0:00:04 > 0:00:06Good morning!

0:00:06 > 0:00:07You're watching Newsround.

0:00:07 > 0:00:08Ricky here with Wednesday's top stories.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Coming up...

0:00:10 > 0:00:16What's in store for tonight's Brit Awards!

0:00:16 > 0:00:23And we've got a sneek peek at the new Doctor Who logo!

0:00:29 > 0:00:31First to the US.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33After 17 people were killed in an attack at a school

0:00:33 > 0:00:36in Florida last week, students there have been making

0:00:36 > 0:00:39a stand against guns.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43BBC reporter Paul Blake has travelled with the pupils who're

0:00:43 > 0:00:50talking to politicians about the changes they want.

0:00:50 > 0:00:55All of the students on board are survivors of a school shooting that

0:00:55 > 0:00:58happened last week in the city of parkland in Florida. Last week's

0:00:58 > 0:01:06attack is the sixth attack by Gunne on a school in the US this year.

0:01:06 > 0:01:11Today, we are going to talk to lawmakers about the ways we can make

0:01:11 > 0:01:15schools safer and waste place controls on guns in our country. I

0:01:15 > 0:01:23do not safe in my school. I was incredibly afraid, I was scared for

0:01:23 > 0:01:30my friends, I was scared for my little sister, I was scared for

0:01:30 > 0:01:33everybody there and they need to know that that should never happen

0:01:33 > 0:01:39to anybody else. Nobody should ever feel how I felt.We want to talk to

0:01:39 > 0:01:45lawmakers say that less people have access to guns and less people get

0:01:45 > 0:01:51hurt.The students are not alone. Many people in the US want reforms

0:01:51 > 0:01:57but at the same time many people want them to remain the same. But

0:01:57 > 0:02:02the students on board the bus today say they think they can convince

0:02:02 > 0:02:05politicians to make the laws tougher and they died eight hours today to

0:02:05 > 0:02:10talk to them about it.I'm so proud of all our friends. We are young,

0:02:10 > 0:02:15not much older than you, but we made a real difference, I think. Many of

0:02:15 > 0:02:18these students have never been involved in politics but they say

0:02:18 > 0:02:21they are really just getting started. Next month, they will go

0:02:21 > 0:02:26all the way to Washington, DC to tell politicians they need to do

0:02:26 > 0:02:29more to keep kids safe.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31It's Brits time tonight, the biggest night in British music.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33While Dua Lipa, Justin Timberlake and Ed Sheeran are warming

0:02:33 > 0:02:36up their vocal chords, Ayshah's been finding out some weird

0:02:36 > 0:02:37and fun facts about the event.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39Five things you might not know about the Brits.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Different categories come and go.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43One year, there was the Best British Comedy Record.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46And in 2013, One Direction got the catchy title of

0:02:46 > 0:02:50Brits Global Success Award.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53That's it, I'm making up my own award.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Best Dancing Newsround Presenter.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Sorry, Ricky.

0:02:58 > 0:03:04The reason why we have the Brits is because of the Queen.

0:03:04 > 0:03:05Seriously.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08It all started back in 1977 to mark her silver jubilee.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10It's now in its 38th year and showcases all of Britain's best

0:03:10 > 0:03:11music talent.

0:03:11 > 0:03:16Thanks, Ma'am.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18The statue.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21It's actually meant to be a female personification of Britain.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24That's a big word.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Basically, it's meant to be a female symbol of the UK which

0:03:27 > 0:03:30is why it's shaped like this.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32A famous British artist designs it every year.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36Most awards are voted for by just 1000 people.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40These guys are really into their music.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43DJs and record labels choose who they think are the best artists

0:03:43 > 0:03:48but this year, two categories are up to you.

0:03:48 > 0:03:49That's the British Artist Video Of The Year and British

0:03:49 > 0:03:52Breakthrough Act.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55And finally, it's a massive social media event.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58In 2016, when One Direction won Best British Band, they broke the

0:03:58 > 0:04:02Internet.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Oops.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07Well, they didn't actually break it but it was the

0:04:07 > 0:04:10most talked about event on twitter that year in the UK.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12I wonder what we'll be talking about this year.

0:04:12 > 0:04:18Hashtag Brits 2018.

0:04:23 > 0:04:28And we will have some of the winners for you tomorrow morning.

0:04:28 > 0:04:29And it's happened again.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32Britain's Elise Christie is out after an epic race.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35You might remember she crashed out in speed skating on the 500

0:04:35 > 0:04:36and 1,500 metre races.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38So what went wrong this time in the 1000?

0:04:38 > 0:04:39Away they go.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41And Christie goes down before they reach the very first

0:04:41 > 0:04:45corner.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48The race was restarted after Elise fell early on.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50Then she had a terrible start, looked like she

0:04:50 > 0:04:53was barged, and nearly fell over twice.

0:04:53 > 0:05:00Just about manages to stay on her feet.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02Through all that, she managed to get second place and

0:05:02 > 0:05:04thought she had a spot in the quarterfinals.

0:05:04 > 0:05:05But then...

0:05:05 > 0:05:07I can't believe that they've awarded her a

0:05:07 > 0:05:09yellow card.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11Disqualified, game over.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13Elise will not go through to the next round.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16She may be out, but she still found time to send a

0:05:16 > 0:05:20message to you.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24I'd just like to say thank you to all the kids that have

0:05:24 > 0:05:27sent me messages, I really appreciate them saying they are

0:05:27 > 0:05:28inspired by me.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31They have no idea how much that means to me.

0:05:31 > 0:05:34It's amazing that five year olds, seven year olds can find me

0:05:34 > 0:05:35inspiring.

0:05:35 > 0:05:42That brings tears to my eyes, you know.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45We can all learn something from defeat.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47Next - Doctor Who.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49We have to wait until October for the new series -

0:05:49 > 0:05:51but here's a little look at the all new logo.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53The BBC released this video yesterday -

0:05:53 > 0:05:54showing off the new look.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56The 11th series features the first female Doctor.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Jodie Whittaker.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01I like the look
