:00:49. > :00:52.It's been a day of tributes to the people who have died
:00:53. > :00:55.and been hurt in this attack and to the emergency services who've
:00:56. > :01:02.I've been looking into exactly what happened here yesterday.
:01:03. > :01:09.A minute's silence at the houses of parliament in London, the lights
:01:10. > :01:15.turning off of the Eiffel Tower in France, a flag at half-mast as a
:01:16. > :01:20.sign of respect. Just some of the tributes to the people who lost
:01:21. > :01:28.their lives in an attack on Westminster on Wednesday afternoon.
:01:29. > :01:32.MPs paid tribute to the victims and bravery of the emergency services.
:01:33. > :01:37.We will remember the exceptional livery of our police, and emergency
:01:38. > :01:41.services, who once again ran towards the danger while they encouraged
:01:42. > :01:45.others to go the other way. On the half of the whole country and want
:01:46. > :01:49.to pay tribute to them for the work they have been doing to reassure the
:01:50. > :01:54.public, treat the injured and bring security back to the streets of our
:01:55. > :01:58.capital city. Police say a man drove a car over Westminster Bridge on
:01:59. > :02:02.Wednesday afternoon knocking people over. Many were hurt and some of
:02:03. > :02:10.them have died. He attacked a policeman before being shot and
:02:11. > :02:13.killed by police. The police officer who was attacked sadly died. These
:02:14. > :02:17.are investigating what happened and why. They say the man who carried
:02:18. > :02:22.out the attack was born in Britain and they believe he was influenced
:02:23. > :02:25.by international terrorism. The group that calls itself Islamic
:02:26. > :02:29.State said it carried out the attack, but that hasn't been
:02:30. > :02:32.confirmed. In London, people have been going about their everyday
:02:33. > :02:36.lives, but there are still lots of extra police on the streets of
:02:37. > :02:39.London to make sure people feel safe.
:02:40. > :02:46.So, Ayshah, what is it like in London today?
:02:47. > :02:55.Westminster Bridge has reopened, so things are getting back to normal. I
:02:56. > :03:00.am a Londoner and it feels a little bit louder than it would be with
:03:01. > :03:05.sirens and helicopters, but apart from that it is quite normal. I went
:03:06. > :03:08.to speak to some kids at a school in London about what happened.
:03:09. > :03:11.When I first heard about the attacks, I was quite scared that
:03:12. > :03:13.more would happen and more people would die.
:03:14. > :03:16.My mum was playing the radio and we all went in to have dinner.
:03:17. > :03:19.She told us all to be quiet and we all started listening
:03:20. > :03:24.Like, I have got younger siblings and they didn't understand.
:03:25. > :03:27.I found out as soon as I got out of class and I got my phone
:03:28. > :03:30.because that's when my mum calls me every day.
:03:31. > :03:32.She works in that sort of area and I was glad
:03:33. > :03:36.My two aunties weren't allowed to leave their work
:03:37. > :03:40.So, I was a bit scared, but when they found out
:03:41. > :03:42.that they could leave and I was happy again.
:03:43. > :03:44.I felt really sad for the people who died.
:03:45. > :03:47.I watched the news for a bit, but I wasn't really that bothered
:03:48. > :03:52.When I came to school I bought the newspaper and put it
:03:53. > :03:55.on the table and I was saying to my friends, "So,
:03:56. > :03:59.In our school, it hasn't really affected us that much,
:04:00. > :04:02.so the overall mood was just kind of normal.
:04:03. > :04:05.The mood just seem a bit gloomier, in a way, and sadder
:04:06. > :04:08.because lots of people were affected by - family members or they knew
:04:09. > :04:11.somebody who was around that area who could've got hurt.
:04:12. > :04:14.My mum told me that there was going to be much more police
:04:15. > :04:17.around and it will be much safer around the area.
:04:18. > :04:20.I think I am just going to do my daily life because I just
:04:21. > :04:25.want to get it out of my head so I don't have to worry about it.
:04:26. > :04:27.Talking to people really helps it go down and helps me
:04:28. > :04:48.Those were some children that they spoke to earlier. Joining me now is
:04:49. > :04:53.the MP, Heidi Alexander. You were caught up in things yesterday. You
:04:54. > :04:58.posted on social media earlier about the emergency services. I will do
:04:59. > :05:02.you think they have done? I think they did an incredible job. The
:05:03. > :05:06.policemen and women, all of the security staff in the House of
:05:07. > :05:11.Commons, the doctors and nurses from Saint Thomas Ince hospital responded
:05:12. > :05:15.very quickly. The man who attacked parliament yesterday was not able to
:05:16. > :05:20.get any more than a couple of metres beyond the gate, so they did an
:05:21. > :05:25.incredible job and they do an incredible job every day of every
:05:26. > :05:29.week of every year so we all wanted to say a big thank you to them. You
:05:30. > :05:34.have gone back to work today in Parliament. Why is that important? I
:05:35. > :05:38.think it is important because the man who carried out the attack
:05:39. > :05:43.yesterday wants people to change the way they go about living in their
:05:44. > :05:47.daily lives. Parliament is a really important place, where we make the
:05:48. > :05:52.laws of the country, where MPs can ask the Prime Minister and other
:05:53. > :05:57.government ministers questions about important issues, so it is really
:05:58. > :06:00.important that we carry on, go back to work and do the things that we
:06:01. > :06:08.need to do in order to keep the country running. Thank you, Heidi,
