:00:00. > :00:09.Hi, Leah here. Stick with Newsround to hear all about the latest rocket

:00:10. > :00:12.launch to the International Space Station. And keep watching to see

:00:13. > :00:14.more of these amazing sand sculptures that have popped up on

:00:15. > :00:23.the South West coast of England. But first a big rescue operation is

:00:24. > :00:29.underway on Mount Everest after an avalanche struck yesterday. Thirteen

:00:30. > :00:34.local guides known as sherpas were killed and three are still missing.

:00:35. > :00:37.The sherpas job is very dangerous but without them hundreds of people

:00:38. > :00:41.wouldn't be able to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain.

:00:42. > :00:49.Everest. One of the toughest challenges for any human being. It's

:00:50. > :00:52.also one of the most dangerous. And making it to the top wouldn't be

:00:53. > :00:57.possible without help from sherpas, local people who are highly skilled

:00:58. > :01:02.climbers. They know the mountain and its terrain very well and act as

:01:03. > :01:07.guides to ensure climbers' safety. They carry kit, cook food and travel

:01:08. > :01:10.ahead to prepare routes. Climbing the mountain can be very dangerous

:01:11. > :01:16.because of narrow cracks and unstable rocks. There's also the

:01:17. > :01:20.lack of oxygen the higher you go. On Friday morning, a team of sherpas

:01:21. > :01:24.went ahead of a group of mountaineers to check out the safest

:01:25. > :01:27.way up the mountain and to fix ropes for the climbers. But an avalanche

:01:28. > :01:33.struck just above Everest base camp, an area where people prepare before

:01:34. > :01:36.heading to the summit. 13 sherpas lost their lives and three guides

:01:37. > :01:41.are still missing, making it the deadliest accident on the world's

:01:42. > :01:44.highest mountain. Each year, more and more people are climbing Everest

:01:45. > :01:46.and there's concern that more trips are putting the lives of sherpas at

:01:47. > :01:53.greater risk each time. And if you're upset by anything you

:01:54. > :02:00.see on the news there's help and advice over on the Newsround

:02:01. > :02:03.website. A private company in the United States has launched its

:02:04. > :02:14.latest supply mission to the International Space Station. Space

:02:15. > :02:18.X's Falcon-Nine rocket took off from Florida last night. The capsule is

:02:19. > :02:22.carrying just over two tonnes of food, equipment and science

:02:23. > :02:25.experiments. It's the third re-supply mission the firm has

:02:26. > :02:28.launched as part of a multi-million pound deal with NASA and is expected

:02:29. > :02:34.to dock with the space station tomorrow. Ronnie O'Sullivan has got

:02:35. > :02:37.off to an impressive start in snooker's world championship in

:02:38. > :02:43.Sheffield. He hit a break of 124 during his game against Robin Hull

:02:44. > :02:47.which he currently leads. But he's not the only one whose handy with

:02:48. > :02:50.his cue because for the last year, snookers world governing body has

:02:51. > :02:54.been taking a new version of the sport into schools. It's called

:02:55. > :02:59.functional snooker and the aim is to use the game to improve basic maths

:03:00. > :03:08.skills. The BBC's Mike Bushell gave it a go.

:03:09. > :03:13.Maths lessons. For many of us, they leave us scratching our heads.

:03:14. > :03:22.Imagine if that lesson contains sport. A new form of snooker. For

:03:23. > :03:29.10,000 students over the last year, cues have replaced books. Functional

:03:30. > :03:35.snooker started a year ago as part of a project run by snooker's

:03:36. > :03:42.governing body. Steve Davis has been sent in to demonstrate. We ramped up

:03:43. > :03:52.the maths. It can be changed to the level of abilities. Each ball has a

:03:53. > :03:53.number. The colours have multiplication, subtraction,

:03:54. > :04:14.addition and minus symbols on them. You lose six points if you pot the

:04:15. > :04:18.pink. That takes six points off your score. This drive into schools will

:04:19. > :04:27.hopefully spread the sport with young players as well. It is a lot

:04:28. > :04:38.of fun. It has helped me with my maths skills. I believe my potting

:04:39. > :04:47.got worse. My punishment was to be an assistant for a trick shot.

:04:48. > :04:52.Formula One news now and if you don't want to know who qualified in

:04:53. > :04:57.pole position for tomorrow's Chinese Grand Prix, turn down your TV and

:04:58. > :05:01.look away now! Britain's Lewis Hamilton has taken pole for the

:05:02. > :05:03.third time in four races after a very wet qualifying session in

:05:04. > :05:07.Shanghai. Hamilton was more than half a second faster than Red Bull's

:05:08. > :05:10.Daniel Ricciardo who managed second, ahead of team mate and reigning

:05:11. > :05:15.world champ Sebastian Vettel who qualified third. Full highlights of

:05:16. > :05:22.qualifying are over on BBC One right now! Now if you're heading to the

:05:23. > :05:25.beach this weekend here's a challenge for you. Could you create

:05:26. > :05:28.a sand masterpiece like this? About 5,000 tonnes of beach sand was used

:05:29. > :05:31.for these creations at the Weston-super-Mare sand sculpture

:05:32. > :05:36.festival. This year's sculptures have a Once Upon a Time theme and

:05:37. > :05:42.include works from The Hobbit. The sand show is due to run until

:05:43. > :05:45.October. Finally, from egg hunting to visiting family and friends loads
