0:00:04 > 0:00:05Welcome to your weekend -

0:00:05 > 0:00:11I'm Martin and you're live with Newsround.

0:00:16 > 0:00:20First to the huge snow storm that's reached the east coast of the US

0:00:20 > 0:00:20where forecasters there are predicting it'll bring

0:00:23 > 0:00:26the heaviest snowfall there in 100 years.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29Hurricane winds and blizzards mean a state of emergency has been

0:00:29 > 0:00:31declared across six states, including the capital,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Washington DC.

0:00:33 > 0:00:38People have been advised to stay indoors until the storm passes.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Now if you're having your breakfast you might want to stop for a moment.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45We're talking dog poo and how far a team in London are willing to go

0:00:45 > 0:00:47to stop it being left on our streets.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52Dog poo. It's pretty gross, isn't it?

0:00:52 > 0:00:54You're having a nice stroll in the park when,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55all of a sudden...

0:00:55 > 0:00:57You come across it.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01Don't you just hate it when people don't clear up their dog's mess?

0:01:01 > 0:01:04If only there was a way of finding out who did this.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07I think this might be a job for the DPIU -

0:01:07 > 0:01:10the Dog Poo Investigations Unit.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14SIRENS

0:01:16 > 0:01:19OK, so there's no such thing as a Dog Poo Investigation Unit,

0:01:19 > 0:01:24but one local council in London is getting tough on dog doo-doo.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27Barking and Dagenham Council have launched a scheme to test dog poo

0:01:27 > 0:01:31to try to catch owners who fail to clear up after their pets.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35Park rangers will collect samples of dog mess and send it off to a lab

0:01:35 > 0:01:38for DNA testing.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40The scientists will be comparing the DNA found in the samples

0:01:40 > 0:01:43to the list of registered dogs and then the owner will be tracked

0:01:43 > 0:01:46down and fined.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Getting DNA from dogs involves a simple swab,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52taking just a few seconds, and will also help if the dog

0:01:52 > 0:01:53is ever lost.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57But, at the moment, registering for the scheme is voluntary and some

0:01:57 > 0:02:00people think that not all pet owners will sign up.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04A responsible dog owner would always walk around with a bag and pick up

0:02:04 > 0:02:05whatever is necessary.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08I just think it's a waste of money.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11It's not realistic at all, in all honesty.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12It's not going to work.

0:02:12 > 0:02:20Barking Council say the doggy forensics will help keep the area

0:02:20 > 0:02:23cleaner and mess-free and wants other councils to follow suit.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26So, is this idea barking mad or will it actually stop owners

0:02:26 > 0:02:27and their dogs from leaving this mess behind?

0:02:27 > 0:02:29I tell you what, I'm going home.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32That's enough dog poo for me today.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40The British number one Johanna Konta, has become the first

0:02:40 > 0:02:43British woman since 1987 to make it to the last 16

0:02:43 > 0:02:44of the Australian Open.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Konta thrashed Czech Republic's Denisa

0:02:46 > 0:02:51Allertova 6-2, 6-2 in Melbourne.

0:02:51 > 0:02:51Andy

0:02:51 > 0:02:52Andy Murray

0:02:52 > 0:02:52Andy Murray is

0:02:52 > 0:02:52Andy Murray is playing

0:02:52 > 0:02:52Andy Murray is playing right

0:02:52 > 0:02:58Andy Murray is playing right now.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00That's all from me.
