0:00:11 > 0:00:12Good afternoon.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15I'm Ricky with your top stories.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18Fist up, he's divided opinion, caused huge controversy,

0:00:18 > 0:00:22and shocked the world by winning the election to become US President.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25On Friday, Donald Trump will officially take charge of America.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Leah's travelled to Trump's home City of New York

0:00:28 > 0:00:35to find out who he is, and what kids there think of him.

0:00:35 > 0:00:36Donald Trump is determined.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39I'm going to build a wall and Mexico's going to pay for it.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Donald Trump is going to make America great again.

0:00:42 > 0:00:43God bless you!

0:00:43 > 0:00:49Donald Trump talks like this...

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Welcome to New York, the city that never sleeps.

0:00:52 > 0:00:59This is where Donald Trump was born, grew up and made a name for himself.

0:00:59 > 0:01:04But, despite that, many New Yorkers are not big fans.

0:01:04 > 0:01:05Donald Trump is a joke.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08I've never said I was a perfect person, nor pretended to be

0:01:08 > 0:01:10someone that I'm not.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14Donald Trump is not my president.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17So, just who is Donald Trump then?

0:01:17 > 0:01:19Well, for starters, he grew up in this exclusive,

0:01:19 > 0:01:24well-off area of Queens, in this very house.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27He lived with his mum and dad, Mary and Fred Trump,

0:01:27 > 0:01:31and two brothers and two sisters.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34At school, he liked baseball and misbehaved, but from a young age

0:01:34 > 0:01:40he always had big ambitions to be rich and powerful.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44These kids have big ambitions in life too.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Like Trump, they are growing up in Queens, but life

0:01:46 > 0:01:50for them is very different.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53I feel ashamed that I'm from Queens now, because this type

0:01:53 > 0:01:56of man grew up here, while I grew up in a whole other way

0:01:56 > 0:01:59because I was raised to be respectful to people.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02It's ridiculous to think that we're going to be led by

0:02:02 > 0:02:04this man who's so closed-minded.

0:02:04 > 0:02:08At the same time, it is kind of unsettling that we have a big

0:02:08 > 0:02:11billionaire buffoon that is going to be our president.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14His attitude, I think, does tick people off,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17and I think it'll get in the way of what he wants to do for America.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21All I can say is you have to be hopeful because maybe, you never

0:02:21 > 0:02:26know, he could do something good.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Donald Trump really made a name for himself up here -

0:02:28 > 0:02:31that's Trump Tower.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35Now, after taking over his dad's company, he became known

0:02:35 > 0:02:37for being a billionaire businessman and a reality TV star...

0:02:37 > 0:02:39You're fired.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42..not for being a politician.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Good morning, America.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Trump's unexpected rise to the White House is the top story

0:02:47 > 0:02:50on America's biggest morning news show.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53He doesn't talk like a politician and he's been able to plough his way

0:02:53 > 0:02:56through it because he says, look, I am not politically correct,

0:02:56 > 0:03:01and I'm not a politician, and I think to people watching him,

0:03:01 > 0:03:05those who like him, that is deeply appealing.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07His entire persona circles very much around being successful -

0:03:07 > 0:03:11I am a winner, I am a success, I am a self-made man, and so on.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14We have the best pizza in the world in Staten Island.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16And those are the qualities that appeal to these schoolkids

0:03:16 > 0:03:20in the area of Staten Island.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23When I was younger, me and my mum used to watch

0:03:23 > 0:03:25the Celebrity Apprentice all the time, and I realised

0:03:25 > 0:03:29the firmness in his talk and how he always wanted to get things done.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31I personally feel that he'll do quite well,

0:03:31 > 0:03:32especially on the economy.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35He is very aggressive in how he speaks.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38It's just his way of expressing how he feels.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40A lot of people don't express it that way -

0:03:40 > 0:03:42that's why they are not familiar and that's why

0:03:42 > 0:03:44they don't like it that much.

0:03:44 > 0:03:51He wants to protect us by making sure that we have a border.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55The President of the United States of America is one of the most

0:03:55 > 0:03:58important jobs in the world.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01Now, some people say Donald Trump isn't the right leader for America,

0:04:01 > 0:04:07while others say it's time for a new kind of politician.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Now millions of Americans, and people all over the world,

0:04:09 > 0:04:18will be waiting to find out what happens next.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20Some tennis now and Britain's Dan Evans has pulled off

0:04:20 > 0:04:23the biggest win of his career, by beating Marin Cilic

0:04:23 > 0:04:25at the Australian Open.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28Dan struggled early in the match but managed to turn it

0:04:28 > 0:04:30around against Cilic.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32He's now into the third round of the grand slam.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Andy Murray is also through but gave fans a scare

0:04:35 > 0:04:36when he rolled his ankle.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40He says its not too serious though.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43That's all from me but don't forget if you've been hearing words

0:04:43 > 0:04:46like Brexit and single market all over the news then head online

0:04:46 > 0:04:51where I've been trying to break down what they mean for you.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53Newsround's back tomorrow with Martin.

0:04:53 > 0:05:00Bye.
