0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hi, I'm Martin and this is Newsround.
0:00:05 > 0:00:10Coming up in the next few minutes...
0:00:10 > 0:00:12I'm in London where a massive decision has been made
0:00:12 > 0:00:16about how the UK will leave the European Union.
0:00:16 > 0:00:20This year's Oscar nominations are revealed.
0:00:20 > 0:00:30And the miraculous birth of this baby bat.
0:00:32 > 0:00:36First up, there's been a really important decision about how the UK
0:00:36 > 0:00:38will leave a club of countries called the European Union.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40Jenny is live in London for us.
0:00:40 > 0:00:44Jenny, what's been going on there?
0:00:44 > 0:00:48Hello, I'm outside the Supreme Court, the most important
0:00:48 > 0:00:50court in the country.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52This morning, 11 judges who work here made a massive decision
0:00:52 > 0:00:59about something you might have heard mentioned a lot recently - Brexit.
0:00:59 > 0:01:02Today this area has been full of TV cameras,
0:01:02 > 0:01:03journalists and lawyers.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05There have big crowds of people here too.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07That's because this is a topic people feel really strongly about.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10So, what's the decision and why is it so important?
0:01:10 > 0:01:11Watch this.
0:01:11 > 0:01:14Six months ago the UK voted to leave the EU.
0:01:14 > 0:01:18How this will happen has been argued over ever since.
0:01:18 > 0:01:20So the Supreme Court - where the most important
0:01:20 > 0:01:24judges in Britain sit - was asked to make a decision.
0:01:24 > 0:01:27About who decides to tell the European Union
0:01:27 > 0:01:28that the UK is leaving.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31So, Britain is going to tell the EU it's leaving by using
0:01:31 > 0:01:34something called Article 50.
0:01:34 > 0:01:37And the Prime Minister Theresa May thought it should be the UK
0:01:37 > 0:01:41government's decision about when to use it.
0:01:41 > 0:01:45But others thought that Parliament - where MPs make and vote on laws -
0:01:45 > 0:01:46should do it instead.
0:01:46 > 0:01:50And the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish governments also
0:01:50 > 0:01:53thought they should have their say.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56The Supreme Court has now said that it's just the UK Parliament
0:01:56 > 0:01:59which gets to decide about Article 50.
0:01:59 > 0:02:03So now all MPs get to vote on it - they are expected to decide
0:02:03 > 0:02:08that the UK should start saying goodbye to the European Union.
0:02:08 > 0:02:13Theresa May wants that to happen by the end of March.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16And don't forget there's loads more info about what leaving
0:02:16 > 0:02:19the European Union could mean for the UK and how
0:02:19 > 0:02:21it's going to happen.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24You can also have a look at Ricky's explanation of all the words
0:02:24 > 0:02:29and phrases everyone seems to be using!
0:02:29 > 0:02:32Next up, and it's that time again in the world of film -
0:02:32 > 0:02:35Oscar nominations are out and everyone will be hoping
0:02:35 > 0:02:37to win one of these.
0:02:37 > 0:02:41Kubo and the Two Strings is one of the films up
0:02:41 > 0:02:44for Best Animated Feature as well as Moana and Zootropolis.
0:02:44 > 0:02:49The winners will be revealed at a ceremony in February.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52Meet Alice - she's 15 and has trouble seeing,
0:02:52 > 0:02:54but now her life has been transformed by Billy,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57her very own guide dog.
0:02:57 > 0:03:00She's one of the youngest people in the country to be given one.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02Here's their story.
0:03:02 > 0:03:06It's the new term and there's a new face at this high school
0:03:06 > 0:03:09in Nottinghamshire - a very furry one.
0:03:09 > 0:03:14Billy the Labrador is just one of around 50 expert pups helping
0:03:14 > 0:03:17to guide blind children or those who have problems with
0:03:17 > 0:03:19therir sight in England.
0:03:20 > 0:03:25I think it's good because I don't have to constantly have
0:03:25 > 0:03:27people watching me.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29He gives me a bit more freedom.
0:03:29 > 0:03:31In the past, guide dogs weren't paired with children
0:03:31 > 0:03:35as they were thought to be too much of a responsibility
0:03:35 > 0:03:36for a young person.
0:03:36 > 0:03:38But now, the rules have changed.
0:03:38 > 0:03:40The amount of work you have to do with him and the
0:03:40 > 0:03:43responsibility is overwhelming.
0:03:43 > 0:03:49But if you put the work in, you get the results out of it.
0:03:49 > 0:03:52These two have been together since October
0:03:52 > 0:03:54and are getting on just fine.
0:03:54 > 0:03:56Having Billy in school just allows her to gain that
0:03:56 > 0:03:59independence, build resilience, confidence, and go
0:03:59 > 0:04:03through her school life as every other child would.
0:04:03 > 0:04:06The school had to create a quiet area for Billy to rest
0:04:06 > 0:04:08in and somewhere for him to walk.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11And he's been a big hit with the rest of the pupils too.
0:04:11 > 0:04:14He's a bit of a poser.
0:04:14 > 0:04:19They did say the novelty will wear off but everybody still loves him.
0:04:19 > 0:04:23You might have heard of a smart car but this
0:04:23 > 0:04:26is a pretty smart bus, it drives itself!
0:04:26 > 0:04:27It's just been launched in France.
0:04:27 > 0:04:29It will go between two train stations to start.
0:04:29 > 0:04:32It'll carry six people at a time and uses sensors to figure
0:04:32 > 0:04:35out its surroundings.
0:04:35 > 0:04:38Finally, zoo keepers at San Diego Safari Park
0:04:38 > 0:04:41are celebrating the arrival of this baby fruit bat.
0:04:41 > 0:04:44His mother had problems giving birth, and staff needed to perform
0:04:44 > 0:04:47an emergency operation to save him.
0:04:47 > 0:04:52The surgery had never been done on a fruit bat before.
0:04:52 > 0:04:53That's all from me.
