0:00:01 > 0:00:01See you.

0:00:11 > 0:00:15Good morning, I'm Ricky and you're with Newsround.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18First - demolition is starting today on one of the biggest migrant

0:00:18 > 0:00:20and refugee camps in Europe.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24Many people have been living in the camp while they try

0:00:24 > 0:00:25to travel to the UK.

0:00:25 > 0:00:30So what happens to them now?

0:00:30 > 0:00:35This is the Calais migrant camp, also known as the Jungle.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37For thousands of people, it's somewhere they called

0:00:37 > 0:00:40home, but not any more.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Over the last few years, this makeshift camp,

0:00:43 > 0:00:52made from tents and huts, has been getting bigger.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Conditions inside the camp are poor, and lots of those

0:00:54 > 0:00:56affected are children.

0:00:56 > 0:00:57According to charities, around 10,000 migrants,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00including 1000 children, have settled here.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Many have escaped war and poverty in countries like Syria,

0:01:03 > 0:01:08Afghanistan and parts of Africa.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11Local people in Calais have been campaigning

0:01:11 > 0:01:14for the Jungle to close down, and the French government

0:01:14 > 0:01:17have been criticised.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20The reason thousands of migrants have travelled to Calais

0:01:20 > 0:01:22is because it's close to the UK.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Many believe they would have a better quality-of-life here.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Some try to jump on the back of lorries and hide on board ferries

0:01:28 > 0:01:29heading to England.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33The journey is dangerous and illegal.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Earlier this year, authorities in France announced

0:01:35 > 0:01:38they would close the camp.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42They want to move the remaining migrants to official

0:01:42 > 0:01:45centres all over France, where they say the conditions will

0:01:45 > 0:01:51better, but many of the migrants and refugees don't want to go.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55Around 100 children from the camp, some of whom have family

0:01:55 > 0:01:58in the UK and some who don't, are being bought here

0:01:58 > 0:02:00to start a new life.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03The camps will be completely demolished by the end of this year.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07It's still unclear where all the migrants will go and some groups

0:02:07 > 0:02:10say they're still worried for the welfare of those who risked

0:02:10 > 0:02:13everything to get here.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16If you want to know more about the children

0:02:16 > 0:02:18who are travelling by themselves across Europe, we have a guide

0:02:18 > 0:02:21on Newsround online.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25And if you are upset by this story or by anything in the news,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27there's advice too.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Next to schoolkids trying to build and race the fastest car they can.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Want to know more?

0:02:33 > 0:02:38Here's one of them to explain.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40This is Bloodhound.

0:02:40 > 0:02:49A year from now, it will be attempting to reach 1000 mph,

0:02:49 > 0:02:50breaking the landspeed record, travelling faster than

0:02:50 > 0:02:51the speed of sound.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Today, we're building our very own Bloodhound.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56My name's Alex, and me and my classmates are part of a big

0:02:56 > 0:03:02competition to build the fastest foam car in the UK.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05First, we've got to design our car.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08The aim is to make it as fast as possible.

0:03:08 > 0:03:09Ours won't be as fast as the Bloodhound.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12That's what the teachers hope, anyway.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16I think this is going to be the winning idea.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Once we've added the wheels and wings, all that's

0:03:19 > 0:03:24left to do is name it.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26I think we should call it Steven The Angel.

0:03:26 > 0:03:27I like it.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29We've built our car now.

0:03:29 > 0:03:37I think I fancy our chances.

0:03:37 > 0:03:38Thank you.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40Check that out.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42Everybody, here we go.

0:03:42 > 0:03:47Five, four, three, two, one!

0:03:52 > 0:03:57Big round of applause for Lightning Star, car

0:03:57 > 0:04:00number one, at 47.2.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03Unfortunately we lost and Lightning Star won

0:04:03 > 0:04:06with 47 miles-an-hour, but it's been a great experience

0:04:06 > 0:04:07and I had lots of fun.

0:04:07 > 0:04:08Bye, Newsround.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26Both celebs got the lowest number of votes from the public.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29In the end, the judges decided to let Lesley go.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34other in the sing-off.
