:00:24. > :00:28.Good afternoon friends. Hello. You've got Joe and Leah here

:00:28. > :00:33.tonight. Stayed tuned because some of this is on its way. The soldiers

:00:34. > :00:37.using helmet cams to record life on the front line. And, X Factor's

:00:37. > :00:43.back. Last year's winners tell Nel why you should always listen to

:00:44. > :00:46.your mum. But first to stiffer punishments for dangerous dog

:00:46. > :00:50.owners. From today, anyone in England and Wales who doesn't

:00:50. > :00:53.control their pet in public could face up to 18 months behind bars.

:00:53. > :00:56.Last year more than 6,000 people ended up in hospital in England

:00:56. > :00:59.after being bitten by dogs and the biggest victims were children under

:00:59. > :01:06.ten. So will the new guidelines on prison sentences keep dangerous

:01:06. > :01:10.pets under control? I've been finding out. There's about eight

:01:10. > :01:14.million pet dogs in the UK and most of the time if they're looked after

:01:14. > :01:21.properly they're a big part of our families. But that's not always the

:01:21. > :01:25.case. Sometimes dogs can get out of control. Last year the number of

:01:25. > :01:28.people attacked by dogs went up in England. Up till now there were no

:01:28. > :01:31.guidelines for judges sentencing owners of dangerous dogs. Now

:01:31. > :01:35.guidelines have been introduced and it should mean tougher punishments

:01:35. > :01:38.and more people going to prison. Owners who let their dogs hurt

:01:38. > :01:47.people in public will face six months behind bars and that could

:01:47. > :01:51.go up to 18 months in more serious cases. Do you think the new rules

:01:52. > :01:57.go far enough? We welcome them. They're a step in the right

:01:57. > :02:02.direction and it's a good idea that anybody who has a dog that's out of

:02:02. > :02:06.control can face stiffer sentences, but we would like to see further

:02:06. > :02:12.measures put in place. Responsible dog ownership has to be the way to

:02:12. > :02:22.go. If you know your dog has issues with other animals or gets nervous,

:02:22. > :02:29.

:02:29. > :02:32.you must keep it on a lead. I grew up with pet dogs around the house

:02:32. > :02:35.and this is our latest edition - Pebbles. I've been lucky enough to

:02:35. > :02:39.only have good experiences with dogs. But that's not the same for

:02:39. > :02:42.everyone. The best advice is if you don't know a dog, then it's best

:02:42. > :02:46.not to go near it. Good advice. Most dogs aren't dangerous, but if

:02:46. > :02:49.you do want tips on how to stay safe around them, head over to the

:02:49. > :02:52.Newsround website. Lots of helpful advice including what to do if you

:02:52. > :02:55.think a dog might be aggressive. The Duke of Edinburgh has been

:02:55. > :02:58.allowed to go home after spending five nights in hospital in Scotland.

:02:58. > :03:01.The Queen's husband thanked doctors and nurses who had helped treat him

:03:01. > :03:07.for an infection. It's the third time in nine months that the Duke,

:03:07. > :03:10.who's 91, has been in hospital. England are playing South Africa at

:03:10. > :03:18.Lord's and they have to win to remain the number one Test side,

:03:18. > :03:23.but it's not looking good. The score was 293-8. They need a total

:03:23. > :03:25.of 346 runs to win. Lots of work to do there. Next to Afghanistan, and

:03:25. > :03:28.some of the most dramatic home video footage you've probably even

:03:28. > :03:30.seen. Two years ago British soldiers involved in some of the

:03:30. > :03:33.fiercest fighting in Helmand Province decided to attach cameras

:03:33. > :03:37.to their helmets. British troops have been in the country for more

:03:37. > :03:40.than ten years, but this footage shows what life was like on the

:03:40. > :03:43.front line like never before. Now the videos are being turned into a

:03:43. > :03:53.television series called Our War. I caught up with two soldiers who

:03:53. > :03:57.were involved with the project. In 2010 the 2nd Battalion, Duke of

:03:57. > :04:03.Lancaster's Regiment was sent to one of the most dangerous areas of

:04:03. > :04:08.Helmand. They were trying to stop the Taliban. The regiment headed to

:04:08. > :04:12.a Taliban stronghold, fighting them on their own territory. The Taliban

:04:12. > :04:16.were really surprised how cheeky we were to go right into their area.

:04:16. > :04:20.When they established where we were, they really came for us. They would

:04:20. > :04:25.fire from one direction and see our reaction and move to another and

:04:25. > :04:28.fire from there and they took us on all day from different angles and

:04:29. > :04:33.exposed any weaknesses. They were very, very good fighters. What goes

:04:33. > :04:36.through your head? Are you scared? Yeah. Anybody who says they're not

:04:37. > :04:40.is a liar. There's a mixture of excitement and fear and you are

:04:40. > :04:46.walking into the unknown, but it's really exciting. Looking back, does

:04:46. > :04:50.it feel real to watch it back now, now you are perfectly safe and over

:04:50. > :04:53.here? It brings lots of memories and a lot of sad points, because

:04:53. > :04:57.two of our friends were killed and three wounded, but some of the good

:04:57. > :05:00.times and memories and it is good to reminisce and remember all the

:05:00. > :05:04.things we did in Afghanistan. you think the work you are doing

:05:04. > :05:09.over there is worth the lives of the men being lost? We are

:05:09. > :05:19.definitely improving Afghanistan. We completed the road for vital

:05:19. > :05:26.links and improved the locals' lives. The Curiosity Rover has

:05:26. > :05:32.zapped his first rock from Mars. It zapped a piece of rock the size of

:05:32. > :05:36.a tennis ball. Scientists hope that by zapping the rock they'll be able

:05:36. > :05:40.to figure out what minerals they're made of. Exciting. It's that time

:05:40. > :05:43.of year again and the X Factor is back on our telly. But did you

:05:43. > :05:45.bother to watch? More than eight million people tuned in for the

:05:45. > :05:48.opening show, but that's two million down on last year. But

:05:48. > :05:52.what's life been like for last year's winners Little Mix? Nel went

:05:52. > :06:02.to meet the girls to find out. Look out for the flash photography in

:06:02. > :06:05.

:06:05. > :06:11.this one. The winner of the X Factor 2011 - LittlAlism. Now you

:06:11. > :06:21.are the first and only girl group to ever have won X Factor. What's

:06:21. > :06:25.your secret? I think the secret is just to work very hard. We were

:06:25. > :06:30.just rehearsing 24/7. That was a factor and we are normal girls and

:06:30. > :06:34.everyone got to see that and how close we were at friends.

:06:34. > :06:40.relationship with Tulisa helped, because that was real and she

:06:40. > :06:44.really did want us to do well. you feel like it's not a golden

:06:44. > :06:49.ticket and it's not a free ride and you have to work your way? Loads of

:06:49. > :06:52.people have won it and come out loving it and done one single and

:06:52. > :06:55.crashed out. It gives you a platform and it's getting you

:06:55. > :06:59.started off, but you have to work for it. You can't just think that

:06:59. > :07:03.everything will be given to you and everything will work out, because

:07:03. > :07:07.it isn't. Everyone is your competition in this industry. You

:07:07. > :07:17.have to work really hard to be where you want to be. You've got a

:07:17. > :07:21.

:07:21. > :07:25.new single out? We have. # It's a happy, fun song, about

:07:25. > :07:31.believing in yourself and listening to your mum, because your mum knows

:07:31. > :07:35.best. How much influence does Simon Cowell have in terms of your image

:07:35. > :07:39.and style and songs? Is he quite involved in it? He's really

:07:39. > :07:44.involved. He always gets the final say on everything, so if he didn't

:07:44. > :07:51.like Wings it wouldn't have been our single. It's a good job old

:07:51. > :08:01.Cowell did like it. We've been asking you if you'll be watching

:08:01. > :08:22.

:08:22. > :08:25.Finally we've had some strange weather this summer, but take a

:08:25. > :08:28.look at this for strange goings on. Unusual conditions on Lake Michigan

:08:28. > :08:31.in America led to these water spouts. They're caused when cold

:08:31. > :08:37.and warm air come together. There were nine reported in total, but

:08:37. > :08:41.it's rare to see so many of them in the same place. This story has

:08:41. > :08:46.caused a stir in Australia. A group of people were unhappy about a lack

:08:46. > :08:51.of toilets on a beach, so they went to the loo on the beach. They got
