:00:18. > :00:22.Hello. Tonight, one of the world's most wanted men has been captured

:00:22. > :00:26.and killed in Libya. Over the next eight minutes, we will bring you

:00:26. > :00:31.the latest details on the death of Colonel Gaddafi. Also: Wales get

:00:31. > :00:38.ready to fight for their third place at the Rugby World Cup.

:00:38. > :00:42.as Westlife call it a day, we look at boybands through the years.

:00:42. > :00:46.So, our top story: In the last couple of hours, the world has been

:00:46. > :00:50.told that Colonel Gaddafi, who led Libya for over 40 years and was

:00:50. > :00:54.overthrown in August, has been caught and killed. As soon as the

:00:54. > :00:58.news came out, thousands of people came out on to the streets,

:00:58. > :01:04.chanting and waving flags. These are the latest pictures from Libya.

:01:04. > :01:10.As you can see, Libyans out on the streets celebrating the end of

:01:10. > :01:13.Gaddafi's dictatorship. Joining us now is BBC World affairs reporter,

:01:13. > :01:17.Mark Doyle. You have met Colonel Gaddafi yourself. Talk us through

:01:17. > :01:20.what's been happening today? What happened today is that all of these

:01:20. > :01:25.people who have been demonstrating against Colonel Gaddafi's

:01:25. > :01:31.dictatorship - he ruled without their being elections - so he ruled

:01:31. > :01:36.with him and his family only. He was cornered by the fighters in a

:01:36. > :01:41.town called Sirte, which is in northern Libya. For those people

:01:41. > :01:45.who don't know where Libya is, let's have a look at a map. This is

:01:45. > :01:51.where it is in relation to the UK. That is Libya. Tripoli, the capital,

:01:51. > :01:58.is on the coast. He was found in Sirte, his hometown. That's right.

:01:58. > :02:02.What this means is that because these demonstrators, anti-Gaddafi

:02:02. > :02:05.fighters have captured Sirte, or they control almost all of Sirte.

:02:05. > :02:09.They say they have captured and killed Colonel Gaddafi as well.

:02:09. > :02:14.This means the anti-Gaddafi forces control the whole of Libya. It has

:02:14. > :02:19.taken nine months now. They have been showing pictures of the body

:02:19. > :02:22.of Colonel Gaddafi. I have met him personally. It does look like him.

:02:22. > :02:27.Thank you. Let's remind ourselves what's been happening in Libya over

:02:27. > :02:32.the last few months. For thousands of Libyans, the

:02:32. > :02:41.nightmare is over. The sound of car horns beeping, people cheering and

:02:41. > :02:45.celebratory gunshots in the air are filling the streets. Colonel

:02:45. > :02:50.Gaddafi had been wanted since February. He went into hiding after

:02:50. > :02:56.a large group of protesters decided that they were sick of how he was

:02:56. > :03:00.running the country and wanted to do it themselves. Things soon

:03:00. > :03:04.turned violent. British planes were sent in along with those from other

:03:04. > :03:08.countries to support the rebels and try and stop ordinary people being

:03:08. > :03:13.killed. The rebel group took control of many large Libyan towns

:03:13. > :03:17.and cities but Gaddafi's forces fought back, hard. Many on both

:03:17. > :03:21.sides died. But today it looks like it is all over for the forces loyal

:03:21. > :03:27.to Gaddafi. We are being told their leader was found in a hole in his

:03:27. > :03:32.hometown of Sirte. He was captured and died from his injuries. People

:03:32. > :03:36.in Libya today have an even greater chance after this news of building

:03:36. > :03:41.themselves a strong and democratic future. I'm proud of the role that

:03:41. > :03:45.Britain has played in helping them to bring that about. I pay tribute

:03:45. > :03:50.to the bravery of the Libyans who have helped to liberate their

:03:50. > :03:54.country. Many Libyans had wanted Gaddafi caught alive. They had

:03:54. > :03:59.hoped that one day he would face trial for the attacks he ordered on

:03:59. > :04:03.his own people, but now that day will never come.

:04:03. > :04:08.Libyans have been waiting for this moment for quite a while. What kind

:04:08. > :04:13.of a big deal does this mean for them? What it means for Libyans, we

:04:13. > :04:17.hope, is that they will build a free and democratic society. Now,

:04:17. > :04:23.it's not certain that is going to happen. Libya is quite a rich

:04:23. > :04:28.country. It's got lots of oil and quite well educated people, lots of

:04:29. > :04:34.exiles, some of them came here, a lot of those will be going back now

:04:34. > :04:41.- doctors, professionals and so on. They will want to create a new and

:04:41. > :04:47.free country. So it's a chance for them to start afresh? It is. Libya

:04:47. > :04:53.has a lot of chances. Partly because it's got so much oil money.

:04:53. > :04:58.It could become a fantastic tourism destination. It seems unlikely now.

:04:58. > :05:02.It does have Roman ruins, fantastic beaches. It has a chance now to

:05:02. > :05:08.move forward. 40 years of dictatorship is a long time. Thank

:05:08. > :05:12.you. Cheers. Now let's bring you an update from Dale Farm in Essex. We

:05:12. > :05:17.are hearing that after two days of clashes, the police trying to clear

:05:17. > :05:22.the site, the final residents have now left. We will have more details

:05:22. > :05:26.on that story for you on the Newsround website.

:05:26. > :05:29.Sport: They may not have made it to the World Cup final, but Wales

:05:29. > :05:34.could still get a medal if things go their way tomorrow morning.

:05:34. > :05:38.meet Australia in the third and fourth place play-off. Whatever the

:05:38. > :05:42.result, they are through to the next World Cup. Gethin Jenkins will

:05:42. > :05:46.step up as captain after Sam Warburton was sent off in the

:05:46. > :05:51.semifinal. The final is on Sunday with New

:05:51. > :05:54.Zealand taking on France. Now, they are one of the most

:05:54. > :05:59.successful boybands ever. But after 14 years Westlife are calling it a

:05:59. > :06:04.day, but not until they have released another album and been on

:06:04. > :06:10.tour. They have had 14 number ones. They are not the first ones to do

:06:10. > :06:15.that. Our obsession with boybands goes way back. His obsession!

:06:15. > :06:19.regular guys from Ireland turned international superstars. Westlife

:06:19. > :06:24.were record-breakers. Their first seven singles went to number one.

:06:24. > :06:29.Over the last decade-and-a-half, they have sold records in their

:06:29. > :06:33.bucket-loads. Last night their manager announced the end of an era.

:06:33. > :06:37.Probably the best people I have ever worked with. Hard-working,

:06:37. > :06:41.great songs and good singers. They still have it all. They want to

:06:41. > :06:46.leave on top. Westlife are one boyband to have come and gone over

:06:46. > :06:50.the years. In the '60s, Beatlemania went global. Every time the Beatles

:06:50. > :06:55.performed hundreds of screaming girls turned out to see them. Then

:06:55. > :07:00.came these guys, the Bay City Rollers. They loved tartan and for

:07:00. > :07:04.a while they were massive. Take That rocked up a few years later.

:07:04. > :07:09.They had loads of fans. But when Robbie left, things weren't the

:07:09. > :07:15.same. A year later, they split up. But they got back together and are

:07:15. > :07:20.now bigger than ever. Loads of other groups followed including

:07:20. > :07:24.Boyzone. That's not the end of the story. TV talent shows are keeping

:07:24. > :07:29.boybands going strong. JLS were on the show and they have had two

:07:29. > :07:33.number ones. These are the new kids on the block, The Wanted and One

:07:33. > :07:37.Direction. They both topped the charts and this weekend The Wanted

:07:37. > :07:41.are hoping to bag their third. Westlife fans might be feeling a

:07:41. > :07:44.bit tearful today, but luckily there are lots of other bands to

:07:45. > :07:48.choose from. That is all we have time for. If you want to find out
