:00:09. > :00:16.this is Newsround, but not as you know it. We are live in Leeds - our

:00:16. > :00:20.home for the next three days. CBBC has taken over Millenium Square.

:00:20. > :00:24.Chris, Katie and Hacker are here, the Wild team are here. The final of

:00:24. > :00:34.Blue Peter: You Decide is coming up at 5.30 and right in the middle of

:00:34. > :00:35.

:00:35. > :00:38.it all, Martin is out there amongst the crowds. Over to you, mate.

:00:38. > :00:41.Thanks, Ore. It's really exciting down here. Hundreds of kids have

:00:41. > :00:45.come to meet their CBBC favourites. But on Newsround we're talking about

:00:45. > :00:49.one thing - the legacy of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic games,

:00:49. > :00:59.and we've got not one, but TWO gold medal winners on the show today. So

:00:59. > :01:00.

:01:00. > :01:03.make sure you stay tuned. It's a seriously awesome atmosphere

:01:03. > :01:09.down here, bringing back memories of this time last year, when the UK

:01:09. > :01:12.hosted the greatest sporting event on earth - London 2012. As Martin

:01:12. > :01:16.said, we're exploring the impact of those glorious games all day today

:01:16. > :01:19.with loads of amazing stuff. And we're kicking off with the results

:01:19. > :01:28.of a special survey Newsround has commissioned to try and find out the

:01:28. > :01:33.effect they had on kids across the country.

:01:33. > :01:40.For 16 days in 2012, the eyes of the world were fixed on London as the

:01:40. > :01:46.greatest athletes battled it out for Olympic gold. The organisers wanted

:01:46. > :01:53.to inspire a generation but one year on, are you still feeling inspired?

:01:53. > :02:01.Over half of you say you play more sport now than before the games. He

:02:01. > :02:05.even put winning a goal that the games ahead of these. Kids found Mo

:02:05. > :02:13.Farah at the most inspirational athlete followed closely by Tom

:02:13. > :02:20.Daley and Jessica Ennis. Mo Farah has given me the faith that if he

:02:20. > :02:26.can do it, anyone can. But is inspiration alone enough? Nearly

:02:26. > :02:31.half the kids surveyed said there was a sports they wanted to take up

:02:31. > :02:35.but couldn't. One reason was a lack of facilities. Like these kids in

:02:35. > :02:41.Yorkshire who loved playing tennis by struggle to find a place to

:02:41. > :02:46.practice. I would like to see more tennis clubs. All in all it seems

:02:46. > :02:49.you were inspired by the Olympics but what about the Paralympics? You

:02:49. > :02:54.guys found them even more inspirational than the Olympics and

:02:54. > :02:57.I will be looking at what that has meant for disabled people in another

:02:57. > :03:07.piece tomorrow. Well, all day today on the website,

:03:07. > :03:33.

:03:33. > :03:37.you've been telling us what effect Now, all this week on Newsround,

:03:37. > :03:41.I've been to chatting to some of my own Olympic heroes. Just some of the

:03:41. > :03:45.golden girls and guys who inspired us last summer. Today's hero was

:03:45. > :03:54.home-grown here in Leeds. A woman who fought her way to the top of the

:03:54. > :04:00.Olympic podium. A golden postbox. They do not make

:04:00. > :04:08.these for regular people, only Olympic champions. The owner of this

:04:08. > :04:14.one grew into a gold medallist right here in Leeds. Nicola Adams is the

:04:15. > :04:23.first Olympic boxing champion. into the Addams family home. I think

:04:23. > :04:29.I can vouch for the fact you have one quite a lot of trophies. Yes. It

:04:29. > :04:33.was absolutely amazing, the people, the fans, the crowd, the atmosphere

:04:33. > :04:40.was unbelievable. What was going through your mind before that final

:04:40. > :04:45.fight for the medal? I was just thinking I can beat this goal, I had

:04:45. > :04:51.beaten her before. Even in the ring when I was competing I could not

:04:51. > :04:57.block out the noise of the crowd and I was just using it to my

:04:57. > :05:02.advantage, helping me to throw more punches and win. Did you realise

:05:03. > :05:08.what you had done at that moment? You had just become the first female

:05:08. > :05:18.boxer to win an Olympic gold ever. At first I was thinking, I just want

:05:18. > :05:19.

:05:19. > :05:25.to win a gold medal. But it took a long time to sink in. 50% more girl

:05:25. > :05:31.boxers. What does that mean to you? That is just an honour in itself.

:05:31. > :05:34.That is a job well done. She was definitely one of the

:05:34. > :05:44.stories of the Games. And down in the middle of Millenium Square,

:05:44. > :05:45.

:05:45. > :05:50.Martin's been joined by another legend of London 2012.

:05:50. > :05:55.Great Britain are flying in here! That is the fastest time we have

:05:55. > :06:01.seen on this Olympic course so far! This could be gold and silver for

:06:01. > :06:06.Great Britain. My goodness! They have a silver medal. They are the

:06:06. > :06:10.Olympic champions. Wow, pretty impressive stuff there.

:06:10. > :06:19.I'm here with one of those amazing gold medal winning canoeists, and

:06:19. > :06:26.one of Ore's Olympic heroes, Etienne Stott. The kids said in our survey

:06:26. > :06:33.that they were really inspired by London 2012. Do you see it working?

:06:34. > :06:39.I think so. My club in Bedford has a lot of people. The Lea Valley water

:06:39. > :06:46.Centre has a massive scheme as well. A lot of children said they

:06:46. > :06:49.struggle to get into sport. It is a real shame. Facilities are different

:06:49. > :06:59.all over the country but hopefully on the Internet they will find

:06:59. > :07:04.something that suits them. How do you get canoeists? It is great fun,

:07:05. > :07:11.and if you join your local club you will get the equipment and learn the

:07:11. > :07:17.skills you need to be safe. Do you think London 2012 the legacy has

:07:17. > :07:23.worked? I hope so. We have a lot of people who are really enthusiastic,

:07:23. > :07:32.it is just a case of giving them the opportunity to enjoy. It may be a

:07:33. > :07:41.good idea to see what the kids here think. Have you been inspired to

:07:41. > :07:49.take up any sports? I have started gymnastics. I started rugby after
