0:00:07 > 0:00:09Hi, I'm Ricky and this is your Friday morning Newsround.
0:00:09 > 0:00:11Keep watching for all this...
0:00:11 > 0:00:16How science makes fireworks go with a bang.
0:00:16 > 0:00:23Plus the coolest ride to the bus stop ever...
0:00:29 > 0:00:33First, some of the world's most endangered animals including
0:00:33 > 0:00:35leopards, wild bore, chimps and golden cats have been
0:00:35 > 0:00:36captured on camera in Nigeria.
0:00:36 > 0:00:44Take a look at these...
0:00:45 > 0:00:49Caught on camera in the remote forests of Nigeria's largest
0:00:49 > 0:01:02national park. Red river hogs. The Golden cat. This is home sue some of
0:01:02 > 0:01:05Africa's most endangered animals. Conservationists are using hidden
0:01:05 > 0:01:10cameras to monitor them. You go through a lot of camera images and
0:01:10 > 0:01:17it can be quite a tedious process. A leaf blowing in the wind and you
0:01:17 > 0:01:22don't see a great deal and then you will get a gem like a Golden cat.
0:01:22 > 0:01:28Perfect shot and you are handling and you were not sure they were on
0:01:28 > 0:01:33site and there it is in detail. Chester zoo researchers are working
0:01:33 > 0:01:38with local park rangers to help protect wildlife. This park is home
0:01:38 > 0:01:44to a rare breed of chimp found only in Nigeria and Cameroon next door.
0:01:44 > 0:01:49With just a few thousand left in the wild, these pictures raise hopes the
0:01:49 > 0:01:51great ape can avoid extinction.
0:01:54 > 0:01:56Over at the Winter Olympics a 15-year-old figure
0:01:56 > 0:01:57skater has won gold.
0:01:57 > 0:01:58Alina Zagitova topped the scoreboard with this performance,
0:01:58 > 0:02:02narrowly beating her Russian team mate to take the top prize.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04It's the first gold won by Olympic Athletes from Russia
0:02:04 > 0:02:07at the games so far.
0:02:08 > 0:02:10Next to curling and Great Britain's women have a massive
0:02:10 > 0:02:12game this morning.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14They knocked out defending champions Canada a couple of days ago,
0:02:14 > 0:02:16and today take on Sweden in the semis.
0:02:16 > 0:02:24If Eve Muirhead and her team can win, they'll go for gold on Sunday!
0:02:28 > 0:02:32We are open to any team. We had a very close game against Sweden in
0:02:32 > 0:02:36the round robin. We defeated them in the European final and we have close
0:02:36 > 0:02:41games when it comes to the play-offs against them.We will go away and
0:02:41 > 0:02:45regroup for the semifinals and come back as strong as we can.Well
0:02:45 > 0:02:47excited about that.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49Dr Tom has the answer to an explosive question ?
0:02:49 > 0:02:50how are fireworks made?
0:02:50 > 0:02:58Dr Tom is an expert, so please do not try this at home.
0:03:03 > 0:03:07Hello, I am Dr Tom, a fireworks expert.
0:03:07 > 0:03:10I am here to answer the big question this week, which is from
0:03:10 > 0:03:14Rees in Cambridgeshire and it is how fireworks made?
0:03:14 > 0:03:18A firework is a lot of different chemical reactions.
0:03:18 > 0:03:26To make colours we add metal salt to the firework mix.
0:03:32 > 0:03:38So strontium salt to get red.
0:03:38 > 0:03:39This to get green.
0:03:39 > 0:03:40Sodium salts to get yellow.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42And to get blue, the most difficult colour
0:03:42 > 0:03:44of the lot, you add copper salt to the mix.
0:03:44 > 0:03:47What you packed into the fireworks to make it effective are
0:03:47 > 0:03:48called stars.
0:03:48 > 0:03:49This is a star.
0:03:49 > 0:03:52This will burn the violet and in the middle it changes
0:03:52 > 0:03:53the composition and burns with silver sparks.
0:03:53 > 0:03:56About the size of a pea and hundreds of
0:03:56 > 0:03:57them are in a firework shell.
0:03:57 > 0:03:59Black powder or gunpowder as some call it
0:03:59 > 0:04:00is one of the key ingredients.
0:04:00 > 0:04:02It has two purposes.
0:04:02 > 0:04:04Sometimes to produce gold sparks of long
0:04:04 > 0:04:05duration flowing down to the
0:04:05 > 0:04:08ground and making it look pretty but more often as a propellant
0:04:08 > 0:04:16to shoot a shell into the sky or to motor a rocket.
0:04:19 > 0:04:20Firework sounds like whistles and screeches are
0:04:20 > 0:04:22made from different types of chemistry.
0:04:22 > 0:04:25We press a tiny band of this composition into the bottom of
0:04:25 > 0:04:29the tube and in the rest of the tube it acts like an organ pipe to
0:04:29 > 0:04:31amplify the sound and make a really loud sound.
0:04:31 > 0:04:33This is a firework mortar.
0:04:33 > 0:04:38It is what is used to fire the fireworks into the air.
0:04:38 > 0:04:40We have hundreds and hundreds of these added
0:04:40 > 0:04:42together and the shell goes in here.
0:04:42 > 0:04:45The bottom part is for the black powder to propel the shell into the
0:04:45 > 0:04:50air and the top part is full of the stars
0:04:50 > 0:04:58making the big burst of colour in the sky.
0:05:03 > 0:05:06Kids at a school in Norfolk have been told they are not allowed
0:05:06 > 0:05:12certain hairstyles. Extreme haircuts like this one are deemed
0:05:12 > 0:05:16unacceptable. The headmaster sent a letter to parents saying students
0:05:16 > 0:05:19not following the rules could be sent home or excluded.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22We want to hear YOUR views on this one.
0:05:22 > 0:05:24Get online and join in with the vote.
0:05:25 > 0:05:28Finally, more news from Pyeongchang, but not from the snow and ice.
0:05:28 > 0:05:32Take a look at how this guy makes his daily journey to the bus stop.
0:05:32 > 0:05:34This is Team GB snowboarder Billy Morgan making his way
0:05:34 > 0:05:36from the Olympic Village to the slopes in pretty
0:05:36 > 0:05:39impressive style.
0:05:39 > 0:05:43Team mate Jamie Nicholls caught him on camera as he pulled tricks
0:05:43 > 0:05:47on his scooter on his way to the athletes bus.
0:05:47 > 0:05:49He goes in the final of the Big Air tomorrow.
0:05:49 > 0:05:54With balance like that he's sure to win gold!
0:05:54 > 0:06:02That's it for now.
