0:00:10 > 0:00:13Hello, Jenny here with all the top stories this Thursday.
0:00:13 > 0:00:15Let's get started.
0:00:15 > 0:00:19There's just one day until this man, Donald Trump, officially takes
0:00:19 > 0:00:21over as the President of the United States,
0:00:21 > 0:00:24after winning the American election in November.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27Leah's travelled to Freeland in the state of Pennsylvania,
0:00:27 > 0:00:30which voted for Trump, to find out what kids
0:00:30 > 0:00:35there like about their new leader, and what they hope he'll do.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38This is a foggy Freeland.
0:00:38 > 0:00:43It's a borough in Pennsylvania, home to just a few thousand people.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46Most people in this area chose Donald Trump
0:00:46 > 0:00:49to be their next president.
0:00:49 > 0:00:54And most pupils at this school are Trump fans.
0:00:54 > 0:00:58There's even a student Trump impressionist on hand
0:00:58 > 0:01:00to kick-start the day.
0:01:00 > 0:01:01Good morning.
0:01:01 > 0:01:04This is your President, Donald J Trump.
0:01:04 > 0:01:09Today's lunch is sloppy Joes with side salad.
0:01:09 > 0:01:13Have a good day, God bless and make America great again.
0:01:13 > 0:01:18So why has Trump made such a big impression here?
0:01:18 > 0:01:22I like Donald Trump because I think he's done a lot as a businessman
0:01:22 > 0:01:25and he can do a good amount of things for our country.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28Coal is a big part of Pennsylvania and the North East.
0:01:28 > 0:01:32I guess people like him because he promised
0:01:32 > 0:01:35that he was going to keep those jobs going.
0:01:35 > 0:01:39I like that he is a family guy, because, being, like,
0:01:39 > 0:01:42a politician and, like, having a family is hard to do.
0:01:42 > 0:01:46I hope that maybe he could bring jobs back, because there are so many
0:01:46 > 0:01:50people now who are losing jobs and it's very sad to see people's
0:01:50 > 0:01:52jobs go, like, to other countries.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55Not everyone is a Trump fan, though.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57I don't like Donald Trump because I don't think
0:01:57 > 0:01:58he has enough experience.
0:01:58 > 0:02:00He's really, like, a loudmouth.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03He's not the nicest of people.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05But, at the same time, apart from that,
0:02:05 > 0:02:06you know what he's thinking.
0:02:06 > 0:02:07A nervous feeling.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10You don't know what he's going to do next.
0:02:10 > 0:02:13While Trump came out on top in the election He goes
0:02:13 > 0:02:18into the White House as the most unpopular president in decades.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21He's got into trouble about comments he's made about women,
0:02:21 > 0:02:25using words like "pig, fat or ugly".
0:02:25 > 0:02:27And he's attacked different groups of people, too,
0:02:27 > 0:02:29like Muslims or Mexicans.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31Some people say he's not the right person
0:02:31 > 0:02:33to lead the country because
0:02:33 > 0:02:37he has a habit of lashing out at people he disagrees with.
0:02:37 > 0:02:41He just did all this for attention
0:02:41 > 0:02:47so that once he is inaugurated, he'll settle down a little bit.
0:02:47 > 0:02:51I feel he's like everybody - some people have good days and bad days
0:02:51 > 0:02:57but he's in the spotlight, so his bad days are worse than ours and his
0:02:57 > 0:03:00good days are better than ours.
0:03:00 > 0:03:01I feel if Donald Trump can bring those
0:03:01 > 0:03:06jobs, then all of our towns will be better places.
0:03:06 > 0:03:10I hope that he just makes our country a better country
0:03:10 > 0:03:16and helps stuff go up for our country.
0:03:16 > 0:03:19Next, to the coldest place on planet earth, Antarctica.
0:03:19 > 0:03:21This huge crack has developed in the ice
0:03:21 > 0:03:23there and it's causing some real problems for
0:03:23 > 0:03:25scientists in the area.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28Ayshah has this one.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30It goes on for miles.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33This huge crack deep into the ice has been captured
0:03:33 > 0:03:37by a drone in Antarctica.
0:03:37 > 0:03:40The crack is in an area called the Floating Brunt Ice Shelf,
0:03:40 > 0:03:42and just ten miles from the crack, British scientists are based
0:03:42 > 0:03:46at the Halley Research Station, which is made up of big,
0:03:46 > 0:03:49blue pods, with a big red pod in the middle.
0:03:49 > 0:03:51They've made the decision to move their base,
0:03:51 > 0:03:54because they don't know what will happen to the ice shelf
0:03:54 > 0:03:56in the next few months.
0:03:56 > 0:03:58Luckily the pods are designed to move, with the legs
0:03:58 > 0:04:01fitted onto big skis.
0:04:01 > 0:04:04The next few months are important because the Antarctic winter will be
0:04:04 > 0:04:07starting, and the area will be pitch black for months.
0:04:07 > 0:04:10It also means that it'll be difficult to evacuate people
0:04:10 > 0:04:13from the area in the winter conditions, where temperatures get
0:04:13 > 0:04:17as low as -55 Celsius.
0:04:17 > 0:04:19We've taken the prudent decision that, in the light of this
0:04:19 > 0:04:23new crack, it would be better and the safest thing to do to close
0:04:23 > 0:04:26the station in a controlled way and bring our team home,
0:04:26 > 0:04:29because their safety is paramount to us.
0:04:29 > 0:04:32The British Antarctic Survey also say that cracks in ice
0:04:32 > 0:04:36shelves aren't unusual, but this new crack is growing.
0:04:36 > 0:04:40They plan to go back to the area in November to carry on their work
0:04:40 > 0:04:41when it's summertime again there.
0:04:41 > 0:04:47And until then, they will monitor the crack.
0:04:47 > 0:04:48That's all from the team today.
0:04:48 > 0:04:53I'm back at 7.40am tomorrow morning with all the day's top stories,
0:04:53 > 0:04:55so set your alarms.
0:04:55 > 0:05:00Bye.
