:00:00. > :00:12.Hello, I'm Jenny. You're live with Newsround. We have an action-packed
:00:13. > :00:16.show for you today. Coming up in the next few minutes: There will be no
:00:17. > :00:18.dream gold medal for Eve Muirhead in Sochi, but the men still have a
:00:19. > :00:22.chance. And here at the O2 Arena in London,
:00:23. > :00:28.we're gearing up for a massive night of showbiz. It's the biggest night
:00:29. > :00:31.in British music, the Brit Awards. First though, we're heading to
:00:32. > :00:34.Ukraine in eastern Europe where clashes continue in the capital city
:00:35. > :00:36.Kiev between the police and protesters who want the country's
:00:37. > :00:39.president to leave. The demonstrations began three months
:00:40. > :00:44.ago, but last night the violence got a lot worse. Riot police fired
:00:45. > :00:47.explosives, trying to drive people out of the main protest camp. But
:00:48. > :00:52.protesters fought back throwing bricks, bottles and stones.
:00:53. > :00:55.Officials say at least 26 people have died and hundreds were injured
:00:56. > :00:59.in these latest clashes and the stand-off continues today. Leaders
:01:00. > :01:05.in Europe and across the world are calling for Ukraine's government to
:01:06. > :01:09.act now to end the violence. So what has caused this? Ukraine is
:01:10. > :01:12.a country divided over whether it should be closer to Europe or
:01:13. > :01:16.Russia. Many Ukrainians, including the country's president, want to
:01:17. > :01:21.remain close to Russia. So why do they think that's a good idea?
:01:22. > :01:24.Russia has given lots of money to Ukraine. And cheap gas, which is
:01:25. > :01:28.used for energy. There's history here too. Ukraine was once together
:01:29. > :01:31.with Russia as part of the Soviet Union, and many people there still
:01:32. > :01:36.speak Russian. But lots of other Ukrainians want closer ties to the
:01:37. > :01:40.European Union. The big reasons are: It could mean more money as it will
:01:41. > :01:43.be easier to trade with countries in Europe, The European Union has rules
:01:44. > :01:46.which say that all people must be treated fairly, They want to break
:01:47. > :01:51.the country's old ties with Russia for a new future with Europe.
:01:52. > :01:54.Next to Sochi. We've all been watching in the Newsround office but
:01:55. > :01:58.there'll be no gold medal for Eve Muirhead's women in the curling,
:01:59. > :02:00.after they lost their semifinal to a dominant Canada. Team GB just
:02:01. > :02:04.couldn't catch up with the Canadians, who remain unbeaten at
:02:05. > :02:08.the Games so far and are hot favourites for the gold medal.
:02:09. > :02:11.There's still a chance of a bronze medal though if they beat
:02:12. > :02:16.Switzerland in a play-off on Thursday.
:02:17. > :02:19.So let's see how the men are getting on in their semifinal. These are the
:02:20. > :02:23.live pictures. Dave Murdoch's gang are playing Sweden who beat them 8-4
:02:24. > :02:27.in the round-robin stage, but as you see now, it's pretty close. It's 2-1
:02:28. > :02:31.to Sweden at the halfway stage. Come on guys!
:02:32. > :02:34.In the Champions League tonight, Arsenal have a massive challenge as
:02:35. > :02:38.they take on reigning champions Bayern Munich. England star Jack
:02:39. > :02:41.Wilshere could be back for the Gunners, who've failed to make it
:02:42. > :02:45.past the first knockout stage for three years running. But the mighty
:02:46. > :02:50.Bayern have lost only once in 35 matches!
:02:51. > :02:53.Well, tonight we can't stop dancing to the best awards ever. Yes, the
:02:54. > :02:58.Brit Awards extravaganza kicks off in a few hours time, so we just had
:02:59. > :03:09.to be there. And our presenter on the red carpet is Ayshah! Hi Jenny.
:03:10. > :03:14.Welcome to the Brit Awards here in London! Some of music's biggest
:03:15. > :03:16.names will be arriving soon. At the moment all the press and
:03:17. > :03:20.photographers are busy setting up but this is where we'll be to get
:03:21. > :03:27.interviews with some of your favourite stars as they arrive. OK,
:03:28. > :03:31.it's fair to say that last year's awards got some criticism for being
:03:32. > :03:36.a bit boring, so who are we expecting to see tonight? There's no
:03:37. > :03:39.shortage of big names this time. Of course, being the Brits, there's
:03:40. > :03:44.loads of big British names like Bastille, One Direction, Jessie J,
:03:45. > :03:50.Ellie Goulding and Rudimental. But there'll be international glamour
:03:51. > :03:53.too: Katy Perry and Pharell Williams will both perform tonight. And we're
:03:54. > :03:58.hearing rumours that none other than Beyonce may make an appearance too!
:03:59. > :04:03.Who's tipped to win big tonight then? We hear it could be a big
:04:04. > :04:06.night for Ellie Goulding. Yes, Ellie Goulding is the favourite to win
:04:07. > :04:12.British female while the Arctic Monkeys are hotly tipped to win both
:04:13. > :04:16.British group and British album. And the One Direction boys look dead
:04:17. > :04:19.certs to take home the award for British video if the Directioners
:04:20. > :04:25.have their say. The winner's decided by a public vote on Twitter tonight.
:04:26. > :04:28.The awards start at 8pm on ITV and for the first time they're being
:04:29. > :04:32.streamed live online as well. I'll be back at 6.50pm here on the red
:04:33. > :04:35.carpet with the latest. And last up, some ultra-cute
:04:36. > :04:38.pictures from Indonesia, where a safari park has welcomed a new
:04:39. > :04:42.arrival. This is Dana the orangutan, enjoying a cuddle with his mum,
:04:43. > :04:49.Dina. He's her third baby and brings the park's total to 25. Orangutans
:04:50. > :04:51.are considered endangered in the wild, because their natural
:04:52. > :04:56.rainforest habitat is being turned into farmland.
:04:57. > :04:59.Just before we go, head online for the amazing story of how reindeer in
:05:00. > :05:01.Finland are being given glow-in-the-dark antlers to try and
:05:02. > :05:02.help protect them
