:00:30. > :00:33.It's been a very exciting day for British astronaut Tim Peake
:00:34. > :00:36.who has taking part in his first spacewalk.
:00:37. > :00:44.Tim is working on the outside of the International Space Station
:00:45. > :00:50.carrying out important repairs as it orbits around earth.
:00:51. > :00:53.This is the moment Tim Peake stepped out of the International Space
:00:54. > :00:59.Station and into the vastness of space.
:01:00. > :01:01.He stopped for a few moments, hanging beneath the airlock,
:01:02. > :01:14.Earth below and the infinite black of space above.
:01:15. > :01:16.You can spot Tim from the Union flag on his shoulder.
:01:17. > :01:18.It's really cool seeing that Union Jack go outside.
:01:19. > :01:24.He's now about three hours into his spacewalk and isn't
:01:25. > :01:26.scheduled to finish until after 7 o'clock tonight.
:01:27. > :01:35.It's an epic achievement for any astronaut.
:01:36. > :01:44.It is fantastic because it is not guaranteed that astronauts will do
:01:45. > :01:48.spacewalks. They are dangerous and technical so they only get done if
:01:49. > :01:51.they need to be done so it is lucky he had an opportunity to do this.
:01:52. > :01:54.Last night he had to be in bed by 8pm so he could get plenty
:01:55. > :01:58.This morning he would have enjoyed a good breakfast and then
:01:59. > :02:02.Tim, and fellow astronaut Tim Kopra, were helped into their spacesuits
:02:03. > :02:07.The suits are big, bulky and very tricky to work in,
:02:08. > :02:15.with every movement taking a lot of effort.
:02:16. > :02:23.When you do these jobs, and using your hands, it is like squeezing a
:02:24. > :02:26.tennis ball for six and a half hours. It is quite exhausting.
:02:27. > :02:31.for this moment and now those skills are being put to the test.
:02:32. > :02:40.I think it will be the most exhilarating feeling imaginable. You
:02:41. > :02:47.are there at the edge of what we are capable of, it is extremely mentally
:02:48. > :02:49.and physically demanding but it is what I have trained for and what I
:02:50. > :02:51.am looking forward to doing. into his mission, Tim now joins
