:00:00. > :00:09.Good afternoon! I'm Jenny and you're watching Newsround live on the CBBC

:00:10. > :00:14.Channel. Coming up in the next six minutes...

:00:15. > :00:19.We check out the Japanese island that keeps on growing.

:00:20. > :00:25.The couple who had a big surprise on holiday. And I am in Canterbury were

:00:26. > :00:37.these girls are making history. First, the Syrian government and

:00:38. > :00:40.main opposition have met in the same room, along with world leaders, at

:00:41. > :00:44.peace talks in Switzerland. The aim of the talks is to try and end

:00:45. > :00:47.Syria's three-year civil war. The two sides sat face-to-face but

:00:48. > :00:50.didn't talk directly to each other in the meeting which lasted half an

:00:51. > :00:54.hour. They're due to meet again later today, where they're expected

:00:55. > :01:14.to talk about how to help the Syrian people affected by the war. Next -

:01:15. > :01:17.more heavy rain is on the way this weekend. And it could cause big

:01:18. > :01:20.problems for areas already affected by the flooding. Things are really

:01:21. > :01:24.bad in Somerset in the west of England. A massive area has been

:01:25. > :01:27.underwater for the past three weeks. In this village, families are having

:01:28. > :01:31.to use boats to get around. The council says it can't deal with it

:01:32. > :01:34.alone, and could call in the military for help.

:01:35. > :01:38.Next up - to the little bit of Japan that's popped up out of the sea, and

:01:39. > :01:42.just keeps growing and growing! When a volcano erupted off the coast of

:01:43. > :01:45.Japan in November it started to form a mini island - and it's still not

:01:46. > :01:47.stopped. Take a look at this. When it started scientists thought

:01:48. > :01:50.it would not last. They thought the tiny island would disappear within

:01:51. > :01:53.weeks. But they were wrong and a month later it was three times

:01:54. > :01:57.bigger. The little island even over to the island next door and it has

:01:58. > :02:08.become so famous people started to think up names. One viewer has

:02:09. > :02:22.called its would-be island. And you can see why. -- Snoopy island. It is

:02:23. > :02:29.now so big, Japan is having to rethink the size of its country. And

:02:30. > :02:32.it is getting bigger. And tennis has a new champion.

:02:33. > :02:35.China's Li Na has won at the Australian Open for the first time.

:02:36. > :02:38.The world number four seed beat Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets

:02:39. > :02:41.in the Women's Singles final. Tomorrow, it's the Men's final,

:02:42. > :02:46.Spain's Rafa Nadal will meet Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland.

:02:47. > :02:49.Next up, one of the Premier League's biggest stars has officially swapped

:02:50. > :02:52.Chelsea for Manchester United for a club record, thought to be ?37

:02:53. > :02:55.million. The Spanish midfielder Juan Mata is thought to be having his

:02:56. > :03:02.medical today, before he officially signs for the team.

:03:03. > :03:04.Next, for the first time in its long history, a girl's choir has been

:03:05. > :03:07.created for Canterbury Cathedral. Girls from the surrounding area

:03:08. > :03:11.auditioned to become members of the new choir and this evening they will

:03:12. > :03:16.give their first performance at a service in the Cathedral. Nel has

:03:17. > :03:19.been to see them in rehearsal. Canterbury has been an important

:03:20. > :03:22.place of worship for the Church of England for more than 1000 years.

:03:23. > :03:31.It's where the head of the church, the archbishop, is based and lots of

:03:32. > :03:34.important services are held here. For hundreds of years the boy's

:03:35. > :03:41.choir has performed at services in the cathedral. Now it's the girl's

:03:42. > :03:45.turn, these 16 girls have been chosen from local schools to form

:03:46. > :03:55.the first ever girl's choir. We have to prove that we are as capable as

:03:56. > :04:02.the boys. I am excited. I am really excited. It is something I will

:04:03. > :04:05.remember for the rest of my life. This is a very important rehearsal

:04:06. > :04:10.ahead of their first performance. We are going to have lots of people

:04:11. > :04:16.coming here to here does. What was it like the first time the girls got

:04:17. > :04:23.together to practice? We'd knew there were some good quality voices

:04:24. > :04:29.and I was bowled over. There were nerves, obviously. But nonetheless

:04:30. > :04:34.they have put 100% into it and have enjoy that.

:04:35. > :04:37.This choir will now perform in the cathedral on a regular basis. It's

:04:38. > :04:40.an important change to the history of this amazing building. It is a

:04:41. > :04:47.landmark occasion in that we are changing the formal singing in the

:04:48. > :04:54.church. Everything about it is wonderful.

:04:55. > :05:00.Now, I might not be an expert, but they're sounding pretty good to me.

:05:01. > :05:03.Next time you're relaxing on your balcony on holiday, don't forget to

:05:04. > :05:06.look behind you. Keep watching, if you can bear it. This Scottish

:05:07. > :05:09.couple staying in America somehow didn't notice the hairy visitor in

:05:10. > :05:16.the background. Luckily the pair - and the bear - were fine after their

:05:17. > :05:19.adventure. And from bear cubs, to lion cubs!

:05:20. > :05:23.These little guys are causing a big stir at San Diego Zoo in America.

:05:24. > :05:26.The six-week-old brother and sister are doing really well, and are

:05:27. > :05:28.growing up super fast, according to staff there. The pair are now

:05:29. > :05:31.concentrating on important lion stuff, like learning to climb and

:05:32. > :05:34.jump. And if you love animal stories,

:05:35. > :05:37.there's a whole page on the Newsround website... Find out about

:05:38. > :05:45.a brand new type of dolphin And check out a mysterious beaver in

:05:46. > :05:48.Devon. But if gaming is more your thing, we've got news of a

:05:49. > :05:51.super-rare Nintendo game. That's all from Newsround for today.

:05:55. > :05:58.website. We've got quizzes, funny clips and games to keep you busy for
