:00:00. > :00:08.You're watching Newsround with Monday's mix of stories. I'm Ricky.
:00:09. > :00:15.On the way. Do you know what energy drinks do to your body? Is this the
:00:16. > :00:22.most exciting space mission of 2014? Can we land on a speeding comet?
:00:23. > :00:28.First to a big problem for those trying to bring peace to Syria. A
:00:29. > :00:31.civil war has been raging there for nearly three years between
:00:32. > :00:34.government forces and the people who want them out of power. Many
:00:35. > :00:38.thousands have been killed, and millions more fled the country. Now,
:00:39. > :00:41.the main group against the Syrian government have said they won't join
:00:42. > :00:45.in peace talks, because they're unhappy that the UN has invited Iran
:00:46. > :00:48.too. Iran has supported Syria's government in the war, providing
:00:49. > :00:51.weapons to President Assad's forces, but the UN wanted Iran to be part of
:00:52. > :00:59.the solution. Next, we're talking energy drinks,
:01:00. > :01:02.soft drinks with very high levels of caffeine and sugar. A Government
:01:03. > :01:05.advisor on school meals has said they're harmful to kids and
:01:06. > :01:07.shouldn't be allowed in schools. You've been chatting about this on
:01:08. > :01:15.the website. Caitlin in Warrington reckons they
:01:16. > :01:18.shouldn't be banned, saying they keep you awake, so you're more
:01:19. > :01:22.likely to pay attention. But Luke in Clevedon doesn't like them, because
:01:23. > :01:26.he says they make him aggressive and give him headaches.
:01:27. > :01:31.Energy drinks, high in sugar and high in caffeine, but also not
:01:32. > :01:34.suitable for children. A government adviser on healthy school meals is
:01:35. > :01:39.worried more kids are drinking them regularly. It could be doing them
:01:40. > :01:43.harm. It has a hugely damaging effect on their ability to
:01:44. > :01:50.concentrate, how they feel, and it is having health effects. But what
:01:51. > :01:56.does it do to your body? It can raise BP, heart rate, affect sleep
:01:57. > :02:04.patterns, and also affect rain development. They are classed as
:02:05. > :02:12.addictive, they should not be used in children's drinks at all. Are you
:02:13. > :02:17.concerned? I do not drink them, but I am an athlete, so to get ready for
:02:18. > :02:25.a race, I would have a set of one. I would not be drinking them all of
:02:26. > :02:31.the time. The shops are to blame, they sell them. I am worried about a
:02:32. > :02:38.friend, they drink and energy drink everyday. I do not think it is
:02:39. > :02:42.healthy. The British Soft Drinks Association say hi caffeine and high
:02:43. > :02:48.sugar are not suitable for drinks -- for children. But kids are still
:02:49. > :02:49.drinking them, and health experts warn more needs to be done to stop
:02:50. > :02:53.them. Next to one of the most daring space
:02:54. > :02:56.missions ever attempted, landing on a comet. A European spacecraft
:02:57. > :03:00.that's been asleep in space for two and a half years is being woken up
:03:01. > :03:04.today to embark on its daunting task.
:03:05. > :03:08.A comet. It's a massive lump of ice and rock that's hurtling through
:03:09. > :03:12.space. And scientists are hoping to land on one. That job is down to the
:03:13. > :03:16.Rosetta spacecraft, which was launched back in 2004. It's
:03:17. > :03:19.travelled hundreds of millions of kilometres through our solar system,
:03:20. > :03:25.but has been hibernating for the past two and a half years to save
:03:26. > :03:29.energy. This morning, an alarm clock was triggered to wake up Rosetta for
:03:30. > :03:33.the final, and riskiest, part of its mission. It has to chase after Comet
:03:34. > :03:40.67P, a target of just four kilometres across, and then send out
:03:41. > :03:49.a robot to land on its icy surface. It's something that has never been
:03:50. > :03:54.tried before. One of the big questions is where the Earth got its
:03:55. > :03:57.water from. In this comet, we have a fragment of something that formed
:03:58. > :04:00.four and a half billion years ago, and it might tell us the sorts of
:04:01. > :04:07.things that delivered water to the Earth. We can test that idea that
:04:08. > :04:13.comets might have been a source of the Earth's water. The first signal
:04:14. > :04:16.should be received this evening. Until then, a lot of nervous
:04:17. > :04:21.scientists watching and waiting for a sign.
:04:22. > :04:24.Andy Murray is through to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open
:04:25. > :04:27.after overcoming France's Stephane Robert in four sets. He'll face the
:04:28. > :04:30.mighty Roger Federer next. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal made it
:04:31. > :04:34.through in straight sets, but there was a big shock in the women's draw,
:04:35. > :04:38.as Maria Sharapova was beaten by Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova.
:04:39. > :04:41.And, as always, there's plenty on the website, including a brilliant
:04:42. > :04:45.gallery of a guy who's best mates with a Bengal tiger. And, check out
:04:46. > :04:48.our amazing interview with Lewis Clarke, the 16-year-old who's just
:04:49. > :04:53.become the youngest person to make it to the South Pole on foot!
:04:54. > :04:56.That's all from me. Newsround's back right here at 6:50pm with another
:04:57. > :04:59.update. See you then.
