0:00:14 > 0:00:17Hi, I'm Ayshah and this is Newsround.
0:00:17 > 0:00:19First this afternoon, sad news from America where there's
0:00:19 > 0:00:24been a serious gun attack.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26It happened in a school in Florida.
0:00:26 > 0:00:28Attacks like these don't tend to happen in other countries,
0:00:28 > 0:00:31like the UK, so it's got some people asking why America's attitude
0:00:31 > 0:00:34to guns is different.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37In America, it is not unusual for people to own a gun.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39Many Americans see owning one as an important
0:00:39 > 0:00:43part of who they are.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46That is because when the USA was founded, the right to buy
0:00:46 > 0:00:48and carry a gun was written into the constitution.
0:00:48 > 0:00:52That is a list of basic rules that a country is based on.
0:00:52 > 0:00:56But Americans disagree about what this rule should mean today.
0:00:56 > 0:01:01Some people think that it means there should be no controls and that
0:01:01 > 0:01:04people should be able to buy and carry whatever gun they want,
0:01:04 > 0:01:08whenever they want.
0:01:08 > 0:01:11But others think there should be controls on what type of gun you can
0:01:11 > 0:01:14own and want the most powerful guns to be banned.
0:01:14 > 0:01:17And now there has been another gun attack and sadly
0:01:17 > 0:01:2017 people have died.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22The attack took place in the city of Parkland
0:01:22 > 0:01:25in the state of Florida, here in the US, and shortly
0:01:25 > 0:01:28after the attack police were able to capture and arrest the man
0:01:28 > 0:01:30they believe was behind the shooting.
0:01:30 > 0:01:33It is the sixth school shooting in US this year alone and it has
0:01:33 > 0:01:36people once again asking what can be done to deal with gun
0:01:36 > 0:01:41violence, here in the US.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43For every 100 people in the United States,
0:01:43 > 0:01:46there are 90 guns, and to put that into perspective, in England
0:01:46 > 0:01:49and Wales, for every 100 people, there are just six guns.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52Attacks like this one don't tend to happen here the UK,
0:01:52 > 0:01:53where the rules are tougher.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56In the US, there's no sign that they will be able to agree
0:01:56 > 0:02:04on what to do about it.
0:02:08 > 0:02:10Head to Newsround online where you can find advice
0:02:10 > 0:02:12about what to do if anything in the news upsets you.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14Next, he's known for getting up close with the world's deadliest
0:02:14 > 0:02:17animals, but now Steve Backshall has a new challenge to face.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19And this one's the biggest of his life.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22He'll be attempting to climb the north face of Mount Eiger
0:02:22 > 0:02:24in Switzerland, also known as the "Wall of Death".
0:02:24 > 0:02:32Hayley went to find him and find out how he's feeling about it.
0:02:32 > 0:02:36I can remember the first time that I stood at the base of it and looked
0:02:36 > 0:02:39up at this mile of vertical rock above me and thought,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41"How would it feel to be in the middle of that?"
0:02:41 > 0:02:42You're absolutely mad!
0:02:42 > 0:02:44Is there any part of you that's scared, petrified,
0:02:44 > 0:02:46not knowing what to do?
0:02:46 > 0:02:49Not now, but there is no doubt I will be once I'm up
0:02:49 > 0:02:52there because it is one of the most threatening walls on the planet.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54You've got this immense amount of snow and ice
0:02:54 > 0:02:56and the weather is going be brutal.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59We need it to be at least -20 to even start thinking about climbing.
0:02:59 > 0:03:00Wow.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02So, yes, it is a big expedition.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05So what training have you had to do then in order to do this?
0:03:05 > 0:03:07So I've been training for the last five months.
0:03:07 > 0:03:10I have been doing a lot of stuff that is working
0:03:10 > 0:03:13on building up what is called my strength-to-body weight.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16I have been losing a lot of weight, I have been
0:03:16 > 0:03:17on a diet for five months.
0:03:17 > 0:03:18Over Christmas?
0:03:18 > 0:03:20I know, tell me about it!
0:03:20 > 0:03:21But I kind of feel ready.
0:03:21 > 0:03:22OK.
0:03:22 > 0:03:25I know that you have dealt with a lot of scary situations,
0:03:25 > 0:03:27a lot of scary animals.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29On a scale of one to ten, how scary is this?
0:03:29 > 0:03:30Probably a ten.
0:03:30 > 0:03:31Oh, my goodness!
0:03:31 > 0:03:32Coming from you, that is scary.
0:03:32 > 0:03:35If everything goes right, it will be very physically demanding,
0:03:35 > 0:03:37we will be exhausted and we will have no
0:03:37 > 0:03:42sleep for days on end.
0:03:42 > 0:03:43But a great experience.
0:03:43 > 0:03:47If everything goes wrong, it will be horrific.
0:03:47 > 0:03:51And it is 4000 metres, how long is that going to take you?
0:03:51 > 0:03:54Hoping for three days, that would be ideal.
0:03:54 > 0:03:57If it takes longer than that then we will run out of food.
0:03:57 > 0:04:00There is only so much we can carry on our backs.
0:04:00 > 0:04:02If anybody can do it, Steve, you can do it.
0:04:02 > 0:04:03You can do this.
0:04:03 > 0:04:04I think you got it.
0:04:04 > 0:04:08It's nice to have you believe in me.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13And everything will be on CBBC.
0:04:13 > 0:04:16You can watch it on CBBC online to see all of this challenge.
0:04:16 > 0:04:18And we will be right behind you, Steve.
0:04:18 > 0:04:20Well, I say that, behind the sofa.
0:04:20 > 0:04:21But we are with you.
0:04:21 > 0:04:24I will feel that support, I am sure!
0:04:24 > 0:04:25Finally, let's talk about birthdays.
0:04:25 > 0:04:28They're a time to celebrate with friends and family,
0:04:28 > 0:04:30perhaps open cards and presents and, of course, to chow down
0:04:30 > 0:04:32on your own life size cake-y double.
0:04:32 > 0:04:34Well, it is for these two anyway!
0:04:34 > 0:04:35Lily and Lyla's mum is a baker.
0:04:35 > 0:04:38She created these scarily realistic cake versions of her twin girls
0:04:38 > 0:04:39to celebrate their first birthday.
0:04:39 > 0:04:42The edible pair took more than 100 hours to make and used 44 eggs.
0:04:42 > 0:04:45It's not the first time Mum Lara has created edible people...
0:04:45 > 0:04:53Check out her cake version of Prince George!
0:04:55 > 0:04:56That's all for today.
