:00:09. > :00:13.It's 5, we're live and you're watching Newsround. I'm Hayley,
:00:13. > :00:15.he's Ricky, and this is what's on the way in the next few minutes.
:00:15. > :00:19.Why social networking sites have age limits and whether they should
:00:19. > :00:26.be open to everyone. Plus is it time smoking in cars was
:00:26. > :00:36.banned? You'll have your say. And the town under siege from
:00:36. > :00:48.
:00:48. > :00:50.baboons. All coming up on your First, from Justin Bieber and Lady
:00:50. > :00:56.Gaga, to your older brother or sister, it can feel like everyone
:00:56. > :00:58.but you is on Facebook or Twitter. But a new report out today says
:00:58. > :01:03.that many kids under 13 in the UK are ignoring age limits and lying
:01:03. > :01:06.about how old they are to get on social networking sites.
:01:06. > :01:14.The EU has warned they're putting themselves in danger, so I've been
:01:14. > :01:20.looking into why the limits are there in the first place.
:01:20. > :01:23.From Twitter hashtags on X Factor to liking Strictly on Facebook.
:01:23. > :01:29.It can feel like social networking is everywhere these days. And
:01:29. > :01:34.everyone's using it. But if you're under 13 you're not allowed on
:01:34. > :01:39.sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Yet that isn't stopping more than
:01:39. > :01:44.half of you logging on. A new report says 59 percent of 11 and 12
:01:44. > :01:51.year olds in the UK have a social networking profile. And among nine
:01:51. > :02:01.and ten year olds, the figure is more than one in four. You get sent
:02:01. > :02:06.bad messages by other people and it is not good.
:02:06. > :02:14.When you have friends at school on them do you feel left out? I do.
:02:14. > :02:19.why are these rules there in the first place? Cyber bullying is an
:02:19. > :02:23.issue and sometimes people forget about privacy settings and give up
:02:23. > :02:31.too much personal information. 13th is an age where we are some
:02:31. > :02:33.children will be more responsible. And there are sites out there, like
:02:33. > :02:41.Club Penguin, specifically for younger users. So what do they do
:02:41. > :02:44.that Facebook and Twitter don't? have 200 people worldwide making
:02:44. > :02:46.sure that people are safe and happy online.
:02:46. > :02:49.Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg says he wants the age limits to be
:02:49. > :02:51.lowered. But no matter how many followers that campaign gets, for
:02:51. > :02:54.now the rules designed to keep you safe are staying put.
:02:54. > :02:56.That's a debate that's going to run and run. Now though let's get a
:02:57. > :02:59.rundown of today's other major news stories now with Hayley.
:02:59. > :03:04.First up, more families in the UK are having to rely on emergency
:03:04. > :03:06.food supplies because of rising food prices. According to the
:03:06. > :03:09.Trussel Trust who run food banks where people go if they can't
:03:09. > :03:11.afford to buy things to eat. In just the last six months, they've
:03:11. > :03:18.helped more than 100,000 people, double the number from the whole of
:03:18. > :03:23.last year. Next to the new planet discovered
:03:23. > :03:27.by a couple of part-time star gazers. PH1 is 5,000 light years
:03:27. > :03:29.away and six times bigger than Earth. It was spotted throught the
:03:29. > :03:36.telescopes of two amateur astronomers. Experts say it's
:03:36. > :03:40.really rare because it's got four different suns.
:03:40. > :03:42.And there's new calls for smoking in cars to be banned. Scientists
:03:42. > :03:47.say chemical levels in cars where people smoked were three times
:03:47. > :03:50.higher than the official safe limit, even with the windows open.
:03:50. > :03:54.New research also shows kids are particularly at risk if a parent
:03:54. > :03:57.smokes while they're in the back seat.
:03:57. > :04:01.Well loads of you have been having your say on this on the Newsround
:04:01. > :04:04.website. Molly from Aberdeen says, "I think that smoking in a car
:04:04. > :04:08.should be banned because it could harm other people who don't smoke,
:04:09. > :04:12.which isn't fair." But Natalie from Rutland says, "I don't think
:04:12. > :04:21.smoking should be banned. People should just be sensible enough to
:04:21. > :04:24.not smoke when other people are in the car with them." now, when you
:04:24. > :04:27.woke up today, "Is the world going to end?" might not have been the
:04:27. > :04:35.first thing you thought of. But did you know 50 years ago that was a
:04:35. > :04:37.very real fear for kids in this country.
:04:37. > :04:42.It's 50 years ago to the day since the Cuban Missile Crisis, the
:04:42. > :04:44.closest the world ever came to complete anihilation. In 1962, the
:04:44. > :04:52.Soviet Union sent ships loaded with deadly nuclear bombs to a base
:04:52. > :04:54.right next to America in Cuba. The Americans threatened to fire
:04:54. > :04:57.equally devastating weapons on Russia if the Russians didn't turn
:04:57. > :04:59.around. And we came within minutes of them both firing their entire
:04:59. > :05:02.arsenal of nukes, something that would have wiped out most of the
:05:02. > :05:10.world. It was such a big fear that people in the UK prepared for the
:05:10. > :05:14.worst, as I've been finding out. 50 years ago children in this
:05:14. > :05:19.country were preparing for a missile attack. Most people would
:05:19. > :05:25.not stand a chance but some would go deep underground to escape the
:05:25. > :05:29.destruction above. If there was a bomb warning then a siren it would
:05:29. > :05:34.sound and people would head to their closest bunker. It is
:05:34. > :05:40.basically a big concrete block that could hold around 60 people, deep
:05:40. > :05:44.underground. There were 36 control posts in the UK all like this one.
:05:44. > :05:53.Let us have a look around. They had for a week's supply of food in the
:05:53. > :05:57.kitchen. The bedroom where everyone slept. Not very comfortable! And
:05:57. > :06:03.this room supplied everyone with electricity and water. But deep
:06:03. > :06:10.underground is the operations room where the action plan happened.
:06:10. > :06:15.had 60 people listening, plotting on the map where bombs had gone off.
:06:15. > :06:19.And saying to the military, this is the situation. The Soviet Union
:06:19. > :06:23.eventually broken up and new states like Russia got on better with a
:06:23. > :06:26.miracle. Luckily a new Pier attack on this country never happened but
:06:26. > :06:30.it is good to know there were places like this prepared just in
:06:30. > :06:32.case. Now monkeys might seem like pretty
:06:32. > :06:36.friendly animals, but for more than a decade, they've been terrorising
:06:36. > :06:38.people in South Africa's second busiest city, Cape Town. Locals
:06:38. > :06:42.have been complaining about the pesky primates trying to take over
:06:42. > :06:51.their town and now a new task force has been set up to stop them.
:06:51. > :07:01.Here's Joe with the story. Cape Town, spectacular, vibrant and
:07:01. > :07:04.a tourist Paradise. Until now. These baboons are a protected
:07:04. > :07:11.species under South African all but one troop of primates had become
:07:11. > :07:15.too friendly with the locals and are outstaying their welcome. There
:07:15. > :07:19.clambering into cars, stealing food and have acquired a particular
:07:19. > :07:24.taste for packed lunches. But the locals are fighting back with some
:07:24. > :07:27.unusual ideas to keep the animals in their natural environment. He's
:07:27. > :07:33.paid pull guns are armed with a potent peppers break and it is
:07:33. > :07:38.hoped that will deter them from entering the area in the future.
:07:38. > :07:43.just want to create an association so just one smell of pepper would
:07:43. > :07:48.be a scary enough to them so they say, let us get out of here.
:07:48. > :07:52.some argue it is humans who have caused the problem, building their
:07:52. > :07:57.homes in the natural habitat of the baboons. The animals have no choice
:07:57. > :08:02.but to scavenge for food by raiding campsites and cars. And tourists
:08:02. > :08:06.seem to be making it worse. People come and be seen the animal and
:08:06. > :08:09.think it is hungry and give them food. Philip and his team certainly
:08:09. > :08:19.have their work cut out if they want to stop these mischievous
:08:19. > :08:21.monkeys. All the home nations are in footy
:08:21. > :08:24.action tonight, but no doubt who the latest British sporting hero is.
:08:24. > :08:26.Tennis star, Heather Watson. She says she's now aiming to become
:08:26. > :08:33.World Number One after becoming the first British woman to win a top
:08:33. > :08:37.title in 24 years in Japan at the weekend. I have the capability and
:08:37. > :08:40.the mental toughness to do it. But all these girls think the same
:08:40. > :08:45.thing. And it looks like Andy Murray's mum was impressed with
:08:45. > :08:54.Heather's win. Judy Murray said if Heather won, she'd do the famous
