:00:21. > :00:26.Thanks for tuning in guys. Leah and Ricky here with Thursday's

:00:26. > :00:36.Newsround. We are live with all the top stories. Stick around for all

:00:36. > :00:40.We'll be heading down to the depths of the ocean. The it is so weird

:00:40. > :00:45.being this close to a lion. Hayley's a brave girl. She's on a

:00:45. > :00:49.mission to rescue these lions. first to Somalia. Leaders from

:00:49. > :00:53.around the world have been meeting in London today to try to find a

:00:53. > :00:59.way to end 20 years of trouble in the East African country. It has

:00:59. > :01:02.not had a proper government for 20 years. Civil war and famine have

:01:02. > :01:05.made it a difficult place to live, and children are some of the worst

:01:06. > :01:09.affected. Figures from Unicef show more than one in six children

:01:09. > :01:12.living there die before their fifth birthday and only one in three go

:01:12. > :01:20.to primary school. Now problems in the country are spreading to the

:01:20. > :01:24.Life in Somalia. 20 years ago the Prime Minister was overthrown and

:01:24. > :01:29.since then the country has not had a government. It has led to chaos

:01:29. > :01:33.and violence. The rise of piracy means countries and the rest of the

:01:33. > :01:37.world have been affected as well, as the threat of attack has caused

:01:37. > :01:43.problems for those travelling in waters near the coast of Somalia.

:01:43. > :01:48.Back on land, the Somalian capital of Mogadishu is a city lying in

:01:48. > :01:52.ruins. But the situation has improved. This was Mogadishu in the

:01:52. > :01:55.past. The streets were a battleground with the sound of

:01:55. > :02:00.gunfire echoing around the city. Now the streets are filled with the

:02:00. > :02:03.hustle and bustle of people trying to rebuild their lives. The

:02:03. > :02:08.Islamist militants used to run this part of the city have been driven

:02:08. > :02:12.out and people are once again happy to live here. The BBC's Andrew

:02:12. > :02:17.Harding who is in the capital says that people there are still facing

:02:17. > :02:21.big problems there are makeshift camps all over Mogadishu with

:02:21. > :02:26.families crowded into basic tense. They are reliant on humanitarian

:02:26. > :02:32.aid for survival. Outside the capital, trouble is never far away.

:02:32. > :02:35.Government troops are fighting a group meaning that thousands of

:02:35. > :02:39.Somali inns are leaving their home to avoid that trouble. The people

:02:40. > :02:49.of Somalia and now looking to the rest of the world to help them not

:02:49. > :02:51.just rebuild the country, but their Congrats to divers Tom Daley and

:02:51. > :02:54.Peter Waterfield who've made it through to tonight's final of the

:02:54. > :02:57.diving World Cup. After a shaky start, an impressive last dive in

:02:57. > :03:00.London's Aquatics Centre helped them finish sixth in the qualifying

:03:00. > :03:07.round. It's Tom's first competition since his diving coach warned him

:03:07. > :03:10.to cut down on his TV work he does. Now to a risky rescue. Over the

:03:10. > :03:13.weekend Hayley travelled to France to help save two lions who were

:03:13. > :03:17.treated badly by a circus. Here in Britain we have strict rules about

:03:17. > :03:19.how animals in the circus should be treated, but things are a bit

:03:19. > :03:29.different overseas. As Hayley found out in this special report, moving

:03:29. > :03:30.

:03:30. > :03:33.This is Brutus and this is Clarence. They may look happy, but in the

:03:33. > :03:36.past things have not been that good. That is because they were

:03:36. > :03:39.performing lions that lived in a circus. They had lived there since

:03:39. > :03:42.they were born but it was not a happy time. Local authorities

:03:42. > :03:47.became worried for the animals after they thought they were being

:03:47. > :03:51.treated badly. The circus was asked to give up the Lions or risk losing

:03:51. > :03:56.all of their animals. That is how the boys ended up here. They have

:03:57. > :04:00.been rescued by a sanctuary which has kept them safe and happy for

:04:00. > :04:08.over a year. But they still have scars from the life before they

:04:08. > :04:17.were rescued. When they had arrived what were they like? They were not

:04:17. > :04:22.so beautiful. They were skinny, they had bad skin, they were very

:04:22. > :04:29.scared. They would go to the back of the Enclosure, but now they are

:04:29. > :04:33.very calm. They are good lines. the UK, circuses need a licence to

:04:33. > :04:36.keep wild animals, but in France a licence is not needed. The

:04:36. > :04:40.sanctuary is stretched to the limit and wants to help as many animals

:04:40. > :04:44.as possible but there is just not enough room. But if they find a

:04:44. > :04:47.home for Clarence and Brutus it means that more lines that need

:04:47. > :04:51.help can move in. Luckily a wildlife park in England has

:04:51. > :04:56.offered to take the lion's, so Brutus and Clarence are off to a

:04:56. > :05:01.new start. They have just sedated the Lions, which means putting them

:05:01. > :05:04.to sleep with an injection so they can make a journey. The Lions can

:05:04. > :05:08.be quite dangerous, but it is necessary so they can get to the

:05:08. > :05:15.new home. Now they will sleep, and when they wake up they will be in

:05:15. > :05:25.England. It is so we have been this close to a lion. Even though he is

:05:25. > :05:28.

:05:28. > :05:31.so lated -- sedated, I still feel a That is Brutus and Clarence sagely

:05:32. > :05:36.in their cages and ready proper journey to their new home. The only

:05:36. > :05:42.problem is it is 500 miles that way, but I will be travelling with them,

:05:42. > :05:45.so tune in tomorrow to find out how they get along. Next up, we've sent

:05:45. > :05:48.astronauts up into space but here on earth there are still corners

:05:48. > :05:51.that remain virtually unexplored. One of them is off the coast of

:05:51. > :05:54.Japan in the Pacific Ocean. It's called the Mariana Trench and it's

:05:55. > :05:58.the deepest place on the planet. Now four teams are racing to get to

:05:58. > :06:02.the bottom. I've been finding out more. The Mariana Trench - it's the

:06:02. > :06:09.deepest place on earth. Home to weird sea creatures and, well, the

:06:09. > :06:12.rest is unknown. But not for much longer. So just how big is it? Well,

:06:12. > :06:15.it's seven miles down and it's the deepest point in the ocean. That

:06:15. > :06:20.means you could fit 114 Big Bens down there and it would still feel

:06:20. > :06:25.spacious. So far, only two humans have ever visited the deepest point

:06:25. > :06:28.of the trench, Challenger Deep. That was more than 50 years ago.

:06:28. > :06:37.The dangerous conditions meant they could only stay down for 20 minutes

:06:37. > :06:40.and ever since, people have wanted to return. But now four teams are

:06:40. > :06:43.racing to reach the bottom. Using hi-tech submarines they hope to

:06:43. > :06:46.dive down to the trench's deepest point. It's not an easy task. The

:06:46. > :06:50.subs are made from strong materials to stop them being crushed by the

:06:50. > :07:00.high water pressure. And it's so deep they'll have to pilot their

:07:00. > :07:01.

:07:01. > :07:05.subs in total darkness. We really don't know what is down there, not

:07:05. > :07:08.just that stretch, at their deepest parts of the ocean. 95 % of the

:07:08. > :07:11.ocean remains unexplored. An incredible number. If the teams

:07:11. > :07:17.succeed, they could potentially reveal the secrets of one of the

:07:17. > :07:20.remotest places left on earth. And finally, if you want to take a

:07:20. > :07:23.peak at what's living at the bottom of the ocean but don't fancy

:07:23. > :07:26.getting your feet wet, don't worry. Some very clever folk have come up

:07:26. > :07:29.with the answer. Scientists have been using a special underwater

:07:29. > :07:32.camera to take photos of the Great Barrier Reef. The idea is that

:07:32. > :07:34.they'll have their own version of Google Street View, and they hope

:07:34. > :07:44.the images will help them understand how climate change
