:00:26. > :00:32.Hello. We are live. It is just after 5pm on Thursday afternoon.

:00:32. > :00:37.You are with Nel and Joe. Stick with us because we have a jam-

:00:37. > :00:41.packed show. Could this be the best cartoon character of all time? And

:00:41. > :00:44.School Report takes over the news room.

:00:44. > :00:49.First up, we are talking about horse racing. This week the

:00:49. > :00:53.country's top jockeys have been competing in one of the biggest

:00:53. > :00:58.events - the Cheltenham Festival. This year horses have been making

:00:59. > :01:04.the headlines for the wrong reasons. Five horses have been killed so far,

:01:04. > :01:09.injured in the races. Across four days, more than 200,000 people will

:01:09. > :01:12.come to cheer on their favourite horses at Cheltenham. High drama is

:01:12. > :01:17.not unusual. This year has been especially tragic. Five horses died

:01:17. > :01:23.this week. They were injured when they fell during races and had to

:01:23. > :01:26.be put down. The events this week have fuelled a row over whether the

:01:26. > :01:31.risks involved make the sport too cruel. New health and safety

:01:31. > :01:36.measures have been taken at Cheltenham at nine horses died back

:01:36. > :01:40.in 2006. Some groups say that is not enough. Here, at this

:01:40. > :01:43.rehabilitation centre, injured racehorses are looked after while

:01:43. > :01:49.they recover. Nicky who looks after the horses says she doesn't think

:01:49. > :01:53.the sport is cruel. The British Horseracing Boarbroodd authority

:01:53. > :01:59.and other bodies are working hard to ensure that facilities are

:01:59. > :02:09.improving all the time. The people in charge of racing in Britain told

:02:09. > :02:17.

:02:17. > :02:21.us that like all competitive sports, The Cheltenham Festival has been

:02:21. > :02:24.going on for more than 200 years. The authorities say they will look

:02:24. > :02:28.into what went wrong here to try and make the sport safer in the

:02:28. > :02:34.future. Moving on and thousands of refugees have been fleeing violence

:02:34. > :02:38.in Sirry yafplt over the past 24 -- Syria. Over the past 24 hours many

:02:38. > :02:42.people have arrived at camps. The UN says 8,000 people have been

:02:42. > :02:46.killed during the conflict. More than 200,000 have been forced to

:02:46. > :02:50.flee their homes. The BBC's Jonathan Head is in Hatay, at one

:02:50. > :02:55.of the refugee camps, where they are running out of space. There are

:02:55. > :03:03.people here who have arrived recently, all telling the sorry

:03:03. > :03:08.that their villages were surrounded, they were fired on for days. The

:03:08. > :03:12.villagersed and left. -- villagers upped and left. Many more are

:03:12. > :03:18.making their way across. Have you got what it takes to do this job?

:03:18. > :03:23.Well, it turns out, yes! Thousands of you have turned into journalists

:03:23. > :03:27.to take part in BBC sport reports. You have filmed, edited and

:03:27. > :03:32.reported on subjects you think are important.

:03:32. > :03:36.For days, these guys have been kept megabusy, from grilling David

:03:36. > :03:40.Cameron. Mr Cameron, if Scotland votes no to independence, what

:03:40. > :03:44.further powers would you be prepared to give to the Scottish

:03:44. > :03:47.Parliament? It is a discussion to have with the Scottish people.

:03:47. > :03:52.Getting exclusives from top children's author Michael Morpurgo.

:03:52. > :03:57.Are you writing a book at the moment? What is it about? Yes. I

:03:57. > :04:01.have just finished one. It is a Medal for Leroy. Even getting to

:04:01. > :04:05.grips with being on telly. Some joins me early this morning. What

:04:05. > :04:10.have you taken from this whole experience? Well, when you come on

:04:10. > :04:17.this journey you learn a lot. have all worked hard. OK, so it is

:04:17. > :04:22.not all about television today. These guys at the BBC's studio have

:04:22. > :04:29.been preparing and doing sport bulletins all day. We have joipls

:04:30. > :04:36.and Anya here. -- James and Anya here. I thought it would be nice to

:04:36. > :04:41.see what it is like to work in media. I thought, "Get your words

:04:41. > :04:45.right." It went OK in the end. But it does not stop here. Once

:04:45. > :04:50.today is over, you won't have to wait until next year to get

:04:50. > :04:55.involved. With big events like the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond

:04:55. > :04:59.Jubilee there are lots of chances to get in on the action. Check out

:04:59. > :05:03.the School Report website. You can see yourself on screen by the

:05:03. > :05:10.summer. Next up, last night Wales went to sleep with five cities,

:05:10. > :05:16.today it woke up to find out it had number six. St Asaph will join

:05:16. > :05:22.Cardiff, Newport, Bangor and St David's as having city status. Two

:05:22. > :05:28.more were announced. They are Perth in Scotland... You

:05:28. > :05:32.can join in tomorrow for our report. It has 3,400 people.

:05:32. > :05:37.Sticking the jubilee celebrations. Over the past week we have seen

:05:37. > :05:42.Prince Harry run a marathon and get down to the beat in Brazil. Now the

:05:42. > :05:47.royal in Rio has been giving an interview about what party he and

:05:47. > :05:52.the other royal grandkids might give their gran. When we get back,

:05:52. > :05:55.we as a group of grandchildren will be able to have a dinner and maybe

:05:55. > :06:01.take her out on the town. I don't know. Does the Queen go out on the

:06:01. > :06:05.town? I don't know. Does yours? if you are a cartoon character,

:06:05. > :06:11.then tonight is a very big night. The British Animation Awards will

:06:11. > :06:13.be rewarding the winners of the awards for Britain's favourite

:06:13. > :06:15.cartoon character. Will it be Wallace and Gromit, Peppa Pig,

:06:15. > :06:18.Postman Pat, Shaun The Sheep and Charlie and Lola?

:06:18. > :06:28.Well, we have been asking you to pick your favourite on the website.

:06:28. > :06:47.

:06:47. > :06:55.Here are some of the comments you He goes on to say they teach his

:06:55. > :07:03.little sister how to be a good one. Anna says:

:07:03. > :07:08.I would have to agree. My favourite would be, have you ever watched Hey

:07:08. > :07:12.Arnold? Yes. Next One Direction have been talking about conquering

:07:12. > :07:17.America. Their album is number one on the US iTunes chart. Justin

:07:17. > :07:25.Bieber took to Twitter to congratulate them. The band say

:07:25. > :07:29.their success feels in-- incredible. There were 5,000 people at the book

:07:29. > :07:34.signing. I said, "Can you believe all these people have turned up for

:07:34. > :07:37.us?" you get moments that make you grateful for what you are doing. We

:07:37. > :07:41.would love the album to go number one. We are hoping for the best
