:00:34. > :00:39.When I was born, there were 1 million elephants roaming Africa.

:00:40. > :00:43.By the time my daughter Charlotte was born last year,

:00:44. > :00:49.the numbers of savanna elephants had crashed to just 350,000.

:00:50. > :00:54.At the current pace of illegal poaching, when Charlotte turns 25,

:00:55. > :00:58.the African elephants will be gone from the wild.

:00:59. > :01:02.A six-year-old boy in America has written a letter to President Obama

:01:03. > :01:05.asking him to let a Syrian refugee come and stay with his family.

:01:06. > :01:08.Millions of people have been forced to leave their homes in Syria

:01:09. > :01:11.because of the war that's been going on for more than five years.

:01:53. > :01:55.Well, that's exactly what this man from New York in America does,

:01:56. > :02:03.He has invented a machine for just about everything.

:02:04. > :02:08.Joseph has been making crazy inventions since he was a child.

:02:09. > :02:11.I made my first machine when I was five years old.

:02:12. > :02:13.And it was a machine to store my candy.

:02:14. > :02:18.Obviously, very useful for a five-year-old.

:02:19. > :02:20.But, also, I noticed it made my parents laugh, and that sort

:02:21. > :02:23.of encouraged me to keep making more and more machines.

:02:24. > :02:27.Videos of his wacky inventions have been huge hits online and now

:02:28. > :02:32.His contraptions are usually to help him out

:02:33. > :02:38.Often, I notice when things annoy me in day-to-day life,

:02:39. > :02:42.what can I do to stop that from annoying me?

:02:43. > :02:45.But Joseph doesn't just solve problems with his machines,

:02:46. > :02:49.The machines that I make, they are as playful as possible.

:02:50. > :02:52.And that doesn't make any sense, right?

:02:53. > :02:55.But, at the same time, humans are actually playful creatures.

:02:56. > :03:04.So we are drawn to the idea of a playful machine.

:03:05. > :03:05.From playful machines to playing machines,

:03:06. > :03:08.the UK's biggest gaming event - EGX - has kicked off in Birmingham.

:03:09. > :03:11.Thousands of fans will get the chance to check out

:03:12. > :03:12.all the latest consoles, gadgets and games.

:03:37. > :03:39.people will get to play some of the big upcoming titles

:04:19. > :04:21.and really fun and worth taking a look at as well.
