:00:07. > :00:11.$:/STARTFEED. It's Monday 15th October. This is Newsround. Coming

:00:11. > :00:14.your way today: We're live in Edinburgh on an

:00:14. > :00:17.historic day for Scotland and the rest of the UK!

:00:17. > :00:24.And also on way - more on the daredevil who jumped from the edge

:00:24. > :00:34.of space. And not quite as epic. The lucky

:00:34. > :00:45.

:00:45. > :00:49.escape for teenage skydiver who got Hi guys - I'm Ricky. First up,

:00:49. > :00:52.today could be a defining moment in the history of Great Britain. A

:00:52. > :00:56.deal was signed just a few hours ago that takes the decision on

:00:56. > :00:59.whether Scotland stays part of the UK - out of the hands of

:00:59. > :01:06.politicians and leaves it up to the people. Hayley is in Edinburgh

:01:06. > :01:09.where it's all been happening and we can cross to her live.

:01:09. > :01:16.I'm here in Edinburgh, just round the corner from the parliamentary

:01:16. > :01:19.buildings. And today at one o'clock, Prime Minister David Cameron and

:01:19. > :01:29.the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, signed a deal

:01:29. > :01:30.

:01:30. > :01:38.agreeing to let people in Scotland decide on their future. The two

:01:38. > :01:43.leaders shook hands just behind me. We have spoken about this a lot,

:01:43. > :01:53.and it can get quite confusing. You have got politicians, who are

:01:53. > :01:59.

:01:59. > :02:05.fermenters, trying to convince the Independence will give us the

:02:05. > :02:12.opportunity to make Scotland the country and we know it can be.

:02:12. > :02:20.Something very special is in danger. Scottish politics is about a

:02:20. > :02:29.positive vision for the future. think we are better off together.

:02:29. > :02:32.just don't think it is necessary. Stand on its own two feet. We're

:02:32. > :02:36.not in the business of ripping things up, we are developing a new

:02:36. > :02:42.relationship. This is the right decision for Scotland and also

:02:42. > :02:52.right for the United Kingdom. People of Scotland, you will

:02:52. > :02:58.

:02:58. > :03:04.decide! I think Scotland would be So the people of Scotland will be

:03:04. > :03:10.able to vote yes or no. But also, people aged 16 and 17 will be able

:03:10. > :03:15.to vote for the first time in British history. Thank you for

:03:15. > :03:19.joining us. A big question has been asked today, what other points that

:03:20. > :03:25.we know from this? At the big thing we know after today it is when this

:03:25. > :03:29.is going to happen. Autumn 2014, we don't know the exact date, but we

:03:30. > :03:33.will find out soon. It will be a straightforward question, yes or No

:03:33. > :03:38.to independence. There was some suggestion about to be more

:03:38. > :03:42.complicated, it will not be. People who are 14 and 15 now will be able

:03:42. > :03:50.to vote. It is not just the leaders, though it is going to be going on

:03:50. > :03:55.in the next two years? That right, perhaps some celebrities involved,

:03:55. > :03:59.Sean Connery, Alan Cumming, they are in favour of independence for

:03:59. > :04:02.Scotland. Not so many celebrities on the other side, but they know

:04:02. > :04:09.they need to get young people involved to persuade them to buy it.

:04:09. > :04:12.Thank you very much. What we are looking for is a decision from the

:04:12. > :04:22.public. The politicians can have their say, but at the end of the

:04:22. > :04:25.day, it comes down to the public. We have two years to wait for that.

:04:25. > :04:29.Stay with us, still to come we've got all those extraordinary

:04:29. > :04:32.pictures from the record-breaking skyfall on the way.

:04:32. > :04:37.A Pakistani schoolgirl shot by the Taliban has just arrived in the UK

:04:37. > :04:40.for life saving treatment. Malala Yousafzai, who campaigns for girls'

:04:40. > :04:49.rights in her country, was targeted as she was travelling on her school

:04:49. > :04:52.bus. Doctors operated on her last week. But we found out this morning

:04:52. > :05:00.that she'll soon be flown over here, where medical teams will spend a

:05:00. > :05:03.long time treating her, to get her fully better again. She has been

:05:03. > :05:07.unconscious and in a very serious condition since she was attacked on

:05:07. > :05:11.her way home from school six days ago. Doctors here say they have

:05:11. > :05:17.done everything they can to try and save her life, but she now needs

:05:17. > :05:21.more specialist treatment, that is why she's being sent to the UK. Her

:05:21. > :05:27.progress will be followed very closely indeed by millions of

:05:27. > :05:31.people across Pakistan and around the world. They have been shocked

:05:31. > :05:38.that extremists would target a schoolgirl just because she

:05:38. > :05:45.believed in education for girls and they didn't. She has just touched

:05:45. > :05:48.down in the UK and will be taken to a special hospital in Birmingham.

:05:48. > :05:51.Plans to build a new stadium for Liverpool Ffootball Club have been

:05:51. > :05:57.scrapped. The team's bosses had started working on a new ground,

:05:57. > :06:04.but have had to stop because of money worries. The Reds now will be

:06:04. > :06:11.staying at Anfield, which will getting a 300 million makeover.

:06:11. > :06:20.Were you one of the millions of people who were glued to the

:06:20. > :06:23.screen? The daredevil skydived a massive 24 miles from his floating

:06:23. > :06:26.pod way up in the statosphere to the solid ground back on earth.

:06:26. > :06:32.Felix said after last night's excitement, his daredevil days are

:06:32. > :06:37.over, but he'll remember the feeling forever!

:06:37. > :06:46.It looks like a trailer for a new super hero film. Expensive graphics

:06:46. > :06:53.and daredevil stunts. But this is real, and so good. We will show it

:06:53. > :06:58.to you again. With a salute, a false back to earth. He is free

:06:58. > :07:02.falling faster than the speed of sound, more than 830 mph. But then

:07:02. > :07:12.he runs into trouble, spinning head over heels, and that can be

:07:12. > :07:13.

:07:13. > :07:16.dangerous. It too much blood rushes to his head, a can faint. Using his

:07:16. > :07:19.experience of more than 2,500 dives, though, he manages to regain

:07:19. > :07:24.control. Then something else goes wrong - you can hear him saying his

:07:24. > :07:27.visor is fogging up. That means he can't see his instruments to know

:07:27. > :07:34.how high he is and, vitally, when to pull his parachute. So he

:07:34. > :07:39.decides to play it safe and pull it early. With the hard bit over,

:07:39. > :07:45.mission control are ecstatic - and mum is very proud. From there it's

:07:45. > :07:48.plain sailing the rest of the way. I had tears in my eyes when I was

:07:49. > :07:52.coming back, because you are sitting there, and you thought

:07:52. > :07:58.about that moment so many times, how it would feel and how it would

:07:58. > :08:01.look like, and this is way bigger the night in dissipated. Felix was

:08:02. > :08:07.done in just under 10 minutes - falling to his knees in celebration

:08:07. > :08:17.and exhaustion. I expect we will see a film of this soon. I wonder

:08:17. > :08:22.

:08:22. > :08:24.who could sing the theme tune? Now to another skydiver who had a

:08:24. > :08:34.pretty lucky escape. 18-year-old Liam Byrne crashed into a tree

:08:34. > :08:35.

:08:35. > :08:40.after his parachute didn't open. He took it all in his stride. At first

:08:40. > :08:44.I was glad I didn't hit the church, I didn't hit the fence below, but

:08:44. > :08:54.it was a bit scary. I just made sure I grab on to the tree, I was

:08:54. > :08:54.
