0:01:28 > 0:01:32But someone who has already got a medal in the bag for Team GB

0:01:32 > 0:01:33is teenager Izzy Atkin.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35She won bronze in the ski slopestyle competition

0:01:35 > 0:01:37and here's how she did it.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39This is the face of history.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Great Britain's first ever Olympic medal on skis.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Slopestyle is about nailing the rails and avoiding

0:01:45 > 0:01:47the bumps on the jumps.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51And 19-year-old Izzy Atkin does it in style.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Born and raised in the United States to a British father and a Malaysian

0:01:54 > 0:01:57mother, Izzy perfected her skills on the slopes of Maine

0:01:57 > 0:01:59when she was just three.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Before her final run, Atkin was sitting in fourth place

0:02:03 > 0:02:06so this had to be flawless.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09Biggest run of her life starts now.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Every twist, every jump, pushing it to the limit,

0:02:12 > 0:02:16she laid down a score good enough for third but could anyone else take

0:02:16 > 0:02:18a medal away from her?

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Oh no!

0:02:21 > 0:02:22She's down.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26Great Britain's Izzy Atkin takes the bronze.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28There were tonnes of big names in the field, you know,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31it could have been anyone's.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33I was standing at the bottom after my third and final run

0:02:33 > 0:02:37and I knew I had skied the best I could and I was just waiting

0:02:37 > 0:02:40for those last three or four girls to drop and my heart was racing.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43But yeah, I can't believe it.

0:02:43 > 0:02:44Well, believe it, Izzy!

0:02:44 > 0:02:52You're an Olympic bronze medallist.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55The illegal hunting of animals, or poaching, is a big problem

0:02:55 > 0:02:56for wildlife in Africa.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Now, British soldiers are being to be sent to Africa

0:02:58 > 0:03:01to help protect animals like elephants, lions and rhinos.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04The aim is for them to help train rangers in Malawi after a succesfull

0:03:04 > 0:03:10trial of the scheme last year.

0:03:10 > 0:03:14Another animal who needs some help right now is the orangutan.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Now, a team from Chester Zoo is trying to save the animals

0:03:17 > 0:03:19in the country of Borneo in south-east Asia.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21They're doing it by repairing bits of the forest that

0:03:21 > 0:03:22have been damaged.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25The BBC's Victoria Gill has been finding out more.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Zoo programmes like this preserve small populations

0:03:28 > 0:03:31of Bornean orangutans but in the wild, they're being

0:03:31 > 0:03:34pushed rapidly towards extinction.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37Their rainforest home continues to be cleared

0:03:37 > 0:03:45for agriculture and mining.

0:03:46 > 0:03:47Scientists estimate that deforestation alone

0:03:47 > 0:03:49could wipe out another 45,000 orangutans here in

0:03:49 > 0:03:53the next three decades.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55But this bridge building project is a much-needed sign of hope.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58Where the forest is fragmented, a team from Chester zoo

0:03:58 > 0:04:01and the Malaysian charity Hutan is physically reconnecting it

0:04:01 > 0:04:05with tough polyester straps.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08This remarkable footage captured by a tourist is the project's

0:04:08 > 0:04:16first sign of success.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19To actually see them using them and see them moving more

0:04:19 > 0:04:21freely across a habitat that is so fragmented

0:04:21 > 0:04:23is a really positive sign.

0:04:23 > 0:04:24This is very much a short-term solution.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27The long-term solution is to reforest the area.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30Happy new year!

0:04:30 > 0:04:36Because today is the start of the Chinese New year.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52But Chinese New Year is a bit different to the one

0:04:52 > 0:05:01we celebrate on January one.

0:05:01 > 0:05:02-- January 1st.

0:05:02 > 0:05:06In China, they use a traditional calendar, which follows

0:05:06 > 0:05:08the movements of the moon and Chinese New Year celebrates

0:05:08 > 0:05:09the start of a new moon.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12Each year is represented by one of 12 animals

0:05:12 > 0:05:14from the Chinese Zodiac and every 12 years, this loops back

0:05:14 > 0:05:15around and start again.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17This year is the year of the dog.

0:05:17 > 0:05:20But what are the qualities of a person who was born

0:05:20 > 0:05:21in the year of the dog?

0:05:21 > 0:05:24Well, dog people are considered to be kind, loyal and honest.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26However, they're also thought to be stubborn,

0:05:26 > 0:05:30easy to anger and fussy.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34Famous people who were born in the year of the dog include
