:00:57. > :01:01.They made the decision because the number of people living
:01:02. > :01:04.in the country was growing too quickly and families were having
:01:05. > :01:09.Because the country was poor back then the government was worried
:01:10. > :01:11.they would not be enough food to go around.
:01:12. > :01:15.But on New Year's Day this year the law changed.
:01:16. > :01:17.Families are now allowed to have a second baby
:01:18. > :01:22.This girl is 12 years old and now thinking
:01:23. > :01:25.about whether she will have a brother or a sister.
:01:26. > :01:30.TRANSLATION: There are three people in my family.
:01:31. > :01:37.I am a so-called one child in the family.
:01:38. > :01:40.Most of my friends and classmates around me are like me.
:01:41. > :01:44.They are the only child in their families.
:01:45. > :01:48.I feel pretty good to be the only child in the family.
:01:49. > :01:51.But personally I would like to have a brother.
:01:52. > :01:54.The government changed the law because there are a lot of elderly
:01:55. > :01:57.people in China and they are worried there will not be enough younger
:01:58. > :02:03.Now lots of mums and dads are thinking about having
:02:04. > :02:08.Because me and my husband were single kids in the family
:02:09. > :02:11.we want our kids to have the experience of having a brother
:02:12. > :02:18.So many children in China might have a brother or sister to share
