0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hi, I'm Jenny with your Tuesday afternoon Newsround,

0:00:06 > 0:00:16coming up in the next few minutes: We meet the kids

0:00:17 > 0:00:19going to school on their own and - has this ketchup

0:00:19 > 0:00:23problem been solved?

0:00:23 > 0:00:26First up, do you think you could spot a fake news story?

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Well, thousands of them are being shared online

0:00:28 > 0:00:31and sometimes it's tricky to know if the story is real or not.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37Well, Ricky's set one school a challenge to see if the kids

0:00:37 > 0:00:42there can spot fake news.

0:00:44 > 0:00:48Have you ever been sent a video by your mates and thought,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50"Wow, that's pretty cool?"

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Or you've read story online and thought, that's unreal?

0:00:53 > 0:00:58Well, did you know that it could be fake news?

0:00:58 > 0:01:03And today, we're going to find out how you can spot a fake story.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05We've given this classroom six articles to read.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08But what they don't know is that every story is fake news.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09So, let's begin.

0:01:09 > 0:01:10So, what's the verdict?

0:01:16 > 0:01:20So, what's the verdict?

0:01:20 > 0:01:23I loved the UFO one, because you could see it really

0:01:23 > 0:01:26clearly, and most of the pictures of, like, UFOs and stuff like that,

0:01:26 > 0:01:31you can't really see clearly.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34I would share the baby one.

0:01:34 > 0:01:39The one that I most enjoyed was the baby one.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43When I was a baby, I was quite heavy, so I think I believe this.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Do you think that picture's real?

0:01:45 > 0:01:46Yep.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47Yes.

0:01:47 > 0:01:52I would say the UFO one.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54It's just all the detail, because you don't really see a story

0:01:54 > 0:01:56like that every single day.

0:01:56 > 0:01:57I think it's real.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59I don't think they'd put it in if it wasn't real.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Maybe one or two were not true.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05They just sounded a little bit weird.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09What if I told you that every story here was fake?

0:02:09 > 0:02:12I wouldn't believe that.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14I would be, like...

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Surprised.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18I'm telling you that all of these stories aren't true.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21They're fake news.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22Oh.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Whoa.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27I don't know what to say.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29They look like they were actually on the news.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31So, how do you spot a fake story?

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Well, meet the fact checker.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38OK, so fake news is really hard to spot, right?

0:02:38 > 0:02:41If it's really surprising, so shocking you don't believe it,

0:02:41 > 0:02:45look for the source.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47It's normally there's somewhere to find the information

0:02:47 > 0:02:50where it comes from, and that will help you decide

0:02:50 > 0:02:52whether to believe it or not.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Also, just because it's been shared on the internet,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57on your social media, doesn't mean it's true.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58And if you're not sure, ask an expert.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02Ask your parents, ask a friend who knows more about it than you do,

0:03:02 > 0:03:09and they'll help you out.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13One of the big parts of life at school is the friends

0:03:13 > 0:03:16you study and play with, but for two students living

0:03:16 > 0:03:18in Croatia, school life is very different indeed.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Watch this.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25Meet Emma and Alan.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28They live and go to school in different parts of Croatia,

0:03:28 > 0:03:32but they have one very big thing in common - they are both the only

0:03:32 > 0:03:32student in their school.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35Emma and Alan both live in remote areas away from big cities.

0:03:35 > 0:03:36Sounds pretty lonely, right?

0:03:36 > 0:03:37Wrong.

0:03:37 > 0:03:42They have been writing to each other.

0:03:42 > 0:03:46TRANSLATION: I wrote to her I prefer physical education,

0:03:46 > 0:03:49science and maths and I love to play and look for mushrooms

0:03:49 > 0:03:50in the forest in my spare time.

0:03:50 > 0:03:54They have spoken by by video call in class and their teachers are even

0:03:54 > 0:03:59planning for them to meet up.

0:03:59 > 0:04:03But it sounds like they will not be in this situation for much longer,

0:04:03 > 0:04:06as both of them have more children joining their schools next term.

0:04:06 > 0:04:11Hopefully they will still keep in touch.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14We all know this feeling when you're trying to get the last of that

0:04:14 > 0:04:15ketchup out of the bottle.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19Well, scientists from the US have invented a coating

0:04:19 > 0:04:21for the inside of bottles that allows whatever is

0:04:21 > 0:04:22inside to slip out.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26It could also make getting toothpaste out

0:04:26 > 0:04:27of the tube easier too.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30It's hoped this could reduce the amount of waste.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32That's all from me.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Before I go, though, check out at this picture

0:04:35 > 0:04:38taken in Singapore in Asia.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42It's of a weather event called a fire rainbow.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44It only lasted around 15 minutes and it's thought

0:04:44 > 0:04:47it was caused by sunlight reflecting through ice crystals in the clouds.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50And if you like that then head online to see our

0:04:50 > 0:04:51colourful weather gallery!

0:04:51 > 0:04:53Newsround's back tomorrow morning with Ayshah at 7.40.

0:04:53 > 0:04:59Bye for now.
