0:00:02 > 0:00:05This is Newsround, you're live with me Ayshah this morning.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07Stick around for some of this.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10These cuties make their debut at a New York zoo and the maker

0:00:10 > 0:00:14of a new dinosaur movie drops in to tell us all about it.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28But first, to a big break through that scientists

0:00:28 > 0:00:28hope one day could wipe out one of the most deadly diseases on earth.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34Experts in the US say they've created a mosquito that is

0:00:34 > 0:00:35unable to carry malaria.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38The disease is passed to humans through bites from mosquitos

0:00:38 > 0:00:40like these.

0:00:40 > 0:00:41It's a huge problem in countries across Asia,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Africa and South America.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Scientists have worked out how to change the insect

0:00:46 > 0:00:48so that it is resistent to malaria and not just that.

0:00:48 > 0:00:53When the insect produces young, the new mosquitoes are malaria free too.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55They hope this plan, if it works in the wild, will

0:00:55 > 0:00:58eventually wipe out the disease.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Next to the girl who is being turned into a comic hero.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03Fed up of not seeing cartoon characters with disabilities,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Emily decided to take action.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Along with ther dad, Dan, they've invented a comic strip

0:01:08 > 0:01:13called The Department of Ability and Ricky went to meet them.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Emily is nine years old.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19She has a condition called spina bifida which makes it

0:01:19 > 0:01:20difficult to move around.

0:01:20 > 0:01:26Like loads of young kids, she loves reading, playing guitar,

0:01:26 > 0:01:30football, and basketball, and when she's not busy doing all

0:01:30 > 0:01:36that, she is also a superhero.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45Dad Dan has turned his daughter into a comic book star and it's

0:01:45 > 0:01:48in this room where the characters come to life.

0:01:54 > 0:01:59There's five characters, and the name of the comic is DOA,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01short for Department of Ability.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03And we've got our own theme tune.

0:02:03 > 0:02:08They're all disabled apart from the creator of them, the person

0:02:08 > 0:02:11who joined them all together.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13So what kind of superpowers does your character have?

0:02:13 > 0:02:19A flying wheelchair, lasers on her wheelchair.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Emily's dad is obsessed with comics.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Some of the characters he's created are based on other

0:02:24 > 0:02:26children with disabilities.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Together they make up Team Strong Bones.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33The Department of Ability came to life when Emily was born, and at

0:02:33 > 0:02:36the time we just started watching television, reading comics, she was

0:02:36 > 0:02:38looking for something she could relate to, ie disabled characters.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42And when we couldn't find any, I set about designing my own group of

0:02:42 > 0:02:45superheroes with disabilities that she could read and actually enjoy.

0:02:45 > 0:02:51Some shows I don't really see people in wheelchairs.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53And how does that make you feel?

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Kind of upset.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57The aim of the comic is to remind young people

0:02:57 > 0:03:00that anyone can be a superhero.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03The charity Strong Bones is publishing the very first issue of

0:03:03 > 0:03:05the comic at the start of next year.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07Go Super Emily!

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Arsenal are fighting to stay in the Champions League. They need a win

0:03:14 > 0:03:18against Dinamo Zagreb to stand any chance of qualifying. But if results

0:03:18 > 0:03:21go Chelsea's way a victory at Maccabi Tel Aviv would send them

0:03:21 > 0:03:25through.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34After more than 15 years working as a writer, an animator and even

0:03:34 > 0:03:36the voice behind the character Squishy in Monsters University,

0:03:36 > 0:03:40Peter Sohn is trying his hand at directing for the very first time.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42The Good Dinosaur is the next Disney Pixar animation to hit

0:03:42 > 0:03:44the big screens this Friday and Martin caught up with him.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51Peter, I've got to be honest, I love animated films.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53What is The Good Dinosaur all about?

0:03:53 > 0:04:00It's about this young dinosaur boy who's like 11 years old.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03He's born in a farm family and he's afraid of everything.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06And so he goes on this journey and he meets this new friend that helps

0:04:06 > 0:04:11him become more brave and stronger, and he learns to survive out there.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14Why is this animation so special for you?

0:04:14 > 0:04:15This is my first time directing a feature.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18I directed a short, but it was only about five minutes

0:04:18 > 0:04:21long, this is 85 minutes long, so it's a whole other game.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23It's the same kind of thing with the storytelling.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25Aren't you the cutest thing?

0:04:25 > 0:04:26What is the process like?

0:04:26 > 0:04:29I can imagine it being pretty difficult.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32What is interesting about animation is that you have to make everything,

0:04:32 > 0:04:37you can't photograph anything, so you have to build everything, really

0:04:37 > 0:04:41design the eyes, so every little thing about the dinosaurs in the

0:04:41 > 0:04:44world has to be made and it takes a long time.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46Get out of your sister's bubble.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50One of my favourite animations of all time is Up.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53You've got a story when it comes to that animation,

0:04:53 > 0:04:54can you tell us about it?

0:04:54 > 0:04:55Yes, absolutely.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59In working that movie, you are sitting around with

0:04:59 > 0:05:02your friends drawing each other.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05One of my friends drew a really kooky drawing of me that kind of

0:05:05 > 0:05:07looks like a thumb with a hat on it.

0:05:07 > 0:05:08Shake.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11Speak. Hi there.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15And they started using that design, that drawing of a thumb as Russell,

0:05:15 > 0:05:21that character in the movie. But they just based the shape of him

0:05:21 > 0:05:26after my face and it was so funny.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32And check out this couple of cuties!

0:05:32 > 0:05:35These red pandas have just made their public debut at a zoo

0:05:35 > 0:05:37in the US.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39The little creatures were born in July in New York,

0:05:39 > 0:05:41but haven't been given names yet.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43Red pandas look similar to raccoons and have a reddish-brown coat

0:05:43 > 0:05:46and a long furry tail, but unlike giant pandas they're not

0:05:46 > 0:05:48members of the bear family.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Everyone was excited to see little guys because they're considered to

0:05:51 > 0:05:52be very vulnerable in the wild.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56That's all from me, Ricky's here at 4.20pm. Bye!
