:00:07. > :00:10.It's Tuesday 15th January. You're with Newsround with me Ricky, live
:00:10. > :00:15.on CBBC. On the way this afternoon: Big problems for HMV - we ask why
:00:15. > :00:24.shops on the high street are having such a hard time. And the college
:00:24. > :00:28.teaching students how to win The X Factor.
:00:28. > :00:33.The CD and DVD chain HMV is in big trouble as it struggles to keep up
:00:33. > :00:37.with online shops. They've had to stop accepting vouchers - so if you
:00:37. > :00:40.have one at the moment you won't currently be able to spend it. The
:00:40. > :00:43.shop has had to call in another company to try and help keep its
:00:43. > :00:49.stores open. It's the latest high street store to be affected by the
:00:49. > :00:52.country's money troubles. Last year in the UK, 54 big-name companies
:00:52. > :01:00.had to close some or all of their stores - nearly 4,000 in total -
:01:00. > :01:03.and that left nearly 48,000 people without jobs. Hayley's been looking
:01:03. > :01:07.into this story and you have been on the high street, what did you
:01:07. > :01:10.see? I was out on Manchester high street. This is a city centre high
:01:10. > :01:14.street, second biggest city in the country and there I was, to the
:01:14. > :01:18.right an empty shop and Jessops, the camera shop which has closed
:01:18. > :01:21.all its stores and to the left HMV, which some of the stores could be
:01:22. > :01:24.closing. We were in the middle of the city centre and it's a
:01:24. > :01:28.different high street than what was there a few years ago. You were
:01:28. > :01:32.speaking to a business expert. What do they think think tkpwog happen
:01:32. > :01:35.about HMV? The BBC business reporter told me there's two
:01:35. > :01:38.reasons for this. People are shopping more online, they can look
:01:38. > :01:44.for better deals and also get things cheaper and they're in the
:01:44. > :01:48.comfort of their own sofa. The country's money problems is the
:01:48. > :01:51.other thing, people are not going out on the street. The future of
:01:51. > :01:55.the high street could look different in a few years, he said.
:01:55. > :01:59.We could see more empty shops but we could see more shops where you
:01:59. > :02:02.have to go and integrate in them, like coffee shops, book shops,
:02:02. > :02:09.places where you have to go to. can't order coffee on the internet,
:02:09. > :02:13.can you or can you?! Well, not fresh! Manchester is not the second
:02:13. > :02:23.biggest, is it? In my eyes. loves it. We have had loads of
:02:23. > :02:57.
:02:57. > :03:00.A court has ruled it was wrong for British Airways to stop one of its.
:03:00. > :03:04.Today, the court agreed with her. BA have changed their policy.
:03:04. > :03:08.Today's ruling confirms that by law Christians and people of other
:03:08. > :03:11.faiths in this country should be allowed to wear religious symbols
:03:11. > :03:21.and clothes at work unless companies decide there are very
:03:21. > :03:25.
:03:25. > :03:28.good reasons not to. We will have a full report on that at 6.50pm here.
:03:28. > :03:32.The wintry weather is continuing and there've been warnings about
:03:32. > :03:34.ice and snow across the UK. Lots of schools in the East of England are
:03:34. > :03:37.closed today, too. It has been snowing across large parts of
:03:37. > :03:40.England and Scotland today causing problems on the roads and delaying
:03:40. > :03:43.some trains. The cold snap is not going away any time soon,
:03:44. > :03:49.forecasters say it will stay until the end of the week. You have been
:03:49. > :03:52.sending us your snowy snaps, keep them coming in.
:03:52. > :03:54.The former Southampton, Celtic, and Middlesbrough boss, Gordon Strachan,
:03:54. > :03:57.is the new Scotland football manager. He is replacing Craig
:03:57. > :04:03.Levein who was sacked in November. His contract will cover the current
:04:04. > :04:09.World Cup qualifying campaign as well as the Euro 2016 qualifiers.
:04:09. > :04:13.This is the first time the challenge is on behalf of a nation.
:04:13. > :04:20.Also, the rewards to that are that if you can be successful you make a
:04:20. > :04:27.nation happy. And make a nation proud. So, that is the factor for
:04:27. > :04:30.me, to be able to do that I have to try and do that.
:04:30. > :04:33.In cricket - England couldn't make it 2-0 against India in the One-Day
:04:33. > :04:36.International series. Alastair Cook's men lost the toss and had to
:04:36. > :04:46.chase 286 to win - and they really struggled. Eventually they fell
:04:46. > :04:46.
:04:46. > :04:49.well short of their target, only reaching 158 all out.
:04:49. > :04:52.Finally, a college in England is offering students lessons in how to
:04:52. > :04:55.impress judges on The X Factor. The 17-week course, which costs 95,
:04:55. > :04:58.will end just in time for the auditions stage later this year.
