:00:51. > :00:56.Now today is a very important day for Newsround. We're saying goodbye
:00:56. > :00:59.to BBC One. Don't worry, Newsround will still bring you the news every
:00:59. > :01:09.day on the CBBC Channel. But after 40 years, we're leaving the BBC's
:01:09. > :01:09.
:01:10. > :01:14.flagship channel. Here's Ricky to BBC One, the home of some of your
:01:14. > :01:19.favourite shows. It has been home of Newsround for 40 years. Tonight
:01:19. > :01:24.it is leaving BBC One to focus on the CBBC channel. On Friday, the
:01:24. > :01:28.other programmes will join us. When the BBC first created a slot for
:01:28. > :01:34.children's programmes, there were only four TV channels, but the
:01:34. > :01:39.arrival of digital TV meant lots more choice. In 2002, CBBC got its
:01:39. > :01:43.own channel. We have been bringing you the news on it ever since. By
:01:43. > :01:52.the time it was 10 years old, 1.8 million children were tuning in
:01:52. > :02:00.every week. Fewer children were tuning in to BBC One. Five times
:02:00. > :02:07.more children watch it on CBBC than BBC One. Most children watch it on
:02:07. > :02:12.the CBBC channels. Some people are worried that totally separate
:02:12. > :02:18.channels will mean families will not what programmes together.
:02:18. > :02:22.is a danger that in some households the adults will send them to watch
:02:22. > :02:27.that and they will watch something else. It can improve family
:02:27. > :02:34.relationships to do that stuff together. Does this mean the end of
:02:34. > :02:38.child-friendly programmes? Families watch CBeebies and CBBC together.
:02:38. > :02:42.There are many programmes that family's watch together on BBC One,
:02:42. > :02:49.entertainment, some of the programmes that get shown on BBC
:02:49. > :02:55.One. That will continue. That is it for Newsround on BBC One but we
:02:55. > :02:59.will see you on CBBC on 2013. Thanks Ricky. Now, 2012 has been a
:02:59. > :03:01.huge year of news both here in the UK and around the world too. From
:03:01. > :03:04.Egypt's first democratic election to Superstorm Sandy's huge impact
:03:04. > :03:07.on the American presidential race, to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee back
:03:07. > :03:13.here - it's been a momentous twelve months. These were the headlines
:03:13. > :03:17.from 2012. Today the United Nations has appealed for more to be done to
:03:17. > :03:19.help the people of Syria. This year has seen lots of fighting in the
:03:19. > :03:25.country between President Assad's government and opposition forces
:03:25. > :03:29.who want him to step down as leader. Many thousands have been killed
:03:29. > :03:33.since the conflict started there. In Egypt, Mohammed Morsi became the
:03:33. > :03:36.country's first democratically- elected leader. Many people hailed
:03:36. > :03:46.it as a new start for the country but some people protested about how
:03:46. > :03:48.
:03:48. > :03:56.he was running things after he came to power. This was one of the big
:03:56. > :04:02.stories, when the Costa Concordia capsized and hit rocks off the
:04:02. > :04:05.Italian coast. It was a year of extreme weather with the wettest
:04:05. > :04:08.summer for 100 years leading to severe flooding across parts of the
:04:08. > :04:10.UK, and in Superstorm Sandy, causing widespread devastation in
:04:10. > :04:14.America. Newsround went to America to follow the US election where
:04:14. > :04:18.Barack Obama won another term as president. People thought it would
:04:18. > :04:21.be a really close race but he won it comfortably in the end. And it
:04:21. > :04:24.was a massive year for the British Royal family with the announcement
:04:24. > :04:29.that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby and The Queen had
:04:29. > :04:33.a series of parties to celebrate 60 years on the throne.
:04:33. > :04:39.So that was the big news of the year, but for most of us 2012 will
:04:39. > :04:43.be remembered as the most incredible year of sport.
:04:43. > :04:53.We had Wiggo winning the Tour de France. An incredible, dramatic end
:04:53. > :05:07.
:05:07. > :05:17.to the Premier League season. And The amazing Bradley Wiggins. Well
:05:17. > :05:33.
:05:33. > :05:43.done, Bradley Wiggins. They are all Jessica Ennis is the Olympic
:05:43. > :05:47.
:05:47. > :05:53.champion. Sergio Aguero! We are coming live from the Olympic Park.
:05:53. > :06:02.The gold medals have been raining in four Paralympics Great Britain.
:06:02. > :06:12.The Olympic sprint champion. Wales have won the Grand Slam. Andy
:06:12. > :06:13.
:06:13. > :06:15.Some unforgettable stuff. Now Newsround wouldn't be Newsround
:06:16. > :06:19.without the more weird and wonderful stories from around the
:06:19. > :06:25.world. We're talking internet video sensations, chart-topping boybands
:06:26. > :06:32.and, yes - animals doing weird This guy here has got the best of
:06:32. > :06:35.To mark James Bond's 50th anniversary, new movie Skyfall
:06:35. > :06:43.smashed box office records to become the most successful UK movie,
:06:43. > :06:47.EVER. And from one skyfall to another as Felix Baumgartner made
:06:47. > :06:52.history by jumping from the edge of space back down to earth, in the
:06:52. > :06:55.highest ever skydive. Sticking with space, NASA successfully sent a
:06:55. > :07:01.robot called Curiosity to Mars to explore the mysteries of the Red
:07:01. > :07:06.Planet. But you'd have had to be IN space to have missed the amazing
:07:06. > :07:09.success of these guys. One Direction broke America with their
:07:09. > :07:12.first album rocketing to the top of the charts both here and in the
:07:12. > :07:16.States. And from pop sensations to internet sensations. Gangnam Style
:07:16. > :07:20.became YouTube's most viewed video of all time. And no year is
:07:20. > :07:27.complete without a cheesy pop video from America. Thank goodness for
:07:27. > :07:34.Nicole Westbrook's Thanksgiving song! In London, a market stall
:07:34. > :07:38.owner found a catchy way of selling fish. Making it easier to watch
:07:38. > :07:46.those videos on the move, 4G launched in the UK. And our
:07:46. > :07:50.favourite story of the year. Well, you can't beat - dogs driving cars.
:07:50. > :07:54.So that is it for the last ever Newsround on BBC One. It's been a
:07:54. > :07:58.privilege to bring you all the best news stories over the past 40 years
:07:58. > :08:03.- but we're not stopping! No, we'll continue over on the CBBC Channel,
:08:03. > :08:12.bigger and better than ever. In fact LG is back right here, just
:08:12. > :08:20.before 7pm. We will have longer bulletins on CBBC in the afternoon
