0:00:02 > 0:00:05It's coming up to 4:20 this Wednesday.
0:00:05 > 0:00:07Ayshah here to bring you all the latest.
0:00:07 > 0:00:08On the show:
0:00:08 > 0:00:13How you can help stop the problem of puppy smuggling?
0:00:13 > 0:00:20And the policeman frying an egg on his car!
0:00:26 > 0:00:28First, some huge news for fans of His Dark Materials
0:00:28 > 0:00:31by Phillip Pullman.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33There's going to be a new trilogy!
0:00:33 > 0:00:35His Dark Materials sold more than 17 million copies
0:00:35 > 0:00:37and spawned a movie about heroine Lyra.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39The follow-up trilogy will be called The Book of Dust.
0:00:39 > 0:00:43The plot details are secret, but we know there will be a new hero.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46The first book will be out in October.
0:00:46 > 0:00:49The story about Lyra in His Dark Materials is finished.
0:00:49 > 0:00:54That story came to its conclusion.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56But there are other stories that can be
0:00:56 > 0:00:59told about the people in the book and the world in the book.
0:00:59 > 0:01:02One of them has been occupying my imagination
0:01:02 > 0:01:03could quite some time.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Sometimes when you write a story that comes
0:01:05 > 0:01:07before another story or after another story,
0:01:07 > 0:01:08people say is it a prequel?
0:01:08 > 0:01:11Is it a sequel?
0:01:11 > 0:01:14It is neither a prequel nor a sequel, it is an equal.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16That is what I call it.
0:01:16 > 0:01:18It is a different story.
0:01:18 > 0:01:22Which begins roughly ten years before His Dark Materials
0:01:22 > 0:01:25and continues roughly ten days after His Dark Materials.
0:01:34 > 0:01:35-- years.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38So we see Lara both as a baby and we also
0:01:38 > 0:01:40see her in the second book as an adult.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42England's new Test Cricket captain has been talking about how excited
0:01:42 > 0:01:44he is to take on the top job.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47Yorkshire batsman Joe Root is taking over from Alastair Cook,
0:01:47 > 0:01:48who stepped down last week.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50This afternoon Joe said he was looking forward
0:01:50 > 0:01:51to a busy year ahead.
0:01:51 > 0:01:55I have been gifted a very talented team that is filled with a mixture
0:01:55 > 0:01:59of experience, raw talent and a group of guys which are very
0:01:59 > 0:02:05ready to take on more responsibility and become tougher to beat.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07ROOTing for their side later will be Arsenal fans,
0:02:07 > 0:02:10as the Gunners take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League last-16.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12It's the first leg match tonight in Germany.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15Get this, Arsenal have been knocked out at this stage
0:02:15 > 0:02:19for the past six years - Twice to Bayern.
0:02:19 > 0:02:24But Arsene Wenger reckons his side can go further.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26Every year, the same target is to win the Champions League
0:02:26 > 0:02:29and when you look at the record, they are always basically
0:02:29 > 0:02:31in the last four.
0:02:31 > 0:02:36So it's a massive challenge, but I think we are
0:02:36 > 0:02:42capable to deal with it.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45Back here, the Dogs Trust charity has told us it's worried
0:02:45 > 0:02:47that the problem of puppy smuggling is growing.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49It's when dogs are secretly, and illegally, brought into
0:02:49 > 0:02:52the country, so they can be sold.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54I went to meet four brothers who were rescued.
0:02:54 > 0:03:01Meet Ralph, Steve, Ernest and Spot.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04As you can tell, these guys are pretty boisterous.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06Aren't you, Spot?
0:03:06 > 0:03:11But they didn't have the best start in life.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14They were born in bad conditions, taken away from their mum
0:03:14 > 0:03:16and smuggled into the country.
0:03:16 > 0:03:19Unfortunately, they're not the only puppies this has happened to.
0:03:19 > 0:03:22Others have been illegally transported from places
0:03:22 > 0:03:25in Eastern Europe like Poland and Hungary, then smuggled
0:03:25 > 0:03:32into the country on trains, ships and even in the back of vans.
0:03:32 > 0:03:35Charley's from the Dogs Trust and they're looking after these
0:03:35 > 0:03:37puppies until they're ready to find a new home.
0:03:37 > 0:03:39How often does this sort of thing happen?
0:03:39 > 0:03:42We're finding that more and more, people are choosing to smuggle them
0:03:42 > 0:03:49into the UK to make money.
0:03:49 > 0:03:52For example, Spot here has a problem with his eye, doesn't he?
0:03:52 > 0:03:54One of the side-effects of his poor breeding is the cherry
0:03:54 > 0:03:56eye you can see here.
0:03:56 > 0:03:58It's not life-threatening, but it could have a severe impact
0:03:58 > 0:04:01on him for the rest of his life.
0:04:01 > 0:04:04Charley, what can we do to make sure that we don't buy
0:04:04 > 0:04:06an illegally bred dog?
0:04:06 > 0:04:09If you are going to buy a dog using online adverts
0:04:09 > 0:04:11that offer them for sale, you should be looking out
0:04:11 > 0:04:15for lots of important things such as making sure you see the puppy
0:04:15 > 0:04:18with its mum and its littermates, and also that you shouldn't feel
0:04:18 > 0:04:24pressured into buying the puppy on the first visit.
0:04:24 > 0:04:27For these four boisterous brothers, you can bet they'll all find
0:04:27 > 0:04:32a new home really soon.
0:04:32 > 0:04:36And I'm leaving you with one EGG-cellent story.
0:04:36 > 0:04:38It's summer in Australia and temperatures in Queensland
0:04:38 > 0:04:41are so hot there right now, that this police officer managed
0:04:41 > 0:04:44a cook an egg on the top of his car!
0:04:44 > 0:04:47No yolk!
0:04:47 > 0:04:50That's all from me and the team today, join us back here
0:04:50 > 0:04:52tomorrow morning at 7:40.
0:04:52 > 0:04:55Don't forget to check out the website for all the rest
0:04:55 > 0:04:59of the day's stories.
