:02:40. > :02:46.The problem is these colourful creatures
:02:47. > :02:48.are becoming harder and harder to spot, and not just
:02:49. > :02:54.This is the best site in Sydney, so you can
:02:55. > :03:00.Other sites, particularly on the North side of
:03:01. > :03:02.Sydney, where they used to be a common occurrence,
:03:03. > :03:05.now you are lucky to find one and sometimes you find none.
:03:06. > :03:08.Marine biologists have come up with a clever plan to work out how
:03:09. > :03:13.They are asking divers to snap a picture of the
:03:14. > :03:16.The researchers are then using a kind
:03:17. > :03:18.of facial recognition software to identify each
:03:19. > :03:26.Every time they identify a new Weedy they give it a name to help keep
:03:27. > :03:30.track of it - kind of like a Facebook for Weedies.
:03:31. > :03:34.And it will tell us if it is David or Greg or Alicia,
:03:35. > :03:38.because every single new Sea Dragon we have gets a name so we can follow
:03:39. > :03:44.Weedy Sea Dragons are classified as near threatened, but
:03:45. > :03:48.the scientists reckon this research could provide enough info to have
:03:49. > :03:53.them listed as endangered, which is more serious.
:03:54. > :03:55.Scientists believe climate change could be a big part
:03:56. > :04:01.They say rising sea temperatures are killing
:04:02. > :04:04.the seaweed, which leaves them homeless.
:04:05. > :04:06.Once we lose them, we will never get them back.
:04:07. > :04:09.They were here hundreds of thousands of years ago.
:04:10. > :04:14.With our impact, losing them would be really sad.
