0:03:49 > 0:03:51OK, history fans, stick around for this,
0:03:51 > 0:03:54we're heading to Liverpool to see an ancient underground army,
0:03:54 > 0:03:56kept hidden for thousands of years.
0:03:56 > 0:04:00Martin's got this.
0:04:00 > 0:04:05This is the Terracotta Army.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08It was buried deep underground, secretly guarding the tomb
0:04:08 > 0:04:11of China's first Emperor for more than 2,000 years,
0:04:11 > 0:04:16until it was discovered by accident as farmers dug the land.
0:04:16 > 0:04:19The tomb belonged to Emperor Qin Shi Huang,
0:04:19 > 0:04:22the founder of the Chinese Empire, who had many enemies.
0:04:22 > 0:04:24He believed that his full-sized clay soldiers would protect him
0:04:24 > 0:04:26in the next life, after he died.
0:04:26 > 0:04:29Now they've carefully been brought back to the surface and repaired
0:04:29 > 0:04:34for everyone to see.
0:04:34 > 0:04:38But you don't have to go all the way to China to see them.
0:04:38 > 0:04:40Some of them are right here in Liverpool.
0:04:40 > 0:04:44So these kids have been to check them out.
0:04:44 > 0:04:48How long did it take to make the terracotta warriors?
0:04:48 > 0:04:51We don't know exactly how long it took to make one warrior.
0:04:51 > 0:04:53But, as you can see, they are so detailed and elaborate
0:04:53 > 0:04:57that I imagine it would have taken quite some time to make each one.
0:04:57 > 0:04:59Each part of the body was made separately,
0:04:59 > 0:05:02so the legs and feet were made, and they are solid clay -
0:05:02 > 0:05:06because they are so heavy, the base of them had to be quite sturdy.
0:05:06 > 0:05:07Who was the strongest warrior?
0:05:07 > 0:05:08The warriors were obviously the soldiers
0:05:08 > 0:05:11that were ready to fight in battle,
0:05:11 > 0:05:13but in another pit nearby were figures
0:05:13 > 0:05:16that the Emperor had made to entertain him in the afterlife,
0:05:16 > 0:05:19and in that pit were acrobats and strongmen,
0:05:19 > 0:05:22and those strongmen figures had really big muscles,
0:05:22 > 0:05:25so I imagine they were meant to be very strong.
0:05:25 > 0:05:29So what do they make of the army?
0:05:29 > 0:05:31I'm so amazed how big the terracotta warriors are.
0:05:31 > 0:05:35I like how they look, and they've got armour on
0:05:35 > 0:05:36and are really detailed.
0:05:36 > 0:05:38When I imagined what they would look like,
0:05:38 > 0:05:41I wasn't expecting them to be a really big size.
0:05:41 > 0:05:44I think that it's actually pretty impressive
0:05:44 > 0:05:47that they came from China, all the way to Liverpool,
0:05:47 > 0:05:51and that they're still in really good condition.
0:05:51 > 0:05:58That's it from me for now, Newsround's back at 2:15pm.
