:00:28. > :00:31.and now the Commonwealth Games is finally here.

:00:32. > :00:36.The Queen's Baton has travelled 118,000 miles around the world

:00:37. > :00:42.The Queen will open the Games at a huge ceremony at Celtic Park

:00:43. > :00:51.Martin has sent us this report on the history of the Commonwealth

:00:52. > :00:55.The Commonwealth Games take place every four years,

:00:56. > :00:59.with the 2014 event being held right here in Glasgow.

:01:00. > :01:02.This is a massive sporting event but only members of the Commonwealth

:01:03. > :01:10.Many years ago Britain used to control lots of countries as part of

:01:11. > :01:16.Although these countries are now independent they have chosen to

:01:17. > :01:22.It is a group of countries across the world which signs up to

:01:23. > :01:27.a set of values including democracy, law and human rights.

:01:28. > :01:32.During the opening ceremony the Games will be officially opened

:01:33. > :01:36.by the Queen, who is the head of the Commonwealth.

:01:37. > :01:41.6500 athletes from seventy one nations and territories will compete

:01:42. > :02:11.Athletes will be competing in parasports at the same time.

:02:12. > :02:12.Instead of a single team representing

:02:13. > :02:14.Great Britain teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland,

:02:15. > :02:17.the Isle of Man and Jersey and Guernsey each compete separately.

:02:18. > :02:19.Between 23rd July and 3rd August thousands

:02:20. > :02:22.of people will be right here to see some of the best athletes in

:02:23. > :02:27.So now the fans and athletes have arrived in Glasgow

:02:28. > :02:30.and the final preparations are done it's time now to look at some

:02:31. > :02:33.of the key stadiums and the athletes who are hoping for success.

:02:34. > :02:36.The BBC's Sophie Raworth has taken a look around Glasgow

:02:37. > :02:53.and here's what we have in store over the next 11 days.

:02:54. > :03:01.The stage is set and the athletes are ready. Glass can is about to

:03:02. > :03:06.host the 20th Commonwealth Games. It will kick off at Celtic Park, with

:03:07. > :03:12.what promises to be a spectacular opening ceremony in the presence of

:03:13. > :03:18.the Queen. The South stand has been transformed, with a giant screen 100

:03:19. > :03:22.metres long. They are calling it glass a's window on the

:03:23. > :03:32.Commonwealth. Among those competing, plenty of familiar faces,

:03:33. > :03:39.Mo Farah, Tom Daley on the Michael Jamieson and Nicola Adams and

:03:40. > :03:45.Northern Ireland's Paddy Barnes. This is one of glass cope's most

:03:46. > :03:50.impressive venues, Hampden Park, now transformed into a world-class

:03:51. > :03:56.athletic Stadium. To fit a track in they have had to build a platform

:03:57. > :04:03.than most two metres above the pitch, held in place on steel poles.

:04:04. > :04:11.The crowd will definitely be behind Hayley child, who came second in the

:04:12. > :04:14.last Commonwealth Games. There are also high hopes for the visually

:04:15. > :04:30.impaired sprinter Libby Clegg and the Welsh discus thrower Aled

:04:31. > :04:36.Welsh. Glasgow is hoping to host the best Commonwealth Games in history.
