands of others during the first great War. They hope to have one and

:01:18. > :01:22.a half million pages in the next few years and the Imperial War Museum is

:01:23. > :01:26.doing something similar. It's important that these diaries are

:01:27. > :01:30.doing online because it allows us to access them anywhere. We can find

:01:31. > :01:35.out what life was like during the First World War. This year marks 100

:01:36. > :01:40.years since the start of the war and this is just one of the many ways we

:01:41. > :01:49.are remembering the great sacrifices people made their country.

:01:50. > :01:51.Remember, some of the diaries contain some pretty upsetting

:01:52. > :01:54.reflections. Next, severe heat is causing

:01:55. > :01:58.problems for tennis players and fans at the Australian Open. One player

:01:59. > :02:01.had fainted, another was sick as temperatures soared up to 42 degrees

:02:02. > :02:04.Celsius. There have been reports of plastic water bottles melting on the

:02:05. > :02:08.courts, and some fans have even burnt their backs on the seats. But

:02:09. > :02:11.the heat didn't stop Andy Murray from easing through to the next

:02:12. > :02:19.round. He beat Japan's Go Soeda. After the match, he spoke about the

:02:20. > :02:25.hot weather. You don't want something bad to happen to one of

:02:26. > :02:28.the players. That is the thing, if something bad happened to one of the

:02:29. > :02:37.players they would change the rules. People fainting, it is a

:02:38. > :02:40.really tough challenge in the conditions.

:02:41. > :02:43.OK, that's all we have time for tonight, but there's plenty of good

:02:44. > :02:46.stuff over on the website. There's an amazing gallery of a ghost town

:02:47. > :02:50.holiday resort in Cyprus abandoned 40 years ago by everyone who lived

:02:51. > :02:53.there and a video report about how robot helicopters could be used in

:02:54. > :02:55.Africa to protect endangered rhinos. That's all from me. Newsround is

:02:56. > :02:58.back tomorrow morning.
