:00:00. > :00:11.Hi, welcome to Newsround. Today sees the stars from the world
:00:12. > :00:15.of pop do battle for a Brit. And tapeworms, leeches and head lice
:00:16. > :00:25.- we meet the TV doctor who's infested himself with all of them!
:00:26. > :00:27.First, we're going to Ukraine in eastern Europe, where violent
:00:28. > :00:29.clashes have been going on overnight in the capital Kiev between police
:00:30. > :00:33.and anti-government protesters. Riot police have been firing explosives,
:00:34. > :00:36.trying to evict people from the main protest camp, which has been in
:00:37. > :00:43.place since unrest began nearly three months ago. But protesters
:00:44. > :00:47.have been fighting back against the police - at least 25 people have
:00:48. > :00:50.died in this latest violence. The crisis started over whether Ukraine
:00:51. > :00:55.should have closer ties with the European Union or with Russia.
:00:56. > :00:59.Next, if you're like me, then last summer - the hottest for many years
:01:00. > :01:04.- will seem like a long time ago. But here's a bit of good news. New
:01:05. > :01:07.research out today suggests that last year's good weather was good
:01:08. > :01:10.news for Britain's farmland butterflies. The Wider Countryside
:01:11. > :01:15.Butterfly Survey recorded almost double the number of insects
:01:16. > :01:22.compared with 2012. The report says that sunny weather provided perfect
:01:23. > :01:26.breeding conditions for butterflies. Well, today is one of the biggest
:01:27. > :01:33.dates in the calendar for British music, the BRIT Awards. Loads of big
:01:34. > :01:37.stars from the world of pop will be at London O2's Arena, hoping to bag
:01:38. > :01:41.a Brit. The likes of Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Rudimental and Lorde are
:01:42. > :01:44.just some of those battling it out. And this afternoon, our very own
:01:45. > :01:48.Ayshah will be down live on the red carpet bringing you all the latest.
:01:49. > :01:52.Next up - leeches, tapeworms and head lice. Not the nicest companions
:01:53. > :01:55.for most of us, but one TV doctor's decided to get a lot more closely
:01:56. > :01:58.acquinted with them all! This is Dr Michael Mosley, a man prepared to
:01:59. > :02:03.put his body through almost anything, all in the name of
:02:04. > :02:07.science. In a new BBC documentary, he infests himself with a bunch of
:02:08. > :02:12.gruesome parasites to see how they affect the human body. Jenny has
:02:13. > :02:14.this one. Bloodsucking leeches, stomach
:02:15. > :02:21.turning tapeworms and infectious head lice. Not the sort of thing you
:02:22. > :02:28.would choose to have wriggling around your body if you could help
:02:29. > :02:32.it. Unless you are this doctor! I had a go with various different
:02:33. > :02:38.parasites. I started off with tapeworm. It was a little bit
:02:39. > :02:42.disgusting, I have to say. They were like jelly babies but not very
:02:43. > :02:48.sweet. Then I swallowed this camera with a glass of water. It sends
:02:49. > :02:56.pictures to a transmitter and from there to a screen. So you can
:02:57. > :03:08.actually see your stomach live. That is it! That is the tapeworm. You can
:03:09. > :03:14.see it. God, that is horrible. Next up, leeches. I basically attached
:03:15. > :03:18.back to my arm and it started to suck. It was actually quite pleasant
:03:19. > :03:30.and it grew about eight times the size it was. It drank quite a lot of
:03:31. > :03:40.blood and then it dropped off. They make nice pets. My daughter took my
:03:41. > :03:44.leech and unfortunately it escaped after a few months and was eaten by
:03:45. > :03:47.the cat. Doctor Michael says he is doing this to help scientists at
:03:48. > :03:50.Salford University in their research into parasites and the diseases they
:03:51. > :03:53.spread. So, after that, what did they learn? The message for me is
:03:54. > :03:58.parasites are genius and fascinating. And a little bit
:03:59. > :04:02.disgusting. It was a bad night for Manchester
:04:03. > :04:05.City in the Champions League as they lost 2-0 at home to Barcelona.
:04:06. > :04:11.Tonight, Arsenal take on reigning champions Bayern Munich. Gunners
:04:12. > :04:15.boss Arsene Wenger has seen his side go out in the first knockout round
:04:16. > :04:22.in the last three seasons. He's been weighing up his team's chances. We
:04:23. > :04:30.know that we face the favourite of the competition and what we have is
:04:31. > :04:34.believed, because on the opposite, we've had many big aims in the
:04:35. > :04:39.champions league and the FA Cup, we played against Tottenham and
:04:40. > :04:43.Liverpool. We know that in every single game, we have absolutely to
:04:44. > :04:46.be 100%. Winter sports now, and it's a big
:04:47. > :04:50.day in the curling, and an even bigger day for Team GB, with both
:04:51. > :04:54.the men and woman's sides playing for a place in the final. Eve
:04:55. > :04:57.Muirhead and co go up against Canada at 10am, whilst the men's side take
:04:58. > :05:01.on Sweden at three o'clock this afternoon.
