0:00:45 > 0:00:47They need special permission for this and they have
0:00:47 > 0:00:50to show their local authorities that the puppies in their care
0:00:50 > 0:00:54are treated well.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56But the BBC programme Panorama did some secret filming and found out
0:00:56 > 0:01:00that this isn't always the case.
0:01:00 > 0:01:03This is what's known as a puppy farm - a place where lots
0:01:03 > 0:01:06and lots of puppies are bred for money but the health
0:01:06 > 0:01:09of the animals and the conditions they live in isn't given much
0:01:09 > 0:01:12thought at all.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15Puppy farming is a really big problem because puppies
0:01:15 > 0:01:18and their mums often don't get looked after properly and that can
0:01:18 > 0:01:20mean they are often very scared and they can sometimes
0:01:20 > 0:01:22get really sick.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25That is really sad for the puppies but it can also be very
0:01:25 > 0:01:27upsetting for their new owners.
0:01:27 > 0:01:30If you and your family are thinking about getting a dog,
0:01:30 > 0:01:32you could consider re-homing or if you are thinking
0:01:32 > 0:01:35about buying a puppy, the best thing to do to make
0:01:35 > 0:01:38sure your puppy comes from a good home, is to ask the breeder
0:01:38 > 0:01:41lots of questions and not just get a puppy because it looks cute
0:01:41 > 0:01:43or because you feel sorry for it.
0:01:43 > 0:01:49Make sure they are happy to play with you, they look healthy,
0:01:49 > 0:01:51with bright, clear eyes, shiny fur, and they should be running around
