:01:28. > :01:30.The extremist group who call themselves IS have said they carried
:01:31. > :01:31.out the attack in Brussels yesterday.
:01:32. > :01:34.Hayley's been looking into why they are and what is being done
:01:35. > :01:42.to try and keep people safe from them.
:01:43. > :01:45.IS are a group based in the Middle East, mainly
:01:46. > :01:48.They have extreme religious beliefs and use brutal violence
:01:49. > :01:50.against anyone who doesn't agree with their views.
:01:51. > :01:52.They claim to follow the religion of Islam,
:01:53. > :01:54.but many people say their beliefs of hatred
:01:55. > :01:56.and violence have little to do with Islam and what the majority
:01:57. > :02:02.Since early 2014 IS has grown quickly, using the internet
:02:03. > :02:06.and social media to recruit followers and spread fear.
:02:07. > :02:09.They've been able to take over large parts of Syria and neighbouring
:02:10. > :02:12.Iraq, declaring this their own state and punishing anyone who doesn't
:02:13. > :02:18.Lots of different groups are fighting in Syria,
:02:19. > :02:21.and nations around the world can't agree on who they want
:02:22. > :02:27.What does unite most of the world is the desire to stop
:02:28. > :02:31.IS because of how violent their methods are.
:02:32. > :02:35.IS claimed they carried out the attacks in Paris,
:02:36. > :02:37.the capital city of France, last year and also the attacks
:02:38. > :02:44.Last year, the UK joined the US and France in bombing some areas
:02:45. > :02:54.The UK's Prime Minister David Cameron argued, in Parliament,
:02:55. > :02:59.that bombing IS was one way to try and stop them.
:03:00. > :03:04.living in Syria and that the UK shouldn't be involved.
:03:05. > :03:07.Following the attacks on Brussels, there has been extra security put
:03:08. > :03:10.in place across the UK and other parts of Europe,
:03:11. > :03:31.with police forces working together to try and keep people safe.
