:00:12. > :00:14.Hi everyone, I'm Ricky and this is Newsround.

:00:15. > :00:17.First, to a very serious fire that broke out in a tower block

:00:18. > :00:26.It happened at the Grenfell Tower in North Kensington in West London.

:00:27. > :00:38.I'm actually in a community centre where there is loads of activity

:00:39. > :00:41.going on behind me. I will tell you about that in a little bit.

:00:42. > :00:50.Engineers are currently checking the building but here is what we now

:00:51. > :00:55.happened. The fire started just before 1.00am in the morning.

:00:56. > :01:00.Emergency services arrived at the scene within six minutes, with 40

:01:01. > :01:04.fire engines and is 200 firefighters coming to help get people out safely

:01:05. > :01:08.and get the fire under control. The London Fire Brigade said they were

:01:09. > :01:12.able to rescue lots of people but sadly some have died and more than

:01:13. > :01:17.70 people have been taken to hospital. We are still working very

:01:18. > :01:21.hard. We rescued large numbers of people from inside the building very

:01:22. > :01:24.early on across a range of different floors. We have fire crews

:01:25. > :01:26.continuing to work very hard in there at the moment and we are

:01:27. > :01:31.making steady progress going through the whole building. When fires

:01:32. > :01:35.started flats like these, they don't usually spread between floors.

:01:36. > :01:39.Police are investigating how this fire happened to make sure that it

:01:40. > :01:43.doesn't happen again. People living nearby flats have been doing what

:01:44. > :01:47.they can to help. Emergency centres have opened for those who cannot go

:01:48. > :01:50.home, with people bringing food, drink, clothes and toiletries, and

:01:51. > :01:55.donating money for those who have lost everything. Supplies have also

:01:56. > :01:59.been donated to police and fire crews who worked through the night.

:02:00. > :02:02.The member of Parliament for Kensington said that every single

:02:03. > :02:08.person affected will be looked after. As soon as I came to this

:02:09. > :02:11.community centre, they were actually turning people away. There were too

:02:12. > :02:18.many donations. A lot of people with loads of bags, food and blankets. If

:02:19. > :02:22.you can see, there are shoes on the ground, and there are people around.

:02:23. > :02:27.There are loads of people with boxes and they are all trying to help

:02:28. > :02:33.their community. One age old I spoke to, she lives around the corner, and

:02:34. > :02:41.she told me how she was helping. I have got some fruit and food, and I

:02:42. > :02:50.went to the church and I started giving out some free food, for the

:02:51. > :02:55.homeless people. That was Lina and she was telling me that she brought

:02:56. > :02:57.her old hijabs to give to Muslim girls who might have been in that

:02:58. > :03:02.building so they had something to cover their heads. That is what she

:03:03. > :03:06.was doing to help. One more bit of information to give you, the chief

:03:07. > :03:09.fire officer said that this is unprecedented, which means that

:03:10. > :03:13.nothing like this has happened before. Investigations are ongoing

:03:14. > :03:17.at the moment and the homeless are being looked after. So those in that

:03:18. > :03:21.building, they are being looked after at the moment. Remember, if

:03:22. > :03:26.anything on this story upsets you or anything else in the news, you can

:03:27. > :03:28.go to newsround online. But for me in London, that is all.

:03:29. > :03:31.Other news now and the singer, Ariana Grande is to become

:03:32. > :03:34.She's to get a Manchester citizenship even though

:03:35. > :03:42.It's the city's way of saying thank you for Ariana's amazing work

:03:43. > :03:45.organising the One Love concert in Manchester, in aid of victims

:03:46. > :03:49.And victims of the Manchester and London attacks were remembered

:03:50. > :03:55.French players and fans showed solidarity with England,

:03:56. > :03:59.by joining in with the UK national anthem, followed by a minute's

:04:00. > :04:03.silence at a friendly football match.

:04:04. > :04:06.Pelicans are rejoicing - to be set free - as they've been

:04:07. > :04:09.helped back to health in California, America.

:04:10. > :04:14.Hundreds of pelicans have been seriously poorly due

:04:15. > :04:16.to a poisonous algae that has been growing far too rapidly

:04:17. > :04:21.While small amounts of this algae are fine,

:04:22. > :04:26.the pelicans have big appetites and too much of the green

:04:27. > :04:28.stuff makes them so ill they can't swim or fly.

:04:29. > :04:31.So wildlife reserves like this one are nursing them back to health

:04:32. > :04:36.and then setting them free when their tummies are better.

:04:37. > :04:42.It's the best part of my job, releasing pelicans. You see them in

:04:43. > :04:45.the pool, and they look like they are doing OK but once you bring them

:04:46. > :04:49.out here you see how happy they are to be out and back in the wilds, and

:04:50. > :04:50.the best thing is when they jump out of the crate so fast that they kick

:04:51. > :04:52.sand in your face. Newsround's back with more top

:04:53. > :05:00.stories from 7.40 tomorrow morning. And if anything has upset you this

:05:01. > :05:03.afternoon, there is plenty of advice online.

:05:04. > :05:06.Yo, whassup? Do you watch CBBC shows on your phone or tablet?

:05:07. > :05:13.Well, you've got to do something really important, yeah?

:05:14. > :05:17.to be able to watch shows on your iPlayer app,
