:00:00. > :00:09.Hello. Welcome to Newsround. I'm Leah with some of this on the way:
:00:10. > :00:12.Plans for flat demolitions dropped from the Glasgow Games. And, did
:00:13. > :00:21.Prince William bowl out Kate? Keep watching.
:00:22. > :00:24.First to Ukraine, where the latest developments have made an already
:00:25. > :00:25.difficult problem even worse. Over the weekend, pro-Russian
:00:26. > :00:30.demonstrators took over government buildings in the east of the
:00:31. > :00:34.country. But how did we get to this point?
:00:35. > :00:38.Back in November many people occupied the centre of the capital
:00:39. > :00:42.of Ukraine, Kiev. They were unhappy with moves to make the country
:00:43. > :00:46.closer to Russia than to Europe. Protests broke out and more than 100
:00:47. > :00:49.people lost their lives and many more were injured. In February,
:00:50. > :00:54.Ukraine's President, Viktor Yanukovych, who was supported by
:00:55. > :00:57.Russia, left the country. In March, Russia took over an area of Ukraine
:00:58. > :01:01.known as Crimea - a place where many Russians live. Now people are
:01:02. > :01:12.worried the same thing might be happening in Eastern Ukraine. Here's
:01:13. > :01:17.Ricky with the latest. Pro-Russian protesters raiding a
:01:18. > :01:23.police station in eastern Ukraine. These demonstrators try to get into
:01:24. > :01:26.Kharkiv City Hall. In other areas, armed groups have already seized
:01:27. > :01:32.Government buildings. Is Russia behind this? Countries like America
:01:33. > :01:35.think so. They think Russian troops are secretly in charge and are
:01:36. > :01:39.leading the protests to stir up trouble and make Ukraine more weak.
:01:40. > :01:44.But what would Russia gain from doing this? There's a mix of people
:01:45. > :01:48.here. Some people speaking in Ukrainian, other people speaking in
:01:49. > :01:51.Russian. Some of them say they want to be Ukrainian. They cheer for the
:01:52. > :01:55.Ukrainian football team when it plays. Other people say that they
:01:56. > :01:59.like Russia, they have family across the border and they want to be
:02:00. > :02:02.protected by their neighbour. Russia says they have nothing to do with
:02:03. > :02:07.the takeover but some people don't believe them. Here's the problem. No
:02:08. > :02:12.one can go up to those troops and look at their name tags because they
:02:13. > :02:15.haven't got any. They haven't got any badges which identify
:02:16. > :02:18.themselves. A lot of people think that the only possible organisation
:02:19. > :02:21.which could do it is the Russian organisation. Today, the British
:02:22. > :02:25.Prime Minister, David Cameron, along with other world leaders called for
:02:26. > :02:30.calm in the region. But there's no sign of that happening and the
:02:31. > :02:34.situation remains extremely tense. You can find out more about what's
:02:35. > :02:41.happening in Ukraine with our guide over on the Newsround website.
:02:42. > :02:44.Now to Glasgow where a plan to demolish five empty tower blocks
:02:45. > :02:46.during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games have been
:02:47. > :02:50.dropped. It's an idea that left thousands of people furious but many
:02:51. > :02:57.are calling this a victory for people power as Martin reports.
:02:58. > :03:02.Two years ago, the first of the Red Road tower blocks were demolished.
:03:03. > :03:07.Now six remain and they're all empty except for one. They have been an
:03:08. > :03:11.iconic part of Glasgow's skyline for the past 50 years but they've had
:03:12. > :03:15.their day. There had been plans to demolish five of them live during
:03:16. > :03:19.the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. Organisers wanted to show
:03:20. > :03:22.how much Glasgow is changing but last night they announced they had
:03:23. > :03:27.changed their minds because of safety reasons. The plans had
:03:28. > :03:31.divided people from the beginning. An online petition calling to stop
:03:32. > :03:34.the plans got more than 17,000 signatures, claiming it was
:03:35. > :03:39.disrespectful to people living in the area. The five towers are still
:03:40. > :03:47.being brought down but at another time.
:03:48. > :03:51.The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have paid their respects to the 185
:03:52. > :03:53.people who lost their lives during two devastating earthquakes in
:03:54. > :03:56.Christchurch three years ago. In the latest stage of their tour of New
:03:57. > :03:59.Zealand Prince William praised how well the people there had recovered
:04:00. > :04:03.since the disaster. William and Kate also had time for a
:04:04. > :04:06.quick game of cricket. The Duchess, playing in high heels, wasn't too
:04:07. > :04:14.impressed when her husband made this wild bowl.
:04:15. > :04:23.We are The Vamps and you are watching Newsround. The Vamps -
:04:24. > :04:26.they're being tipped as the new One Direction and yesterday entered the
:04:27. > :04:30.charts at number two with their new single Last Night. We caught up with
:04:31. > :04:34.them at one of their recent gigs and put your questions to the boys. If
:04:35. > :04:38.you head over to the website you can hear what they had to say plus see
:04:39. > :04:41.them messing around with our Newsround microphone. Whilst your
:04:42. > :04:44.there head to the CBBC pages - because tomorrow from 12:30pm Martin
:04:45. > :04:48.and I will be answering your questions for a live online chat. So
:04:49. > :04:51.get those questions in. Finally, don't miss Newsround at 6.50pm,
:04:52. > :04:55.especially if you're in the Scouts, Beavers or Cubs because we'll be
:04:56. > :05:00.telling you about the new badges you'll be able to earn and we'll
:05:01. > :05:01.reveal the ones you've been telling us you'd like to see. See you then.
