0:00:13 > 0:00:17Good morning, I'm Hayley and welcome to a special Newsound.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Six months ago today, there was a terror attack

0:00:19 > 0:00:25at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

0:00:25 > 0:00:26It shocked the whole country.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Hundreds of people were hurt and 22 people died.

0:00:28 > 0:00:33It affected not only the people who were there,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35but many people who watched the news too.

0:00:35 > 0:00:42Charities like the NSPCC and Victim Support have told me that

0:00:42 > 0:00:45hundreds of children got in touch with them to say there were worried

0:00:45 > 0:00:46or scared afterwards.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49ChildLine helped nearly 300 children in the two weeks after the attack,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51that's four times as many as usual.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55I've been speaking to many children who have told me they were scared

0:00:55 > 0:00:58to go into crowded places or felt worried about going to big cities.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01They also told me how they talked about it, helped each other

0:01:01 > 0:01:10and what they learned about coming to terms with what happened.

0:01:11 > 0:01:16Emily and Lauren are friends. They went to the Ariana Grande concert

0:01:16 > 0:01:19together as it was a Christmas present from their parents.I

0:01:19 > 0:01:22remember it being really nice and everybody was singing and dancing

0:01:22 > 0:01:27and then we all stood up to go and all you heard was this bang and the

0:01:27 > 0:01:30floor started shaking. Then everyone just started like running towards

0:01:30 > 0:01:35us, and it was just a bit scary. Everyone was screaming and running

0:01:35 > 0:01:39down the stairs. How did you feel at the time when it was all happening?

0:01:39 > 0:01:44What emotions were you going through?Every emotion. I was scared

0:01:44 > 0:01:50and did not know what was going on. It makes you really angry that

0:01:50 > 0:01:53somebody would target a concert with such young children there.After

0:01:53 > 0:01:58coming home, the girls tried to get back into normal life but found it

0:01:58 > 0:02:01difficult to escape what would happen. It was quite hard as well

0:02:01 > 0:02:05because there was so much about it on the news.It was everywhere. You

0:02:05 > 0:02:10go onto social media, it's all there, everything about it, people

0:02:10 > 0:02:15putting messaging. Everybody came up wanting to speak about it, so it is

0:02:15 > 0:02:20hard to get past that. Everybody so focused on it at the time. Both

0:02:20 > 0:02:23girls have had help from your school counsellor, who set up a support

0:02:23 > 0:02:27group with they could talk openly about how they were feeling.I went

0:02:27 > 0:02:30and spoke to a teacher because we were upset and had to these lessons

0:02:30 > 0:02:34and the set off up in the school counsellor's office and left us to

0:02:34 > 0:02:37speak to each other. That was probably the best thing to do, to

0:02:37 > 0:02:43let us speak to each other. How did it help?I think just because

0:02:43 > 0:02:56everything they say all makes sense and is really true, and it is just

0:02:56 > 0:02:58nice to know that there are other people going through the same thing

0:02:58 > 0:03:01as you and your not alone. You had each other, did that help?DS.We

0:03:01 > 0:03:04still speak about it now, it is something we will never forget. It

0:03:04 > 0:03:07is nice that we were there together, so you have experienced the same

0:03:07 > 0:03:09thing. There is always somebody to speak to about it.People can help

0:03:09 > 0:03:13you get through it so there is -- you're not alone. You're taking it

0:03:13 > 0:03:18off your chest and it makes you feel a bit lighter about what happened.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22It is not just children at the concert itself who were affected.

0:03:22 > 0:03:26Many all over the country have been affected by the news of what

0:03:26 > 0:03:31happened. At this school in North Wales, they have brought in extra

0:03:31 > 0:03:34support to help those children who were upset and anxious and have set

0:03:34 > 0:03:40up a choir of the people saying Ariana Grande songs and share how

0:03:40 > 0:03:44they are feeling. # I was a liar

0:03:44 > 0:03:48# I gave into the fire # I know I should have fought it

0:03:48 > 0:03:54# At least I am being honest. # I should have done you better

0:03:54 > 0:03:59# And I know, I know, she gives you everything. #

0:03:59 > 0:04:03Even though these children were not at the concert, they have told me

0:04:03 > 0:04:09that they found it difficult to deal with the news of the attack. When I

0:04:09 > 0:04:13heard the news, I kind of oysters to the state of shock that it had

0:04:13 > 0:04:17happened so close to home.Since that has happened, I feel more

0:04:17 > 0:04:22anxious when I go out, especially to big places where there are a lot

0:04:22 > 0:04:26people.I have found my parents had helped me, and relatives and my

0:04:26 > 0:04:33sister. They just comforted me and helped me feel better.I think now

0:04:33 > 0:04:38that it is passed and that people are OK, I think I am more confident

0:04:38 > 0:04:41and have the confidence, because you cannot let things like this take

0:04:41 > 0:04:47over your life forever.Everybody has came closer together as the

0:04:47 > 0:04:55world, rather than being weak about it and letting it get to them.

0:04:55 > 0:05:04# So, one last time # The one who takes you home

0:05:04 > 0:05:10# And, for Emily and Lauren, Ariana Grande herself has played a massive

0:05:10 > 0:05:14part in helping them.I think she is really strong to get through that.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17So many artists, it's something like that happened to you, obviously she

0:05:17 > 0:05:22felt guilty but to come back so strong and good on that concert for

0:05:22 > 0:05:27such a good cause, I think she really helped.Would you go to her

0:05:27 > 0:05:31concert again?I think after the I Love concert, I don't feel scared

0:05:31 > 0:05:37any more.You feel safe now?Yes.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39If you feel worried or upset by what happened in Manchester

0:05:39 > 0:05:42or anything else that you hear about in the news,

0:05:42 > 0:05:43we've got advice on the website.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45There's also more information and links to charities

0:05:45 > 0:05:46which can help you,

0:05:46 > 0:05:48and of course the rest of the day's news.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50That's all from me, but Newsround is back at 4:20.

0:05:50 > 0:05:51Goodbye.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Goodbye.
