:01:55. > :01:59.There are worries the creatures are now endangered.

:02:06. > :02:13.Not far off the coast of Sydney in Australia is what's known
:02:14. > :02:20.People diving here will find strange and beautiful creatures living
:02:21. > :02:26.The locals call these guys weedies, otherwise known
:02:27. > :02:31.Native to the coast around Australia, they are related to sea
:02:32. > :02:37.horses and spend their time drifting in the water, blending
:02:38. > :02:41.The problem is, these colourful creatures are becoming harder
:02:42. > :02:47.and harder to spot and not just because of their tether camouflage.
:02:48. > :02:50.and harder to spot and not just because of their clever camouflage.
:02:51. > :02:53.This is the best side in Sydney, you can still see them alive.
:02:54. > :02:55.Other sides, particularly on the north side of Sydney,
:02:56. > :02:58.where they used to be a regular occurrence, you're lucky to find one
:02:59. > :03:03.Marine biologists have come up with a clever plan to work out how
:03:04. > :03:10.They are asking divers to snap a picture of
:03:11. > :03:16.The researchers are then using a kind of facial recognition
:03:17. > :03:18.software to identify each fish's unique patterns.
:03:19. > :03:21.Every time they identifyy a new weedy, they give it a name
:03:22. > :03:26.to help keep track of it, kind of like Facebook for weedies.
:03:27. > :03:34.And it will tell us if it is David or Greg or Alicia, because every
:03:35. > :03:38.single new sea dragon that we have gets a name so we can follow
:03:39. > :03:40.Weedy Sea Dragons are classified as near-threatened
:03:41. > :03:44.but the scientists reckon this research could provide enough info
:03:45. > :03:51.to have them retested as endangered, which is more serious.
:03:52. > :03:53.Scientists believe climate change could be a big part
:03:54. > :03:57.They say rising sea temperatures are killing the seaweed,
:03:58. > :04:03.Once we lose them, we will never get them back.
:04:04. > :04:06.They were here hundreds of thousands of years ago.
:04:07. > :04:10.With our impact, losing them would be really sad.
:04:11. > :04:13.So if you find yourself diving in Australia,
:04:14. > :04:17.snap a picture to make sure there are plenty of little weedies
