:00:43. > :00:48.Sula and her parents arrived at hospital for the big day. Her

:00:49. > :00:56.cochlear implants are being turned on, five weeks after she had them

:00:57. > :01:02.put in. It is a big day? How are you feeling? Excited. I am looking

:01:03. > :01:11.forward to hearing what it is like. The right side implant is turned on

:01:12. > :01:20.first and is gradually turned up until Sula cant hear something. That

:02:40. > :02:43.cochlear implant is a device that some deaf people have too helped

:02:44. > :02:48.them here better. One part is worn outside the ear. It picks up sound

:02:49. > :02:54.from a microphone and turns it into electrical signals. Are these

:02:55. > :02:58.suitable for every deaf person? They are not suitable for everyone. For

:02:59. > :03:07.people who are profoundly deaf and not benefiting from hearing aids.

:03:08. > :03:10.Some people are against them? Some people in the deaf community

:03:11. > :03:15.communicate through sign language and they see themselves as part of

:03:16. > :03:19.that community. Their deafness does not need to be fixed and a cochlear

:03:20. > :03:24.implant is something which does six hearing loss. What about if someone

:03:25. > :03:31.is watching and they want to get a cochlear implant. What would be your
