:00:00. > :00:00.what is happening tonight? Hello, it's Wednesday afternoon. I'm Leah
:00:07. > :00:09.and you are live with Newsround. Coming up: Everest on hold, the
:00:10. > :00:14.world's highest summit is off-limits after an argument rages over safety.
:00:15. > :00:15.And 450 years after his birth in Britain celebrates its best-known
:00:16. > :00:27.writer, William Shakespeare. First, it's the biggest mountain in
:00:28. > :00:30.the world, but no-one can climb it. On Mount Everest in Nepal, a
:00:31. > :00:35.disastrous avalanche last week killed 16 of the local mountain
:00:36. > :00:39.guides, known as Sherpas. It was the worst accident to happen on the
:00:40. > :00:44.mountain in modern times. Now the Sherpas are threatening to go on
:00:45. > :00:47.strike. Martin's got this one. Nepal's Sherpa community is in
:00:48. > :00:50.mourning after 16 of the local mountain guide lost their lives.
:00:51. > :00:53.Friday's accident has heightened tensions between Sherpas, the
:00:54. > :00:58.wealthy climbers from abroad and the Nepalese Government. The Sherpas are
:00:59. > :01:02.now saying they don't want to climb because it is unsafe and out of
:01:03. > :01:06.respect for the dead. British climber Kenton Cool has climbed
:01:07. > :01:15.Everest 11 times and said it would be hard to climb without the
:01:16. > :01:21.Sherpas. Some of them have climbed its 17 and 18 times and they know it
:01:22. > :01:24.intimately. It is hard work and it is very dangerous. They don't get
:01:25. > :01:28.the acknowledgement they deserve. But it is not just over safety.
:01:29. > :01:32.There are issues of money as well. The Sherpas have threatened to go on
:01:33. > :01:37.strike unless they get a bigger share of the money raised from
:01:38. > :01:42.climbers. Do you think the pay is fair? They don't get paid
:01:43. > :01:48.particularly well by our standards, but by Nepalese standard, yes. Is it
:01:49. > :01:51.enough to risk their lives? How do you put monetary value on risking
:01:52. > :01:55.your life? The two sides are trying to find a way forward, but for now
:01:56. > :01:58.there is no-one scaling the world's highest peak.
:01:59. > :02:02.Next, he was the top story teller of his day and many believe he was the
:02:03. > :02:05.greatest writer ever to pick up a quill. 450 years ago today William
:02:06. > :02:09.Shakespeare was born in celebrations have been taking place up and down
:02:10. > :02:13.the country to mark the anniversary. He changed the way we speak and
:02:14. > :02:22.invented thousands of words that we still used today, so why is his work
:02:23. > :02:28.so important? I really like Shakespeare, it is like learning a
:02:29. > :02:34.new language. He makes you laugh and cry and that is important for a
:02:35. > :02:39.writer. I like Romeo and Juliet because it is so romantic at the
:02:40. > :02:43.beginning and at the end it is a tragedy. Sometimes it is hard to
:02:44. > :02:46.understand, but if you really think about it, you can. Shakespeare's
:02:47. > :02:48.hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon has been buzzing today as people
:02:49. > :02:51.celebrate his life and work. Jacqueline Green from the
:02:52. > :02:54.Shakespeare trust is outside his house right now and joins us live.
:02:55. > :03:04.What has been going on today and what is happening tonight? Hello.
:03:05. > :03:09.What a wonderful day we have had. We have had a herald celebrating
:03:10. > :03:13.Shakespeare's birthday on the hour, singing happy birthday to
:03:14. > :03:17.Shakespeare. We have had people dressing up and performing
:03:18. > :03:21.Shakespeare. We have had people at all of the Shakespeare houses around
:03:22. > :03:29.town. Ten night there will be fireworks. Why does his work
:03:30. > :03:35.continued to be so important today? He wrote fantastic stories. And the
:03:36. > :03:39.characters and the issues those characters face are still relevant
:03:40. > :03:44.today. All of us can find a connection to those stories and that
:03:45. > :03:51.is why. Not because he is important, but because he has
:03:52. > :03:55.connections to human beings. It works so well. Thank you very much.
:03:56. > :04:01.Our website is the place to be to find the quiz.
:04:02. > :04:04.Wimbledon champion Andy Murray dropped in on his old school in
:04:05. > :04:10.Dunblane this afternoon. He was awarded with a big honour, the
:04:11. > :04:15.freedom of the city of sterling, and he broke down in tears as he made
:04:16. > :04:26.his speech. I think everybody knows I am extremely proud... Of where I
:04:27. > :04:32.come from. He also spoke to kids from all over
:04:33. > :04:37.Britain on an online chat, so join us just before seven where we will
:04:38. > :04:42.hear from Ricky and some of the kids as well. We will be having a full
:04:43. > :04:47.chat with Andy tomorrow morning at 7am. In the meantime, head over to
:04:48. > :04:53.the website to find out about our top stories. Goodbye.
