:00:24. > :00:32.Coming up, I've been meeting kids badly affected by the extreme
:00:33. > :00:40.weather. The water was so high. It was up to hear on me. And away from
:00:41. > :00:51.the floods, could Team GB be about to win the gold medal at the Winter
:00:52. > :00:55.Olympics? This is a Newsround. Welcome to a very special Newsround.
:00:56. > :00:59.We are live at the flood hit Thames Valley, just one part of the UK that
:01:00. > :01:03.has been hit by some of the most extraordinary wet and wild weather
:01:04. > :01:13.the UK has seen for many, many years. Once again, heavy storms are
:01:14. > :01:16.pounding across the UK. What a start to 2014. Parts of the Somerset
:01:17. > :01:20.Levels have been under water for weeks. Places like Cumbria, North
:01:21. > :01:26.West Wales and Worcester have been badly hit by strong wind and rain.
:01:27. > :01:30.There are still 17 severe flood warnings in parts of
:01:31. > :01:35.Gloucestershire, Somerset and here in Berkshire, meaning a serious risk
:01:36. > :01:39.to people's safety. Here in Datchet, the water has actually
:01:40. > :01:42.receded but there are still sandbags everywhere. So what is it like to
:01:43. > :01:51.live in the middle of a flood hit area?
:01:52. > :01:57.Outside my house it is just water. What has a family been doing?
:01:58. > :02:02.Boiling water to drink. You are not allowed to use the taps, the toilet,
:02:03. > :02:06.the shower, the bathroom. We can't get down the road because the water
:02:07. > :02:15.is so high. It comes up to hear on me. All of the stuff downstairs, the
:02:16. > :02:20.TV, the tables, chairs, they are upstairs in the play room. What does
:02:21. > :02:26.your back garden look like? There is flooding whether climbing frame is.
:02:27. > :02:29.What does your road look like? It has brown water and all of the bins
:02:30. > :02:39.have been knocked over so all of the rubbish is floating down our road.
:02:40. > :02:45.And my brother's nappies. They are floating down the road as well. That
:02:46. > :02:48.is absolutely horrible. What are some of the good things you have
:02:49. > :02:53.seen your neighbours or your friends doing, or things you have heard
:02:54. > :02:59.about? Well, our neighbour next door has been really nice, going round
:03:00. > :03:04.all the houses knocking on the doors and saying, do you need any milk or
:03:05. > :03:09.bread? We have loads of old people around so he is helping them. Well,
:03:10. > :03:14.there were even some royal guests helping out here in Berkshire.
:03:15. > :03:18.Princes William and Harry were in Datchet this morning, dressed in
:03:19. > :03:23.waterproofs and wellies, helping soldiers unload sandbags. Over the
:03:24. > :03:28.past week or so we have heard from lots of you who have been struggling
:03:29. > :03:33.among the floods. Gemma and Emily told us how they have been going to
:03:34. > :03:37.school by boat. Charlotte's house is surrounded by water and she is doing
:03:38. > :03:43.what she can to stop her house being flooded. And Ellie and her mates
:03:44. > :03:50.sent this video message to show how they are being affected. This is our
:03:51. > :03:58.story of the floods. This is my usual route to school but it no
:03:59. > :04:02.longer exists. This car park is now a summing pool. Usually we would
:04:03. > :04:11.spend all our free time in the park, but there is no chance of that any
:04:12. > :04:15.time soon. Thanks, guys. We still want to hear your flood stories.
:04:16. > :04:18.It's easy to get in touch on the website where our dedicated team
:04:19. > :04:24.have got the floods well and truly covered. There is loads of info.
:04:25. > :04:27.Find out how to stay safe in the flood water and catch the report on
:04:28. > :04:31.a primary school that has been turned into an emergency centre.
:04:32. > :04:36.That is all from me at the moment. Jenny is in the studio with the
:04:37. > :04:39.other news. Great Britain could have its first
:04:40. > :04:44.Winter Olympics champion at Sochi in the next couple of hours. They are
:04:45. > :04:48.top of the pack at the halfway point of the skeleton event. In the past
:04:49. > :04:52.half-hour, she set a new track record. A volcano has forced
:04:53. > :04:56.thousands of people in Indonesia in south-east Asia to leave their
:04:57. > :05:01.homes. It erupted, chucking out ash, which has covered towns and
:05:02. > :05:05.villages. Welcome back to Datchet. Ellie,
:05:06. > :05:11.Chloe, Jake and Max are here with me. Thanks for the great video you
:05:12. > :05:16.sent. How has the week been? It has been very tough as we had to
:05:17. > :05:21.evacuate our house, as our house is almost in the flood, if you injure
:05:22. > :05:25.is away from actually getting into the house. The water seems to have
:05:26. > :05:31.been going down. How are you feeling about it now? We are quite relieved
:05:32. > :05:37.that it is not going to come into the house, we hope. After last time
:05:38. > :05:42.it did suddenly come back up. Thank you very much for joining us. That
:05:43. > :05:44.is all from Newsround. Don't forget, there is loads of great stuff on the
:05:45. > :05:46.website.
