0:03:14 > 0:03:16Pretty spectacular!
0:03:16 > 0:03:18Nurdles, it's a funny word isn't it?
0:03:18 > 0:03:22Well these beads have been causing a big problem in our seas.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24Ayshah's got more.
0:03:24 > 0:03:26JOLLY MUSIC.
0:03:26 > 0:03:27Nurdle.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29Nurdle.
0:03:29 > 0:03:30Nurdle.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33TOGETHER: That's what these things are called.
0:03:33 > 0:03:42And we're here with Ayshah to go on a hunt to find them.
0:03:42 > 0:03:45While they're still looking, I'll tell you a bit more about...
0:03:45 > 0:03:48Nurdles are small plastic balls, similar to micro-beads,
0:03:48 > 0:03:51which are found in face washes.
0:03:51 > 0:03:53They're used to make bigger plastic products,
0:03:53 > 0:03:58like bottles and paddling pools.
0:03:58 > 0:04:02Millions of them wash up on UK beaches every year.
0:04:02 > 0:04:04Guys, what have you found so far?
0:04:04 > 0:04:08We found loads and loads of nurdles, like, tonnes.
0:04:08 > 0:04:10We've found nurdles, and they were just lying
0:04:10 > 0:04:12on the beach, and they're really hard to find.
0:04:12 > 0:04:16The sea is basically pushing them into the ground,
0:04:16 > 0:04:21and the sand's covering them up.
0:04:21 > 0:04:25We're nurdle hunting today, why are we doing it?
0:04:25 > 0:04:27Well, we're trying to get lots of people out onto beaches,
0:04:27 > 0:04:29looking for these little pellets called nurdles, to try
0:04:29 > 0:04:32and help us make a map.
0:04:32 > 0:04:35We use that information to them talk to companies that are handling these
0:04:35 > 0:04:38pellets and spilling them by accident, to help
0:04:38 > 0:04:42them make sure they stop spilling them in the future.
0:04:42 > 0:04:44These pellets are really, really small.
0:04:44 > 0:04:47Can they cause any harm to things that are in the sea?
0:04:47 > 0:04:49They are small, but once they're at sea they don't go away.
0:04:49 > 0:04:52They'll just break down into smaller and smaller pieces,
0:04:52 > 0:04:54and they also unfortunately look quite a lot like animal food,
0:04:54 > 0:04:57like fish eggs, so sea birds and fish eat them,
0:04:57 > 0:05:00and they feel full and don't eat proper food.
0:05:00 > 0:05:03So it is a big problem.
0:05:03 > 0:05:04Who's found nurdles?
0:05:04 > 0:05:06TOGETHER: We have!
0:05:06 > 0:05:09I want to see, I want to see!
0:05:09 > 0:05:11Wow!
0:05:11 > 0:05:14There's some here, there's some here...
0:05:14 > 0:05:16How many do you think we've got?
0:05:16 > 0:05:19More than 1,000.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22There were loads, weren't there?
0:05:22 > 0:05:23Good job, guys.
0:05:23 > 0:05:24You can officially call yourselves...
0:05:24 > 0:05:34TOGETHER: Nurdle hunters!
0:05:34 > 0:05:37Next, why did the sea lion cross the road?
0:05:37 > 0:05:38To stop traffic of course!
0:05:38 > 0:05:40This pretty large mammal was caught on camera,
0:05:40 > 0:05:44right in the middle of a main road in Chile, South America.
0:05:44 > 0:05:46Apparently sea lions sometimes go off on an adventure
0:05:46 > 0:05:48searching for food.
0:05:48 > 0:05:54That's all from me, Newsround's back right here just after 2pm.
