0:00:29 > 0:00:32It happened yesterday afternoon when two buses

0:00:32 > 0:00:35were travelling across a bridge and the road began sinking.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39The bus driver was able to quickly reverse as the bridge crumbled.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43Nobody was hurt and an investigation has been launched

0:00:43 > 0:00:44into what happened.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Some of the children on the bus described what happened.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Me and my best friend were at the back of the bus.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52We saw a big splash in the river.

0:00:52 > 0:00:56The bus driver didn't see, so we kept on going a quarter

0:00:56 > 0:00:59of the way on the bridge, then the bus driver stopped.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03The other side of the bridge went so he started reversing.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07The bridge collapsed.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09We didn't know whatwas happening and I felt really shocked

0:01:09 > 0:01:14and scared because I thought we were going to die.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16If we were just a couple of seconds earlier.

0:01:16 > 0:01:21Something really bad could have happened.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24First, thousands of children have been affected by the ongoing war

0:01:24 > 0:01:25in Syria in the Middle East.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Many have been forced to leave the country and some have

0:01:28 > 0:01:31even become separated from their families.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Omar is one of many young people who have made

0:01:34 > 0:01:38the dangerous journey on boat, train, bus and foot all the way

0:01:38 > 0:01:41from Syria to Calais in France, where they hope to continue

0:01:41 > 0:01:44on to Britain.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47A large area where lots of these people live in Calais

0:01:47 > 0:01:48is known as the Jungle.

0:01:48 > 0:01:56Omar has told the story of his journey through drawing pictures.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00TRANSLATION: You could see the sunshine rising over the hills.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03I was coming home from my uncle's house.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07All of a sudden there was a jet.

0:02:07 > 0:02:12We had seen many of them.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Even kids as young as two could tell if it was a helicopter

0:02:16 > 0:02:21or another type of jet.

0:02:21 > 0:02:29I could hear explosions all around me and jets as they flew by.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31When they dropped barrel bombs nobody would dare to

0:02:31 > 0:02:36watch where they fell.

0:02:36 > 0:02:42If it were not for the war, I would not have left Syria.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45I got on a boat for the first time.

0:02:45 > 0:02:51We reached the middle of the sea and the engine made a strange noise.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55It broke down.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Everybody was scared.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01But then we saw two dolphins and for a moment

0:03:01 > 0:03:07we forgot about the dinghy.

0:03:07 > 0:03:16It took an hour to fix the engine before we continued our journey.

0:03:16 > 0:03:21I left Syria and took a boat from Turkey to Greece.

0:03:21 > 0:03:31From there, I travelled by boat and train and I walked

0:03:31 > 0:03:33until I reached Calais.

0:03:33 > 0:03:34I have been stuck here in the Calais jungle

0:03:34 > 0:03:37for three and a half months.

0:03:37 > 0:03:44There is no way out unless someone helps you.

0:03:44 > 0:03:49I left Syria to go and live with my family in Britain.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52It has been so long since I saw them.

0:03:52 > 0:03:57I want to live, just like anyone else.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00And to bring you up to date, Omar is still in France living

0:04:00 > 0:04:02in the Calais jungle.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04He's receiving support to try and legally reunite him

0:04:04 > 0:04:07with his family here in the UK.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Omar hopes he'll be in the UK in time to start

0:04:09 > 0:04:11school in September.
