:00:26. > :00:28.Well, the Government said yesterday kids in England might be spending

:00:29. > :00:31.more time in the classroom in the future.

:00:32. > :00:33.The idea was announced in yesterday's Budget.

:00:34. > :00:36.That's when the man in charge of spending the UK's money,

:00:37. > :00:39.George Osborne, sets out his plans for the year ahead.

:00:40. > :00:46.3:30pm and it's home time. It's when most of you finish school.

:00:47. > :00:49.But the Government announced plans to extend the school day in England

:00:50. > :00:53.so you finish later in the afternoon.

:00:54. > :00:55.It means secondary schools in England could be opened up

:00:56. > :01:01.Now, that's additional time that would be used for more lessons

:01:02. > :01:06.and even after-school activities like art and technology.

:01:07. > :01:09.So how would you feel about staying at school for longer?

:01:10. > :01:11.It'll be all right if it's good lessons.

:01:12. > :01:13.If it's bad lessons, it won't be good.

:01:14. > :01:17.I like being in school and having fun, but when you stay on too long,

:01:18. > :01:22.I have to go home to do my homework straight away, but if you had longer

:01:23. > :01:26.hours in school, I could get the teachers to help me do it.

:01:27. > :01:28.If we're there longer, it will affect our learning,

:01:29. > :01:31.because we won't be concentrating as much because we'd be tired.

:01:32. > :01:34.If children had extra education then they wouldn't have enough time to do

:01:35. > :01:40.the stuff children should be doing, like hanging out with friends.

:01:41. > :01:43.I think I would miss more time with my family and playing

:01:44. > :01:53.saying children will miss out on family time at home and that some

:01:54. > :01:56.schools might struggle to find enough money to stay

:01:57. > :02:01.The Government said they will give money to help schools in England,

:02:02. > :02:04.but there may not be enough for everyone.

:02:05. > :02:07.So if your school decides to extend your day, well,

:02:08. > :02:12.you could be in the classroom for a little bit longer.

:02:13. > :02:15.We asked you what you think about the idea of a longer school

:02:16. > :02:18.day and absolutely loads of you have been in touch.

:02:19. > :02:20.Bethany from Cheltenham said: I think that having longer school

:02:21. > :02:24.days wouldn't be the best because kids won't have enough time

:02:25. > :02:29.Emily agreed, saying: I think the idea is ridiculous.

:02:30. > :02:33.Children are already stressed about having to go home after school

:02:34. > :02:35.and do homework and revise for tests.

:02:36. > :02:40.We aren't machines, we need rest too.

:02:41. > :02:42.Meredith in Leeds is concerned about losing out on time

:02:43. > :02:44.to practice her own hobbies after school.

:02:45. > :02:48.She said: I swim every day and if the school day was longer

:02:49. > :02:53.My life time goal is to be an Olympic swimmer.

:02:54. > :02:55.Some of you thought longer school days

:02:56. > :02:59.Tom in Hastings said: I think that the school hours should be

:03:00. > :03:02.longer because we will have more time to do things such as revising

:03:03. > :03:05.for tests with the support of teachers.

:03:06. > :03:08.And Belle in Sussex had this suggestion: It's a good idea

:03:09. > :03:11.if they change the morning time to later as well,

:03:23. > :03:25.said many sweet, fizzy drinks are about to get more expensive,

:03:34. > :03:39.They say the extra mile race from sugary drinks is expected to be

:03:40. > :03:43.hundreds of millions of pounds a year. It will pay for more support

:03:44. > :03:46.in primary schools. The changes will start in two years' time.
