:00:08. > :00:11.Morning, guys - Leah here with all the latest on Newsround this
:00:12. > :00:19.morning, including: The glistening palace made completely out of ice.
:00:20. > :00:24.And sightings of a mysterious beaver everyone thought was extinct. Keep
:00:25. > :00:28.watching. But first, peace talks aimed at
:00:29. > :00:31.bringing an end to the war in Syria will start today. The talks in
:00:32. > :00:34.Switzerland bring the Syrian government face to face with the
:00:35. > :00:37.opposition for the first time. More than 100,000 people have died in the
:00:38. > :00:40.conflict since 2011, which started when rebel groups tried to overthrow
:00:41. > :00:43.the country's president. Leading figures from around the world will
:00:44. > :00:50.oversea the talks, including Britain's Foreign Secretary William
:00:51. > :00:55.Hague. This is the opportunity for Syrian leaders on all sides to bring
:00:56. > :01:01.an end to this bloodshed, to save their country, to put an end to such
:01:02. > :01:02.extraordinary misery, to the worst humanitarian catastrophe of the
:01:03. > :01:06.21st-century. Next, another winter storm has hit
:01:07. > :01:10.the east coast of America. Up to 12 inches of snow has fallen in parts,
:01:11. > :01:13.forcing lots of school to shut and thousands of flights to be
:01:14. > :01:16.cancelled. The snow has covered the streets of New York City and
:01:17. > :01:20.Washington DC is expected to get its heaviest snow fall in three years.
:01:21. > :01:23.This second storm has come just two weeks after the polar vortex brought
:01:24. > :01:27.heavy snow and freezing temperatures to the same area.
:01:28. > :01:30.And you can see some of the most dramatic pictures from that second
:01:31. > :01:35.big freeze over on the Newsround website now.
:01:36. > :01:38.Now, it's a big day for Andy Murray as the British number one takes on
:01:39. > :01:41.Roger Federer in the quarter finals of the one of the biggest tennis
:01:42. > :01:45.tournaments around - the Australian Open. Federer's won more grand slams
:01:46. > :01:48.than any current player, but Murray beat him in the semi-finals of this
:01:49. > :01:51.tournament this time last year. So Ayshah's been looking at who's
:01:52. > :01:55.likely to come out on top. Murray versus Federer is the chance
:01:56. > :01:59.for old rivals to meet again and a chance to see if both men are back
:02:00. > :02:02.to their best. A lot has been written about Murray's recent back
:02:03. > :02:11.surgery, but after four rounds of testing in Melbourne, his coach says
:02:12. > :02:15.he has no excuses. Even if you are really ready and you haven't had any
:02:16. > :02:18.setbacks or injuries to come back from, you still never know what is
:02:19. > :02:23.going to happen. You could still lose the match easily, it doesn't
:02:24. > :02:27.really matter. But Andy had a good run in Miami, so none of that is an
:02:28. > :02:31.issue. Many thought Federer's own back trouble and a disappointing
:02:32. > :02:34.2013 kept him stuck on 17 grand slam wins, but his partnership with
:02:35. > :02:38.Stefan Edberg may be the key to changing that. This match throws up
:02:39. > :02:47.more questions than it answers - no one, not even tennis superstars,
:02:48. > :02:56.knows what's going to happen. If it is warm on this court, I go for
:02:57. > :03:00.Federer. I'm very confident it will be Andy Murray because it is not
:03:01. > :03:03.going to be physical. It is a match he knows he can win. Andy Murray has
:03:04. > :03:06.been saying that he doesn't expect to win the Australian Open, but he's
:03:07. > :03:10.also been saying that expectations can change, and if he can beat Roger
:03:11. > :03:14.Federer for the first time in a grand slam they certainly will.
:03:15. > :03:17.Well, that game is just about to start and the winner will face
:03:18. > :03:20.Rafael Nadal, who won his quarter final match this morning. He beat
:03:21. > :03:23.Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov three sets to one. Earlier, in the women's
:03:24. > :03:25.quarter finals, defending champion Victoria Azarenka was beaten by
:03:26. > :03:28.Agnieszka Radwanska and Sloavkia's Dominika Cibulkova knocked out
:03:29. > :03:34.Simona Halep to make it through to the semi-finals.
:03:35. > :03:37.Sticking with sport, Manchester City completed a 9-0 aggregate thrashing
:03:38. > :03:47.of West Ham to reach their first League Cup final for 38 years. 6-0
:03:48. > :03:50.up from the first leg - two goals from Negredo and another from Sergio
:03:51. > :03:54.Aguero finished off the Hammers at Upton Park.
:03:55. > :03:58.Finally, to the mystery beaver that's been caught on camera tucking
:03:59. > :04:02.into trees. A farmer in Devon set up this night-vision camera to find out
:04:03. > :04:05.what was causing the teeth marks in his the bark. He discovered it was
:04:06. > :04:08.this little fella, but experts are confused, because wild beavers are
:04:09. > :04:14.extremely rare in England after they were hunted to extinction during the
:04:15. > :04:19.12th century. I'd seen something similar before in Canada, but I
:04:20. > :04:24.thought, no, we can't have anything like a beaver here, can we? So we
:04:25. > :04:30.decided to put out a camera on the site where I'd seen them. And to our
:04:31. > :04:33.great surprise, yes, it was a beaver. Couldn't believe it.
:04:34. > :04:37.Fantastic! Last up, just time to show you some
:04:38. > :04:40.pictures of this amazing ice palace in New York. Workers are busy
:04:41. > :04:45.putting the ice blocks in place and it will even have ice thrones in it.
:04:46. > :04:48.It's being built for a big winter carnival that's taken place every
:04:49. > :04:54.year in the village of Saranac in New York State since 1898.
:04:55. > :04:59.That's it from us this morning, but we'll back after school at 4.20pm.
