0:00:12 > 0:00:13Hey, guys.
0:00:13 > 0:00:16I'm Naz, and this is Newsround.
0:00:16 > 0:00:20The Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympics has taken place.
0:00:20 > 0:00:22There were lots of fireworks, music and entertainment
0:00:22 > 0:00:27as the athletes celebrated the end of the 2018 Games.
0:00:27 > 0:00:30Team GB came 19th in the medal table - winning five.
0:00:30 > 0:00:38Snowboader Billy Morgan carried the flag.
0:00:39 > 0:00:40Athletes from Russia were not allowed to parade
0:00:40 > 0:00:42under the Russian flag.
0:00:42 > 0:00:44168 of them competed at the Winter Games,
0:00:44 > 0:00:45but under a neutral flag.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47The country was banned from the Olympics because of doping
0:00:47 > 0:00:48at the last Games in Sochi.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51It is thought the Russian Government may have helped athletes take drugs
0:00:51 > 0:00:53to give themselves an unfair advantage in competitions.
0:00:53 > 0:01:01But now the ban could be lifted if there is no more doping.
0:01:01 > 0:01:03On to footy now. In the Premier League,
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Tottenham and Crystal Palace ended 1-0.
0:01:05 > 0:01:06Harry Kane scored in the 89th minute.
0:01:06 > 0:01:09And at Old Trafford, Man United are playing Chelsea.
0:01:09 > 0:01:15United need to win if they want to get back to second in the table.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17And later it's the first big final of the year,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19as Arsenal take on Manchester City at Wembley
0:01:19 > 0:01:21in the League Cup.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24Both teams will hoping to get their hands on their
0:01:24 > 0:01:28first trophy this year.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31Next, Steve Backshall is taking on one of the scariest
0:01:31 > 0:01:32challenges of his life -
0:01:32 > 0:01:35trying to climb a huge mountain in Switzerland.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37The north face of the Eiger is 1,800 metres high
0:01:37 > 0:01:41and very hard to climb.
0:01:41 > 0:01:45So Steve's practicing on another massive Swiss mountain and we've
0:01:45 > 0:01:47just heard how he's got on.
0:01:47 > 0:01:51So, we are over halfway up the Stockhorn.
0:01:51 > 0:01:54I am on the lead.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57Leo is down behind me in the gully somewhere.
0:01:57 > 0:02:02It is absolutely stonking up here.
0:02:02 > 0:02:06We have probably only got, I don't know,
0:02:06 > 0:02:09about an hour's climbing more to go until we reach the summit.
0:02:09 > 0:02:11And about time!
0:02:11 > 0:02:17I could really do with a cup of tea.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19We are on the summit of the Stockhorn.
0:02:19 > 0:02:23The wind is raging up here. And that is our view.
0:02:23 > 0:02:27We are up above the clouds. And I am out of here!
0:02:27 > 0:02:29Well done, Steve!
0:02:29 > 0:02:35And if you want to know more, then head to the CBBC website.
0:02:35 > 0:02:39Next, Dr Tom has the answer to a big question ? how are fireworks made?
0:02:39 > 0:02:47Dr Tom is an expert, so please don't try this at home.
0:02:50 > 0:02:53Hello, I'm Dr Tom.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55I'm a fireworks expert and I'm here to answer this
0:02:55 > 0:02:56week's big question.
0:02:56 > 0:03:03Which is...
0:03:03 > 0:03:06So fireworks are really just lots of different
0:03:06 > 0:03:08chemical reactions going on, so to make colours we add metal
0:03:08 > 0:03:10salts to the basic firework mix.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12So, to get a red we strontium salts.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14To get the green we add barium salts.
0:03:14 > 0:03:16To get yellow, we add sodium salts.
0:03:16 > 0:03:20And to get a blue, which is the most difficult firework colour
0:03:20 > 0:03:23to get, you add copper salts to the basic mix.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25So what you would pack into the fireworks to make
0:03:25 > 0:03:27the effect in the sky are what are called stars.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29And there is a star.
0:03:29 > 0:03:32This happens to be one that will burn violet and then when it
0:03:32 > 0:03:34gets towards the middle, it changes and burns
0:03:34 > 0:03:35with silver sparks.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38It is about the size of a pea and there will be hundreds of those
0:03:38 > 0:03:39within the firework shell.
0:03:39 > 0:03:43Black powder, or gunpowder as some people call it,
0:03:43 > 0:03:46is one of the key ingredients when making fireworks.
0:03:46 > 0:03:49It is there for two properties.
0:03:49 > 0:03:51Sometimes to produce gold sparks of long duration that flow down
0:03:51 > 0:03:59to the ground and make a very pretty visual effect, but more often
0:04:05 > 0:04:07Sometimes to produce gold sparks of long duration that flow down
0:04:07 > 0:04:10to the ground and make a very pretty visual effect, but more often
0:04:10 > 0:04:13as a propellant to shoot the shell into the sky or to be
0:04:13 > 0:04:15the motor of a rocket.
0:04:15 > 0:04:16The firework sounds, like whistles and screeches,
0:04:16 > 0:04:18are made from a different type of chemistry.
0:04:18 > 0:04:22And what we do as we press a little tiny amount of this compound recipe
0:04:22 > 0:04:25into the bottom of the tube and then the rest of the tube acts
0:04:25 > 0:04:28like an organ pipe to amplify the sound and make a really loud
0:04:28 > 0:04:30sound that we here at firework display.
0:04:30 > 0:04:31So this is a firework mortar.
0:04:31 > 0:04:35It is what is used to fire at the fireworks up into the air.
0:04:35 > 0:04:37At a big show, we would have hundreds and hundreds
0:04:37 > 0:04:38of these together.
0:04:38 > 0:04:40Here is the shell that goes in it.
0:04:40 > 0:04:43The bottom part is with a black powder is that's going to propel
0:04:43 > 0:04:47the shell in the air and the top half is the bit that is full
0:04:47 > 0:04:50of the stars that produce that big burst of colour in the sky.
0:04:50 > 0:04:53It's that time of the week again when things get a little strange
0:04:53 > 0:04:54around here.
0:04:54 > 0:04:56Yes, it's time for Strange, Stranger, Strangest.
0:04:56 > 0:04:57First, check out these happy feet.
0:04:57 > 0:05:00Actor David Harper kept his promise of dancing with penguins
0:05:00 > 0:05:01in Antarctica on Valentine's Day.
0:05:01 > 0:05:03The Stranger Things actor has linked up with charity
0:05:03 > 0:05:05Greenpeace to raise awareness of the environmenal challenges
0:05:05 > 0:05:11facing this part of the world.
0:05:11 > 0:05:12Nice moves, David!
0:05:12 > 0:05:17Next, check out this amazing pyramid of dolls.
0:05:17 > 0:05:19It was constructed in Japan to mark the country's annual
0:05:19 > 0:05:22Festival for Daughters.
0:05:22 > 0:05:26There are around 1,800 dolls on the pyramid,
0:05:26 > 0:05:30and people across Japan donated the dolls for the show.
0:05:30 > 0:05:32If you love fashion, and you love animals,
0:05:32 > 0:05:35this story is for you.
0:05:35 > 0:05:39Models at a fashion show for big designer brand Gucci have taken
0:05:39 > 0:05:44to the catwalk carrying some very unusual accessories.
0:05:44 > 0:05:45These realistic-looking animal figures.
0:05:45 > 0:05:49They included a chameleon, a snake, and even a baby dragon,
0:05:49 > 0:05:51and were made by a top visual effects company.
0:05:51 > 0:05:55Try wearing one of those at your next disco!
0:05:55 > 0:05:57That's it from me.
