0:00:33 > 0:00:35they were the ones to carry out the attacks.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38We know lots of you have questions about what happened
0:00:38 > 0:00:39in Brussels and why.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41So we asked the BBC's security correspondent Frank Gardner
0:00:41 > 0:00:42to answer them.
0:00:42 > 0:00:46Hi, I'm Frank Gardner.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48My title is BBC security correspondent, which means that
0:00:48 > 0:00:51when bad things happen, I'm afraid, like the big attack in Brussels
0:00:51 > 0:00:54or Paris, I have to report on it for BBC and try to explain it
0:00:54 > 0:00:58to our audience, including you.
0:00:58 > 0:01:03Why did Brussels get attacked?
0:01:03 > 0:01:07Well, Jessica, I think the answer is that there are quite a large
0:01:07 > 0:01:09number of people living in some cities in Belgium,
0:01:09 > 0:01:11especially in Brussels, who don't feel that they are part
0:01:11 > 0:01:13of their country, they feel quite separate from it,
0:01:13 > 0:01:21and they don't like the country they are living in.
0:01:21 > 0:01:23There are only a small minority of people doing this,
0:01:23 > 0:01:26but they decided that he was an opportunity to attack and hit
0:01:26 > 0:01:30back at her country and the government that they don't
0:01:30 > 0:01:33back at her country and a government that they don't like,
0:01:33 > 0:01:34hurting the people from that country.
0:01:34 > 0:01:35Who was involved?
0:01:35 > 0:01:38Well, Haly, the people involved are people who are already,
0:01:38 > 0:01:40criminals in most cases.
0:01:40 > 0:01:44Some of them had gone to Syria - they had learnt how to fire guns
0:01:44 > 0:01:47there, they have come back, and they kept their plans very
0:01:47 > 0:01:49secret.
0:01:49 > 0:01:58Now they have killed a lot of innocent people.
0:01:58 > 0:02:02Is there a chance of them attacking the UK?
0:02:02 > 0:02:04Look, I can understand that all of this stuff,
0:02:04 > 0:02:05it's really scary.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08The chances of any of us being caught up in it,
0:02:08 > 0:02:12personally, are very very small.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14We are one of the most observed countries.
0:02:14 > 0:02:21We are the most observed country in the whole of Europe.
0:02:21 > 0:02:29And that is helping to keep us safe.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31It is far more dangerous for you to cross the
0:02:31 > 0:02:32road without looking.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34The chances of being up in a terrorist attack in Britain
0:02:34 > 0:02:36are very low.
